TFT-100 - Difficulties after reagent refill

Ok, thanks everyone.. By wiping the tip with a damp cloth between drips, I'm finally getting a sensible reading for my TA. Appreciate the help! I suppose luck has granted me a sense of complacency, having never had this happen before!!! Thanks again, Kelly

TFT-100 - Difficulties after reagent refill

Good Evening! I just received a complete replacement set of reagents for my TFT-100 Test Kit and something is wrong... I have used this test kit for 10+ years now, and have never experienced any difficulty. Until now... For both the TA test and the CH test, the reagent bottle that causes the...

    Grand SLAM 2020 Opening

Hi all, long time member and follower of TFP methods here - somewhat infrequent poster... I'm preparing to open our pool in a couple weeks and have a couple questions for the experts - first the background: 1. With the "run" on liquid chlorine products being what it is, I've gone ahead and...

    Multi-port Valve - CLOSED: A Cautionary Tale

Greetings! (Sorry for the length, but this is written to be mildly amusing as well - grab some popcorn!) I write this post, not to embarrass myself - although that's a distinct possibility - but rather to remind folks of what they already know: You never ever ever operate a pump when the...

    Dents in bottom of pool

SDor brings up an excellent point - a dent doesn't necessarily mean a hole will form. In our case it did and may have something to do with pool volleyball activities over 12 years. (those dang rambunctious adults!!! )

    Dents in bottom of pool

I'm not an expert by any means, but I can tell you this: One of the dents in my pool is precisely what led to our expedited liner replacement project this year. One of the dents in my pool developed a tiny leak which we successfully patched: Details in this thread: Potentially Serious Problem...

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. So, with pump off, I decided to apply a bead of silicone sealant around the drain plug and in the tiny crack. My thinking was maybe the sealant would be drawn into the leak. Well, that didn't happen. The leak is still present, but the leak rate has been...

    Spider Gasket Replacement

I used 2 wraps of tape for the redo. I think I can see the leak source. If you look back at the leak photo a few posts up, look at the 11:30 position. There's a tiny crack there about 1/8 inch long. I don't think sealing the threads with silicone sealant would seal that too. At any rate, it...

    Spider Gasket Replacement

So, I just couldn't leave well enough alone. I removed the drain plug, cleaned and lubed the o ring, applied teftlon tape to the threads and reinstalled. The leak is now worse than it was before. I'm thinking replacement of the drain plug is in order? Or, what about a permanent fix like...

    Higher FC than planned

I did open the speed stir, just tonight, I love it!!!

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Yeah, this was my first time and it was a pain in the you know what!!! I just reviewed my photos here and realized I forgot to show the removed gasket. Rather, what was left of it. Here is halfway through, I neglected to take a picture after the whole thing was out.

    Higher FC than planned

I actually did get the speed stir a couple years ago. I'm embarrassed to say I never even opened it. :silent:

    Spider Gasket Replacement

If I do decide to mess with it, can I use the "Closed" setting on the multiport valve to hold the water/DE in the filter? If redoing the plug means loosing my fresh load of DE, I'm definitely waiting.

    Higher FC than planned

Well isn't that interesting... I just did a "reverse salt calculation" and came up with approx 28,000 gallons for my pool. I added 800lbs and I'm at 3400ppm, which implies approximately 28,000. What's strange is that prior to the liner replacement, I'd been using 33,000 in all the PoolMath...

    How do most folks vaccum?

Following the retirement of "Bob," our Polaris 280, we now rely on our trusty Dolphin Premiere, "Darwin," for vacuuming services. He does a great job of maintaining, but takes 3 or 4 cleaning cycles to fully clean our pool. If large debris like leaves, use the bag. If small particles like sand...

    Higher FC than planned

Thanks, Based on added amounts I should be up to about 50-60 CYA, ultimately targeting 75. So yeah, the overnight increase is what trips me up. I guess I'll just keep monitoring and hookup/activate my SWG once I get down to FC5-6.

    Higher FC than planned

So, following our liner replacement project... Liner Replacement Project ...I'm now getting the new fill water all dialed in. First was to get some CYA and Chlorine going. I verified there was zero FC after about 30 minutes of water circulating. I manually added 3 jugs of the Pool Essentials...

    Liner Replacement Project

Yeah, no leaks at startup... But 1.5 hours in, there's a minor leak at the ONE PART I didn't replace or reseal... The multiport drain plug. It's VERY minor and might seal on it's own. We'll see. I have another thread about it in the Equipment forums.

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Ya know, go figure the ONE PART I didn't replace and reseal has a leak! I guess there's some logic to that right? If everything else is sealed so we'll, the water would find the weakest link? Correct thinking, or am I off?

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Yeah, I do close for winter, so maybe I'll just deal with it then. Lol. I also haven't tried the multiport valve on any other setting yet, except filter. I do hope there's no surprises when I do.

Photo of the leak. It takes it nearly 15 minutes to develop a single drop, as seen here.

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Update... 1.5 hours after startup, there is a minor leak coming from the multiport drain plug. I feel like such an idiot, as I hadn't even noticed such a drain plug prior to the project. The leak is very minor and I'm thinking it will seal itself after the system is running for a while...

Autopilot Digital Pool Pilot DIG-220 Garbled Display

Re: Autopilot Digital Pool Pilot DIG-220 Garbled Display - FIXED I thought I'd "tidy up" with the conclusion to my original post. So, I worked with Josh from SaltWaterGuys and we diagnosed my issue as a failing control board (not the power module). Being the entire unit was 12 years old, I...

    Spider Gasket Replacement

Update: Haven't fired the system up yet - water finally got to required level just now, so today when I get home, power on! A follow-up question please: If there is any issue with the spider gasket, how will that manifest itself? Water out the Waste Line? Would I see this while the filter was...

New IG pool build in Fort Worth, TX

Wow that's beautiful so far... My new vinyl liner pool is jealous (edit, I meant new vinyl liner in my 12 year old pool). Lol... Is it possible to convert a liner pool to a plaster pool?!?!

    Liner Replacement Project

Water still wasn't at the required level by 9pm, so had to give up for the evening. [emoji21] Fill started again at 8am, only about 3 inches to go... definitely will be ready when I get home at 4pm. Final photos then hopefully! [emoji16]

    Liner Replacement Project

Yeah, that's what they replaced the old ones with! I like the clean look of them. But we used to use the middle screw to judge water level. Have to get used to a new metric now... In the middle! [emoji23]
