New Jacuzzi Brand Hot Tub Cover - Sunbrella material?

We have a new Jacuzzi spa with that cover on it. It's great. Beats that vinyl cover any day. Inside is still plastic though. Seems existing cover lift systems will work.

    Electrical Code question

Anything closer than 6 feet to water must be on a GFCI circuit. Pump has water in it so it should be bonded with an external bonding wire also. Any other electrical equipment at pool pump pad area (heater, lights, SWG, etc) that has metal must be bonded also.

    pump throwing breaker

The capacitor starts the motor turning. If it's bad it won't turn the motor. It will just sit there and hum. You'll need to good electrical test meter with a capacitor setting to test the capacitor.

    Pool math with bromine spa

While I can add another pool to Poolmath, it doesn't have a choice for acrylic surface. Also it could run on chlorine, but I'm using bromine. No way to enter those. I think it would be really helpful if we could get Poolmath to have a fully spa centric setup.

    Pool math with bromine spa

So I have been poking around here and it seems Pool math will not work with bromine in a spa. I would like to request an upgrade to Poolmath to allow an additional spa be added to track spas specifically with bromine or chlorine.

    Help remind me...

With your CYA at 70 poolmath recommends 8 - 10ppm FC

I should have said FC. Free chlorine level.

    Chlorine in summer

Yeah I know what you mean. I had a pool service company just adding tabs once a week. The pool was getting algae on the walls. I got a good test kit and found the CYA off the charts. The only way to fix it is to drain the pool.

    Chlorine in summer

Your CYA levels may be way too high. This will make your chlorine ineffective. You'll need to test for your CYA level. I only use liquid chlorine as the tabs will continually increase the CYA levels until you drain the pool to get ride of them.

    Recommended testing kit

You might try Amazon CA. Look for the Taylor K-2006 and/or K-2006C. The difference is the C kit has larger bottles of reagents 2oz versus 3/4 oz.

Pump not turning on, no sound

Motor may have a thermal overload that could be open. There could be a reset button or it may reset when cool or could be stuck open.

    Honey Bees

So I've looking around at the different threads here at TFP. It seems salt may attract bees. Also chlorine is like alcohol to us, it makes them drunk. Maybe borates in the water would kill/poison them. Doesn't seem to be any good positive answers.

    Honey Bees

So this is interesting 🤔 My wife is deathly afraid of bees 🐝. I have heard that if you put salt into the pool that bees don't like the water so much. I put in a couple of bags last year and it seemed to work. I drained my pool a couple of weeks ago and refilled but haven't added any salt. I've...

    Pool math app question

Yes you can. But it will only do one test. You'll have to delete that test to add another. Free version will not log history. Take the plunge and pay for the full version. It's not expensive and you'll get unlimited test logs.

    Idk what to do next...

Pool pumps are better at pushing water. (water between pump and outlet) Not so great at lifting water (from water level to pump). They don't want to move air so much. You might try lifting your vacuum hose higher than your pump and filling it with water. Then cap the end with your hand...

    testing using magnetic stirrer

Thanks. Yes, I can put the vials on it from the Taylor K-2006 test kit. The little 10mm stir sticks fit right in. The Taylor battery type was more and I didn't hear a lot of great comments about it. This one wasn't the best but it is cheap and I could take it apart if needed. I use the Taylor...

Can this be a defective pump?

If you put a hose into the pump filter basket, and it never fills up, then that water is going back into the pool. I see a 3/8" tube connected to the pump input pipe. That could be your leak if it's not sealed on the other end. Also need to make sure that electric Jandy valve is open to one of...

    testing using magnetic stirrer

Just got my Amazon order in. I bough the cheapest magnetic stirrer I could get in a few days or less. It was $28.45. Also got 4 plastic 50ml beakers at $7.48 and some small magnetic stirrer stick at $5.99. A round $44 total. I can't swirl for nothing, so this setup is awesome!

Can this be a defective pump?

My pump skimmer basket lid was cracked between the lid and the threads. Didn't see it until I turned the pump off and it sprayed water on me. You can also pour water over your valves and fittings, while the pump is running, on the suction side, to see if there is a leak.

    Idk what to do next...

I don't think a shopvac will have enough power to pick up water up and over the pool wall. They are not made for that. More like sucking up puddles off the floor.

New user. water test looks good.

Second post. Discontinued my pool company as my pool was turning green. Bought a Taylor K-2006 test kit and found Pool Math to log all of my testing. Found out my CYA was way out the window and drained the pool completely. Now with pool full and using the TFP method, things are looking great.

    Pool math "ideal range"

Hi All, new member here. We got tired of our pool service company and decided to do the maintenance ourselves. So I bought a Taylor C2006 FAS-DPD test kit. I wanted to be able to log all my testing so I can keep track of how the pool is doing. That is how I found Pool Math and TFP. So I have...
