Want to install overflow outlet. What concerns??

With all the rain this Spring, a few times I had to pump out water. Water was actually overflowing through my skimmer and landing right next to pool base. Not looking to eat out area around base of pool. Overflow fitting which would lead water away from pool, and not having to pump out pool...

Want to install overflow outlet. What concerns??

Actually thought of drilling a hole in the skimmer. There is actually a flat spot where I could get a 1" hole. That would probably be the best plan.

awtrizzle, Also look at restaurant supply stores. Sometimes there are incredibly good deals on cases of bleach. Albeit lower % chlorine, but very cost effective. deweypip

    Hose keeps popping off

Definitely double clamp. I came home to find one of my hoses came off---not fun to put 4-5 inches of water back into your pool from a 525' deep well. Learn from me. Double clamp, check periodically, or hardpipe. Good luck

    Pump problem ???

Just a heads up to others who might have same type of issue. First off---bought a new pump, and swapped out for the one having issues. After taking the pump apart, I could turn the impeller, and nothing seemed to be in there that could bind up the impeller when running. So I took it to the...

    Pump problem ???

Went out this morning and turned on the rocker switch--boom, pump turns on like it never had a problem. I left it run as I left for work. Came home from work, and no pump. Hit the switch on my timer and pump make humming noise as it's locked up. Several on/off atempts and no change. I...

    Pump problem ???

Found my hayward 1 hp powermax which had been running flawlessly not pushing water. Thought the timer must have shut it down, but I know it runs this time of day. Put the pump back on, and nothing but a buzzing/humming sound, and not pushing water. Turned on/off several times with the same...

Any good way to make sure algea isn't in you pool steps ???

It is hard. Our steps have one little pin hole for a drain. I considered drilling out more holes to allow water out easily, and/or for them to dry over winter. More holes = less stregth though. The thought of a nursery bed for algea isn't one I'm crazy about. I'll have to do a combo of what...

Any good way to make sure algea isn't in you pool steps ???

Took our steps out at the end of last season, and like other seasons I could hear water inside the step and/or rail sections. I put steps in our cellar over winter, but I always thought algea either is in the steps, or can grow inside the steps. How to prevent this, or sanatize the steps? Can...

When is a good time to open the pool in Pennsylvania?

Central Pa here too, between Harrisburg and Philly as well. Openned our pool last evening. Couldn't believe how in balance the water was, except for the chlorine. Simply amazing. A little ph adjustment, and shocked the heck out of it. It had a small very, very faint green color on the...

above ground pool witch brand is better

I like our sharkline. I didn't install it, and we got the best price on line. It was shipped right to the door, and installers didn't complain, so must have been an ok build for them. Couple years later, still looks great.

    Tis the season

No Woody--no pump connected yet. This past weekend we got some rain. With the warming temps thought I'd start letting pool fill naturally. It was a gamble, now wondering if I should have waited another week or two before closing off valve.

    Tis the season

In south central pa here. I've gone no cover for two years. So I can see the huge ice cube floating in the pool. Have clear water about 4 inches all around the pool. Looks like we dip into the mid-high 20's this week. As a side note--any help appreciated. I shut my drain valve to start...

What is the "best" base for an AGP (plus other advice)?

Re: What is the "best" base for an AGP (plus other advice)? We had a mix of i think, vermiculte and portland cement mix put down. Makes a solid base, with much reduced chance of a stone pushing up threw.

Problems with pool cover (above ground)...1st winter

We have a 24x54 sharkline. We live in one of the windiest places around. We can't keep a cover on it. Two years ago we went thru 3 covers. After that i went to NO cover, and it's worked out pretty well, but we have no trees around--so not a big deal with debris getting into pool/ You're...

    Other options to wood/composite deck?

cmbx2mom, We have the same dimension pool, 24'x54". I built a 24'x 14' deck with wooden steps leading up to deck. I did all the work myself,(well-had a couple helping hands here and there). I'd say I was somewhere around 4-4.5 g's to do it all. Concrete, pressure treated posts, dimensional...

    This weather stinks

South Central PA here. We managed to get in the pool 3x in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Rain and cool nightly temps are killing the beginning of the season here, like others are mentioning. Unlike western pa I haven't had to drain water, but it's come very close. Last evening I put my arm in while...

Filling Confer steps with water instead of sand?

gtnos, Do your steps lay flat on the bottom of your pool? I have the same steps. Had same issue with holing them dowm. Filled sides with sand through a small funnel--time consuming to say the least, but that still wasn't enough. Made a 3 in pvc pipe filled with river rock, the width of the...

    Help opening with algae

Looks like I got my algea problem licked. Made all my adjustments to the water, and then chlorinated with liquid bleach, and kept chlorine levels up. Just circulated the water for several days, then added the filter. After 2 1/2-3 days had crystal clear water. Had to change my DE out 2X. I...

Looking to get a handle on my green pool as stated in other post in this forum. Will I compromise my pump with...
