    High TVC on microbial test

Yeah I guess I hadn’t taken that into account. With the other tub we empty every 3 days so the CUa never builds up. Will keep a closer eye.

    High TVC on microbial test

Ah I wasn’t aware of that. We rinsed it but didn’t purge it properly Can you get Ahhsome in the UK? Or an alternative?

    High TVC on microbial test

So alongside our holiday let hot tub we got our own recently. We can obviously run this for longer, not having to empty it every 3 days or so. So far so good I thought. Water has been in about 4 weeks so far, and have maintained Chlorine and pH correctly. (I aim for about 3ppm. It’s dropped...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Hi all Thanks for your help so far. Really got into the swing of things now after 3 months of testing and adjusting. My general routing is now: On fill, 50g Bicarb, 10g Dichlor. That keeps the water at about 60 TA, 4.5 FCl and 7.3-7.4 pH. I then add 2x Trichlor floaters to keep the Cl...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

I’ve been targetting 5ppm. Which is usually easy in the evening. Then in the morning targetting the same but it takes a whole lot more chlorine! But yes good idea. What level could we have it at without it causing discomfort? I’m not sure if we are allowed to go over 5ppm due to the H&S...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Nice one, I’ve found a net with a really fine mesh so will see how that works. if it takes 40g of DiChlor to get the FCl back to 5ppm is that the best route or use non-chlorine shock first?

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Any ideas what this is? fresh fill yesterday so can’t be anything too bad. I’m thinking either ash from the burner or just soap scum? It wasn’t immediately visible but came up after having the bubbles on for a while. very difficult to get rid of. Had to wrap our skimmer net in a pair of...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Thank you! And yes it certainly helps they won’t notice. It’s just be nice if there wasn’t hair etc floating in the mornings so I think I’ll try turning up the floater a bit more and see how it goes. It’s quite good fun seeing guests use the tub. As it’s wood burning there’s trial and error...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Hi all Thanks for the help so far. So we’ve been running the hot tub for a couple of weeks now with guests. keeping TA around 50-60 PH stays around 7.5 I’m still struggling to get the FCl right though. I’m testing in the AM and it’s nearly always 0.5ppm. I then dose it up to 5ppm. This drop...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Hi As mentioned before, we have a holiday let and have just installed a Wood Burning hot tub. It gets emptied between guests, or once per week, whatever is sooner. We use Dichlor as a sanitiser. I'm just getting used to testing and adjusting. Now I'm using Dichlor (was Calcium Hypo before)...

Sounds good I’ll give it a go without first. I like the idea of alternating. Will help me use up this tub for Cal Hypo too! Thanks

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Sounds good thanks I’ve got the hang of things now and can get nice readings with just 50g TA+ and 3g of chlorine However I’ve only got Calcium Hypo as Chlorine which I’ve noticed makes the pH drift by about 0.6+ over a day. So after a bit of reading it seems DiChlor would be best to switch to...

Purchased the Poollab. Arrived today Very very very impressed. Rock solid bit of kit, very well made. The results are consistent and much more believable. I also like the way the timer is built in so no need to look at a watch then test. My water alakalinity from tap is 19 ( we do live in a...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Been calling around today to get a test kit. Seems a Taylor kit in the UK is impossible to find. I called some of the links above and they mentioned that the labelling on these mid range kits is not EU compliant so they’ve had to stop stocking them. I can get one off eBay perhaps but don’t...

What would you recommend @jseyfert3 ? ive been researching what other places do and from what I can see a lot of them just balance pH and Chlorine at the start then either asks guests to top up or leave it until changeover The UK H&S laws have recently changed and stipulated you must test...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

So just checked out the use of the SWG with the Hot Tub manufacturer. Unfortunately, because the wood burning stove is 304 stainless steel, it's not advisable for it to be in contact with salt water for prolonged periods, as it will lead to corrosion. So back to the drawing board on that one :/

Yes correct, I guess I'll have to wait and see what it reads with a proper kit. But as it stands those readings are outside of the UK acceptable limits anyway for tap water so it does look as though the strips + digital meter are way off.

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Not sure those inline SWGs will work, our hot tub is a 'dry' system and has no wet pumps, so there's nothing to plumb those into. The water movement is via the boiler and that's just stainless steel pipes which circulate the heated water due to the heat difference...

Awesome, thanks @cowboycasey - definately something to look into, I quite like the idea but will see how easy they are to integrate (and guestproof!) Any tips on getting the initial water chemistry to where it should be as quickly as possible? I'm guessing once we have reliable testing, the...

Ah good, I’m quite relieved it could be random test strip readings! Yes any recommendations on test kits, the easier to read the better. I’ll check out the one above, thanks. I’d not heard about SWG before yesterday and saw it mentioned. Maybe a stupid question but do they make the water feel...

I just retested as Mrs Seb wanted to use the hot tub, This was about 2 hours after the last reading above (which was 7.7 Cl, 7.4pH, 40 TA). I've not added anything since the last test, lid has been on, bubbles off. The temperature has increased about 10c though, Readings are now 5.6 Cl, 7.8...

Help balancing a holiday let hot tub (new water every 3-7 days!)

Hi there We have a fibreglass lined wood-burning hot tub (Approx 1000L), and it will be used in a holiday rental. As such, our laws (UK) say it must be emptied and refilled after each rental, which is usually 3-7 days. We opted for a wood-burner as they heat up in 2 hours, and we can leave the...
