Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

In my case, I used bath and tub caulk around the joint and after having some of it sucked into the joint and then repatched, it seems to be holding stable after 3-4 days. I'll monitor for a little while longer but for the past few days, the check valves were full right before the pump turned on...

Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

UPDATE: Came home tonight after the pump had been turned off for 2 hours and surprise, the pump basket still had water in it. I think I found my air leak and it was was at the threaded pipe union into the pump. After closer inspection of the caulking job that I did this morning, I found...

Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

UPDATE: Well the problem isn't with the lid. After swapping out lids, I was able to further narrow down the problem. The new lid did give me a "clear" view of what is going on in the pump basket. The "glug-glug" bubbles were not coming from the lid, but from the input port of the pump body...

Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

Did one last experiment before my trip to buy a new pump basket cover. I primed the pump, and filled the system with water, stopped the pump, and then waited as the glug-glug sound drained the pump basket. This time I waited while the water lowered and then once it got a little bit below the...

Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I went ahead and removed the lid, examined it, re-lubed the gasket and put everything back together. Nothing at all is looking damaged in the pump body or lid. After starting up the pump and letting it run for a few minutes, I noticed air bubbles still...

Who likes a good puzzle? (losing prime)

I know the solution may not be difficult for the pros, but I'd like to learn too. I've been chasing this for two weeks a few weeks ago, the pool started losing water. One of the return lines to the pool snapped at the pool wall and I lost a significant amount of water. The water level then...

My inline chlorinator can't keep up (high CYA)

Jason, That's exactly the question I was trying to figure out if that was plausible. "At high CYA levels it is possible for the FC level to be low enough that it can't really kill off the algae, but high enough that the algae never really gets fully going, so the pool does not turn green. The...

My inline chlorinator can't keep up (high CYA)

Thanks Dave for the quick reply. I'm glad that I wasn't too off base with the high CYA and the high chlorine usage. I've previously read in these forums about the ineffectiveness of chlorine with high CYA, but I don't recall seeing or "I didn't put the two together" that high CYA will force...

My inline chlorinator can't keep up (high CYA)

I don't know if it's the sun, the heat or what but my inline rainbow 3" tab chlorinator is turned up all the way (5) and every two to three days my FC is at 2 or below. I've been supplementing the chlorinator with a bottle of Bleach (1.42gal 6%) every 2-3 days just to keep the green algae away...
