    SWG costs

News of the developing dichlor/trichlor shortage due to last year's fire at the Biolab plant found me thankful that I have a salt pool, but I have read a couple of articles quoting pool company owners stating that there are shortages in equipment and salt this spring as well, due largely to the...

    Metal Stain Treatment Procedure

I’ve read several posts here and would like some input on my plan of action... I have a 16.5K gal vinyl lined pool, constructed 13 years ago. Normal opening procedure for the past few seasons has been to throw a floater with some pucks under the cover in late winter to keep pool from turning...

    Clorox Pool Salt

Noted and thanks, but I can’t help thinking that I’ve got enough pool gear and my water bottle didn’t cost $30!

    Clorox Pool Salt

I’ve always used Morton’s, but bought 8 bags of Clorox last weekend. Dumped it Saturday evening, found yellow stains the next day. I immediately suspected trace iron in the salt, and a quick search here confirmed same. I actually called the company that manufactures the salt that is branded...

    Marine/RV antifreeze - shelf life?

I have a few jugs leftover from last year. I stored them in a dark, cool space and it's still pink. Can I use to winterize this season? Thanks!

    Pentair MasterTemp 250 not firing

The display works and is not showing an error code upon startup. It won't start when I increase the heat setting on my MasterTemp or when I turn Manual Heat to on and try to increase the temperature manually on the heater itself. In fact, none of the buttons on the pad - including temperature...

    New Skimdoctor installed

I'm interested to hear how the SkimDoctor would allow you to use less salt in a (presumably) salt pool, or how it could increase the surface tension of the water. Please share.

Top panel blew off IIntelliChlor IC40

Correction, I replaced the cell last June. I've replaced so much Pentair equipment since our pool was built in September 2007 I can't keep it all straight. Pentair has agreed to replace the cell out of warranty!

Top panel blew off IIntelliChlor IC40

Returned home from weekend getaway and when I went to close valve for main drains before vacuuming I saw that the top panel of my IC40 had blown clean off. Noticed a black mark on the inside of the white cover that looked like an electrical burn and another burn on the exposed black membrane...

How can I determine whether my Pentair SAm light is 12V or 120V?

I think the same... Happy Father's Day!

I don't see how you guys do it

Exactly. I try to repay my own deep personal gratitude by offering advice when I can, and hope to help someone break the bonds of bad advice and learn to take control of their water so they can avoid problems season after season, and quickly solve problems when they do arise. Everyone should...

Doing repairs -- How to release water from solar collectors/panels (without wasting)

No advice, except that once you figure out how to do it, be sure to plumb in a dedicated drain line and valve for the future. Good luck and let us know how you solved the problem!

How can I determine whether my Pentair SAm light is 12V or 120V?

I ask because I want a low voltage light in my pool. I probably shouldn't be concerned, since CPSC reported only 13 death from electrocution by pool lights between 1990-2002, and my EasyTouch has GFCI, as does my sub panel and main panel. Not usually paranoid or irrational, until I look at my...

How can I determine whether my Pentair SAm light is 12V or 120V?

Thanks to all! It's 12V. I distinctly recall observing that the cord inside the niche was orange when I replaced the pilot screw a few years ago. When I removed the SAm to expose the niche while slamming the pool to eliminate white mold earlier this week, I saw that it has since faded to a...

How can I determine whether my Pentair SAm light is 12V or 120V?

Pentair's website states that "120V SAms have an integral 12V transformer. All SAms use 12V lamp." Am I correct to assume that this means that supply voltage of 120V is transformed to an actual voltage of 12V at the light itself? Just saw an article about a Florida boy being electrocuted in...

Is it possible to intentionally convert CYA to ammonia?

You're absolutely correct, and I know it's not best practice, although I rationalize it by pouring slowly and not doing it regularly. This is my 7th full season and after working my way through the learning curve in the first season with TFP and poolandspaforum, I shock an average of 2-3...

Is it possible to intentionally convert CYA to ammonia?

Thanks! Quite clear today, only saw a couple small pieces floating below the surface. Vacuumed this morning, and again after kids had friends over. Water was a little cloudy afterward but there were 6 kids in the pool. Hit it with a couple more jugs of bleach via skimmer. Hopefully it's...

Is it possible to intentionally convert CYA to ammonia?

Richard, I'm presently slamming my pool to eliminate white mold. Long story, I had the liner and all white goods replaced about a month ago, then replaced the mesh cover as we were traveling for a couple of weeks and didn't want the pool exposed to neighborhood kids (and a pair of ducks that...

What is spec for replacement o ring for Pentair water temperature sensor?

Successfully re-plumbed the entire pool equipment pad - pump, filter, heater and salt cell, including new unions and adding a bypass loop and valve for the heater - in one sitting, without a single misstep, in less than an hour. Was not expecting that. One problem - a slow, one drop/minute leak...

    Cleaning and Painting Aluminum Coping

Update: I don't know how long the new finish will last - hopefully for a couple of years - but it looks like new. Also good to know the original paint should provide a lasting base for future repaints.

    Cleaning and Painting Aluminum Coping

Thanks carpainterinaz! The original paint survived the power washing. I was hesitant to use duct tape for masking the concrete deck and settled on a multi purpose polyethylene tape by Shurtape. The label recommended it for stucco, which caught my attention. Highly recommended, it will...
