    Winter cover patching

Not sure this is appropriate for your issue but we used a product called Plasti-dip that saved our safety cover that the squirrels had chewed on. Ours cover had lots of tears and holes so we bought a couple gallons at about $70 per gallon but it did the trick and should last a few more years...

Using Pillows Does NOT work here!

We use truck inner tubes that were purchased on eBay for about $15 apiece. So far they have stayed inflated for four years.

    Algae Maybe?

OK, many thanks for your help. I'm not convinced there is algae but better safe than sorry. The CYA has only been at 30 ppm for a couple days up from 20 so that may be part of the issue. Regards, Gary R.

    Algae Maybe?

Hi to all; Opened pool a couple weeks ago and it seems like we're using a little more liquid chlorine than usual. FC dropped from 7 to 5.5 ppm overnight and during the day it drops from 6 to 2 ppm. I will probably slam pool up to 12 ppm starting this evening. Water looks clear and blue and no...

    Pool Cover Pump

There wasn't much debris, just a little around the sensors so maybe it was just the fact that the hose was frozen. Also, could have been the freeze sensors coming on. I was under the impression that one could leave the pump out all winter but the manual clearly states it should be brought...

    Pool Cover Pump

Hi to all: Happy New Year!!:p I have a WAYNE WAPC250 1/4 HP Automatic ON/OFF Water Removal Pool Cover Pump which indicates that you can leave the pump on the cover during the winter. There always an inch or so of water on the cover in a low spot where the pump is placed. I have found that if...

Heat Pump or Natural Gas Heater

Hi dkite22; We use a gas heater in May, September and October. We're not far away in KC and it costs about an extra $100 a month in those months. We use the pool daily unless it's in the 50s. Our solar cover keep the temps steady only dropping 2 or 3 degrees overnight depending on temps. We...

    Winterizing my new Raypak Heater

Also, blow out any debris from underneath the heater that might hold or catch water. We cover our filter, pump, lines, and heater with one large tarp but there is lots of air circulating. All lines are filled with anti-freeze. Gary R.

    Pool Closed Green

Many thanks for the info! I'll keep working on them but they have used the pucks, etc. for so many years change is difficult. And, they have a farm store nearby that sells LC for $1.00 a gallon. Regards, Gary R. BTW your pool looks terrific.

    Pool Closed Green

Hi to all; Trying to help someone long distance with their pool. Have tried to convince them about BBB to no avail. Pool has been greenish all summer using pucks, shock and, of course, no quality test kit. Pool is now closed, green, so I suggested they add at least 4-5 gallons of LC to their...

    Heater Rust

Hi Paul; The manual for the pool heater has instructions for removal of the burner tray. It doesn't look too difficult. Will open the by-pass slightly and as you mentioned. Obviously, not enough to lose pressure on the heater side. Also, there's some rusting of the baffles on the topside...

    Heater Rust

Hi Paul; Many thanks for you response! Yes, there is a manual by-pass for the heater. Rust-Oleum does make a high heat paint heat that should do the job. On further inspection found a build up of pine needles under the heater so that may be part of the problem. I assume there is a...

    Heater Rust

Here are some pics: http://s1242.photobucket.com/user/chuckles4524/embed/slideshow/ Not sure if I can paint or perhaps order a new bottom for the heater?? Thanks, Gary R.

    Heater Rust

Yes, inside on the very bottom and I would guess on the outside bottom too. Haven't noticed any sizzling sounds, what would that suggest? Many thanks for the response! Gary R.

    Heater Rust

Hi to all; I have RayPak heater that about three years old and out of warranty. We cover it during the off season but it's exposed to elements April-November. The very bottom is rusting badly but I might be able to clean and paint with Rustoleum. It sits on a concrete slab. Any suggestions...

Keeping pool clean in high debris area

Hi; We use the PoolSkim skimmer and it is very effective at cleaning the debris from the pool surface. Also use a skimmer sock on the main skimmer, it keeps us from cleaning the pump basket constantly. Of course, we use the pool robot almost daily too. Regards, Gary R.

    Timer Override?

Hi to all; I have a T-104R Intermatic timer that I use to control the pump and heater. it works fine except when I use the override switch. Example: After the pump turns on in the morning and run several hours and shuts off normally I turn it back on using the override switch. After an hour...

    Pool Timer

OK, one question about wiring. Currently, the pump and heater are wired on one 220 V.circuit and controlled with a toggle switch. It should be a simple matter to wire the T104 the same way with the pump and heater on terminals 2 & 4. Pump use 7.5 amps and the heater about 1 amp. Any pitfalls...

    Pool Timer

Thanks for the reply! So, just so I'm clear, the trippers mechanically move the On-off switch to either the on or off position as the dial turns. Thank you, Gary R.

    Pool Timer

Getting ready to have Intermatic T104R installed this week to control pump. I assume the On-Off switch on the timer would shut down the pump in the off position. Is there anyway to override the timer function to run the pump beyond where the trippers are positioned? Thanks for any info. Gary R.

    Pool Timer

OK, here's the timer I'm planning on ordering for 220-240V system just to control the pump:: T104R DPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch -208-277 volt - All metal construction. - Heavy-Duty lockable steel enclosure. - Tamper-Proof design eliminates vandalism. - Withstands temperature extremes. -...

    Pool Timer

OK, pool company says I don't need a fireman's switch with the type of heater I have (Ray-Pac Heater 266,000 BTU). They installed the heater. So what is the proper timer for my setup? We have 22V. at the pad. I was going to but an Intermatic T104R201 but maybe some cheaper would work just as...

    Pool Timer

Hi to all; We’re considering adding a timer to our pool system, probably an Intermatic T104R201 to control pump and heater. I've done some minor electrical around the house but am thinking this may be better left to a pro. Is there any kind of step by step guide to installing this unit...

    PH Test Color

Just wanted to follow up on this thread: Purchased a new bottle of r-0014 and it reads just fine. Seems like the older reagents had become concentrated and made the water a very dark orange. Thanks, Gary R.
