Using 1 less drop of pH indicator R0004 for the pH test....OK or not?

I'm pretty sure that it was Chemgeek that suggested this - in which case it is safe to say it must totally be OK to test this way.

    Opened pool yesterday

There's really no need to use plumbers tape on the eyeballs (return jets). They should seal pretty well - and if a little water does get through, no biggie.

Easy decision. It's hard to put a value on the ability to have so many experts "on call", ready and able to answer virtually any pool related question - but I do know it's worth more than $100.

    Main Drain Clip-on

I had pretty much the exact same experience with the clip-on thingies. Seemed like a good idea, but they are near impossible to install from the end of a 15 foot pool through 9 feet of water. Once I got two of them on, breaking a third in the process, my Dolphin had no problems pulling them...

Fixing a broken 2"45 degree fitting

Am I the only one amused that the root cause was a root? :D Sorry, Jeff - not amused at your issue. I will add that if it were me I'd go with a plumber over an unknown pool guy. Good luck!

Please help me choose the right valve

Thanks. I'll look into cutters. I saw a YouTube video where the guy used pool-specific PVC cement. Is this needed?

Please help me choose the right valve

Thanks for all of the replies. Sounds like it's a good investment. Any tips on the best way to remove the old and install the new?

Please help me choose the right valve

Are you talking about the valves in my photo? You're exactly right. That's why I need to replace one, and will probably replace all. Jandy NeverLube seems like overkill, but it's not sounding like there are many options in between.

Thanks for the response. What are the NeverLube like equivalents that would be recommended?

Please help me choose the right valve

These are the valves that I currently have for my deck jets: I need to replace one (and will probably replace all of them), but I'm not sure what the best options are. I've seen a lot of recommendations for Jandy NeverLube valves, but I'm not sure if they are over-kill for this purpose...

REVIEW: Dolphin Oasis Z5 from Epic Pool supply

The M5 has a middle roller/brush which prevents it from bottoming out on the drain cover.

    Dolphin app question

Interesting. I downloaded the app (it's free), but you can't get into the app to look at the functions available unless it first links with a Dolphin. Guess it will have to wait until Spring. Thanks for the heads-up, though!

    First Time closing

So just to clarify (and I've seen this asked in a few other threads, but I've not seen any real answers) - do you add antifreeze to your return lines? And if so, how? This year will be my first time closing myself. I have a Cyclone blower. My thought was to blow from the pump. When I blow...

how my pool service closed the pool....

I picked one up on Amazon (actually sold by third party sellers) I had my PB close the pool last year. In previous years they had guys that I knew, and the knew my pool do the work. Seems like last year the PB started to hire out the work to other contractors. The guys who ended up doing the...

Considering DIY IG in Northern Cincinnati, Ohio (Kings Island) area

1.) I have a pair of 80 amp fuses in my main panel for the sub panel. I have two pumps (I'm guessing both are 220 (220, 221, whatever it takes)), a heat pump, SWG and two pool lights. 2.) I don't know anything about the wire. The electrician ran it through my basement, but because it is for...

Considering DIY IG in Northern Cincinnati, Ohio (Kings Island) area

I'm pretty sure it was in the 3K range. I do have a heat pump, but I'm not sure how much that affected the price. He had to run 220 from one side of the house to the other, through my basement. I think this is what cost the most. He's an inspector for Butler County - it was really nice to be...

Considering DIY IG in Northern Cincinnati, Ohio (Kings Island) area

I went with AquaTech to build my pool. They are on Reading/42 just south of Mason. I'm pretty sure that most of the guys that they used to do the heavy work - digging, vermiculite, etc. were contractors. It might be worth calling them and asking if they can refer someone for these services. It...

Don't trust Salt Strip Testers - Use the Taylor drop test

I recently had to drain and refill (had a leak which caused some wrinkles over the winter, had to drain most of the water to get the wrinkles out). I re-added salt according to Pool Math. I tested using strips - one strip from a pack that expired two years ago, and one that was not expired yet...

Oasis Z5 Question - Stuck on bottom grates

Oasis Z5 Question - Stuck on bottom grates

I think that I've seen all of the threads on this issue, but I've not seen any posts discussing main drain covers that are solving the problem. I see one post that refers to a "smart ring" - is this what you're talking about? If not, can you point to those posts? Thanks!
