    Water's clear. Don't like what I see.

Had the water checked at the pool store. No iron and only a minor ammount (<.2) on the copper. Should I do a AA treatment and use sequestrant?

Actually, the stairs picture has a reflection in it. I put it up to show the spots above the reflection. Bottom line: it's a mess, but we knew we needed a renovation.

Here's another pic from this morning which is a better display of the issue. I'll be stopping by the pool store for a copper test on my way home today, but is it possible that the pool is a horrible mix of scaling, stained scaling, and copper staining?

I'm not sure. I've only owned it for a couple months and looks like it saw some neglect with recent years. It almost looks like the plaster is wearing away. It seemed to darken and wear away a little more after running the pool robot thing a few times. I'll grab some vitamin c and see if its...

Another pic by the stairs where it's really evident. Check out the sweet white stripe. Totally high end stuff. Can't feel it by touching it though.

Sorry. I took the pics on my phone and had to shoot them over to the laptop. And that's not a reflection. It's ugly looking. I'll see if I can can a couple more after dark that show it even better.

Alright, I've got the water dialed in. Fc 4.0 Cc 0 Ph 7.5 Cya 30 Ta 110 Ch 220-230 The waters now crystal clear and the bottom and sides of the pool (gunite) are extremely mottled and what looks to be scaled. We're planning on a full remodel next year or the year after. However, we also have a...

    Adventures of a Noob

Uh...oh...I'll have to confirm when I get home, but I may have inadvertantly grabbed a bottle or two of Clorox with the no splash additive, Cetyl Betaine. Thankfully, I may have only added a couple bottles of it. Does anyone know if this breaks down over time or how to get it out?

So...the adventure continues. Got home from work yesterday and checked the chemicals (using the right method). FC - 2.5  Ph - 7.1 (7.0-6.9 as of this morning) TA - 90 CYA ~15 (but I know I put enough in to be around 30) Water was clear enough to see the bottom in the deep...

    Adventures of a Noob

Alright...I ended up leaving town for the weekend, but dropped the Ph to 7.5 with muriatic acid, and put enough CYA in a sock in the skimmers to bring it up to 30 before I left. When I got back on Sunday night, the CYA was almost totally disolved, and the Ph was down to 7.2. I also left the...

Thanks for the responses. What should I aim for for the ph? 7.5 or shoot a little lower? My plan will be to lower the ph today, add the CYA tomorrow (to get to 30), and then sneak out of work a little early on Wednesday to shock during the late afternoon into the night.

    Adventures of a Noob

Well...I'm sure this tale's been told on here countless times. We bought a house with a pool. We've never had a pool before. I've taken the cover off and now realize that I have a pit full of green water in the middle of my backyard that I have only the most basic inkling of how to address. Now...
