Pool water backed up through my Stenner feeder and diluted my sodium hypochlorite storage tank.

Thanks. It's an indoor pool. I've looked into CYA before so as to be easier on swim suits and for bather comfort, but never took the plunge. So no concerns about my next shipment of sodium hypo if there's a few gallons of this mix leftover? Stability will be fine until then?

Pool water backed up through my Stenner feeder and diluted my sodium hypochlorite storage tank.

The wheel in the feeder collapsed and pressure from the pumps forced water back through the lines and filled my tank to the brim. There was about 80 gallons of chlorine left, now the 200 gallon tank is completely filled with the diluted mixture. We use 12.5% sodium hypo and no stabilizers. Pool...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

Thank you. I would LOVE to speak over the phone or via email with your source of that information, if your willing to share thru a PM. I've emailed several pool managers in my area but none of them track water usage!

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

Yeah, definitely planning to do a bucket test. The more I compare evaporation calculators I'm noticing some pretty wild variations in the conclusions.

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

Well that throws a wrench in things. :( I just got done speaking with my AFO instructor from a few years back. He suggested that 3/8" evaporation could be normal daily loss on an indoor pool, which would be about 3,151 gallons on a pool my size. He wasn't at all surprised by the 5,000 gallon...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

It appears that our warm water at 84 F, and nighttime room air temperature drop down to 60 F are major contributors to evaporation. Dropping the pool temperature and raising the room temperature could cut those numbers in half. I think...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

Okay, I've put my state college business degree to work and tried my hand at the engineering toolbox formulas. Daytime Water: 84 F Humidity: 50% Air: 76 F Air Velocity: .25 (estimated, no idea) 150 gallons per hour evaporated Nighttime Water: 84 F Humidity: 50% Air: 60 F Air Velocity: .25...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

Water is 84, room is 76, and nighttime air is down to 60. Just heard back from our HVAC guy on those air temp figures. Humidity ranges from 46% to 52%. I am familiar with the bucket test and I'll be doing one the next time we get a couple days where the pool is closed. Yeah, the engineering...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

About .5" per day. I know the gallons is around 5000, and that would calculate out to around .5" although I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

I just assumed that with a pool this size a longer test would improve the accuracy. Pumps would need to be off, but I could do a Sunday test when the building is closed. I'm still interested in any guesses though, for indoor pools in particular. A bucket test in the pool still wouldn't rule...

Anyone have a guess as to "normal" evaporation on an indoor pool?

I manage a full size 50 meter indoor pool, surface area of 1,250 square meters. We keep the water pretty warm(83-85 degrees) and the ventilation system is quite large and efficient at removing humidity. The HVAC guys tell me humidity is maintained at around 47%. I think our water usage is within...

Accuracy of FC test with a rising pH

Excellent. Thank you all for the help. At the moment we only use muriatic acid once every couple months to bring TA back down around 120. Based on the advice here, I think we'll start moving in a direction where we use Co2 and acid together to keep TA and PH a little more stable. I know our...

Accuracy of FC test with a rising pH

FC is high because everything is automated. pH started to rise when the Co2 tanks ran empty, and as a result extra chlorine was added to get the change in ORP the computer shoots for. We usually run FC at 1.5 ppm. We can use CYA as far as I'm aware, I just never considered it for an indoor...

Accuracy of FC test with a rising pH

Thank you! If I'm understanding the charts correctly, I should continue to keep FC in the 4 ppm range to ensure a high enough percentage of active chlorine, right? We should have acid and/or Co2 by Monday. Hopefully that is soon enough. Maybe I could run to Home Depot for some 1 gallon...

Accuracy of FC test with a rising pH

Apparently my boss quit paying the Co2 bills and our tanks ran empty right before a water polo tournament. How accurate are my FC tests going to be as the pH rises? I know the chlorine is less effective, but I want to know how I should interpret the test results. Any other short term concerns...

CH doesn't seem to want to rise

    Haha thanks.

CH doesn't seem to want to rise

I did use The Pool Calculator, quite the handy tool btw. I use the Lamotte Pro 250 test kit with liquid reagents. It's an Olympic pool, measured by vendors and our maintenance guys a few times at 660,000 gallons...give or take 10,000. :)

CH doesn't seem to want to rise

My CH had always tested around 280-300 ppm. About a month back I purchased a new CH test kit that gave a new reading of 220 ppm. I figured it was a good time to add to some calcium, so I bought 300 lbs of the Peladow calcium chloride pellets. I got a 5 gallon bucket and balanced it on the edge...

Rinsing out sodium hypochlorite tank concerns.

Thanks Bama. It's 12.5% hypo. I dug into this project yesterday. Fortunately the pump we used was able to get all but a very small amount out of the tank. I then used a respirator for the initial rinse and will then continue to rinse the tank over the next couple days like you suggested.

Rinsing out sodium hypochlorite tank concerns.

In a few days I will need to clean/rinse out our current 1000 gallon sodium hypochlorite tank. The plan laid out by risk management is cut the tank in half and use the bottom as a backup catch basin for 2 smaller tanks that will sit inside of it. So far the plan is to use a transfer pump to...

Very interesting, I had never heard that before. Exactly the kind of ideas I'm looking for.

New member, looking for thoughts on my pool

I have been managing a large pool for the last year or so. In years past they have had issues with the plaster finish breaking down and flaking off. Quite a bit has changed since then, and the plaster was redone a few years before I took over the job. No problems since then, just thought I'd...
