It looks like there is a second hole, but it has a PVC plug in it. It sounds like I'm missing the Skimmer/Main Drain Diverter. I even see what looks like a large rubber gasket that probably helps seal the diverter. How important is it to have a diverter? Is it basically just a back-up in case...
