    Pool Testing with Excel

Thank you for the kind feedback on this spreadsheet. Initially the intention was to help visualize some of the trends/patterns with my swimming pool while learning to apply the TFP method, never as an alternative to the Pool Math application. Applying the TFP method to my swimming pool has...

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

Celebrating the beginning of the end for a brutal Houston pollen drop. All told I’d estimate 50-70 gallons worth of pollen debris removed from the pool via skimmers, robot and net skimming. Still looks great with TFP!

Pool guy says they use test strips because heat ruins reagents

My understanding is that test strips can also be degraded if not stored properly.

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

Well it got to 7.8 today, but there was a hit on the TA (moved 80 to 70). I am just going to chill a bit in trying to oversteer the PH until the plaster ages more. 👍 Pick the right battles as they say.

24 hour trial of the sock! 🤦🏻‍♂️These are pretty cool, will continue to use them on the front lines.

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

They included the cost and installation of the decorative tiles in the re-plaster estimate and unfortunately did not break out that cost as an individual line. We used traditional white plaster (like the color and feel) which is relatively "low cost" compared to other pool surfaces.

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

As long as the pool pump is running the spillover is running, would need to be reconfigured to isolate. Good input regarding the PH, probably need to not hit it so hard (which I did tonight unfortunately, wanted to see if I could make it go to 7.6).

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

This remains to be seen.....Check out the PH on PoolMath log.....so I do have a spillover from spa to pool. I added 11 -12 oz last night. At a TA of 80, almost acting like PH bounce. It wants to stay nailed near 7.9-8.0. Obviously new plaster is probably not helping. Going to try and not...

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

Once the heat really settles in and I really understand the daily FC burn I’ll probably switch to the 10ML sampling. 👍

I haven’t tried using skimmer socks. Good suggestion to try during pollen season.

Omg, fired pool guy, thought I had it figured out, then found this site

Welcome to the group! I stumbled on to TFP (by accident) just before remodeling my pool surface in early Jan 2022 and have really enjoyed studying the process. Members are all very helpful and supportive. If you click the link in my bio you will see a couple of quick video shots that show you...

Replaster/remodeling of gunite pool starting today. I have a DE filter. I am doing the brushing and start-up myself.

Looks great! Look forward to hearing about the startup. Brush like crazy once it’s started! My water colors were all over the map for the first couple weeks. Was pretty interesting to see how many different shades of blue green and blue played out from day to day.

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

It appears that we are just starting to touch the phase in the Houston Texas area we refer to as "Green Snow" season, or extreme tree pollen season. I have been running the pool at CYA 30-40 since not long after plaster startup and FC 5.0-5.2. Stepping up to FC 6 and will continue to monitor...

New Pool Build - Drainage Pipe

PVC is always better. Corrugated pipes slow the flow of debris and sediment and generally over time will collapse from the weight of the top soil, depending on quality and depth of the pipe installation. Corrugated piping is cheaper and easier to install. Is it worth losing sleep over? Probably not.

Replaster/remodeling of gunite pool starting today. I have a DE filter. I am doing the brushing and start-up myself.

    1. Add a startup dose of sequestrant (WHAT IS THIS? BRAND and how much). Generally something like Jack's Magic additives (Magenta or Blue), retailer consultant list available at JacksMagic.com. Sold locally in Houston at Texsun pools, etc. 2. Testing Kits Always recommend kits from...

Replaster/remodeling of gunite pool starting today. I have a DE filter. I am doing the brushing and start-up myself.

Couple of items attended to during my replaster that contractors did not really care about: 1. After chip out and acid wash check the pool light housings (did not require replacement during remodel) and make sure housing is completely cleaned out of debris and muck. 2. Cleanout of the main...

Draining pool and starting fresh, help with fresh water chemistry

You need 180 ounces of liquid conditioner to even approach 30ppm, that stuff is worthless. Just my .02. Disclosure, I work for a company that makes a base chemical for cyanuric acid. I don't trust any of the liquid conversion factors that are on those bottles. Granular and sock to achieve the...

    Insane Inflation

I was able to find a fresh batch of liquid (granted, Pool Essentials) at Home Depot that was only a week out of the plant. 4 gallons for $14.98 + tax. The entire pallet sold out in just a matter of days. Like @Newdude mentioned, did check at lowes. All the stock they had in the garden center...

I ended up adding the CSI tables and calculations, LSI, and RSI formulas are working OK, but don't really plan on trying to work chemical calculations like PoolMath. I'm not that dedicated. :) The chart visuals are nice to look at. Like you, probably won't be using it all that long once the...

Stupid Aqualink RS Questions (also RS-485/Aqualink Simulator specialists chime in!)

1 - 2. The presence of a J-Box (with antennae) would generally support that there should be a PDA. Have a look at the inside of the door on your primary control panel to determine the model, provide us a pic if you can. Ask the prior owner if his unit was lost or broken. 3. The PDA functions...
