    Milky/Cloudy water and I'm stumped

Ok, I brought it to shock level last night and am maintaining. Still no noticeable clearing of the water.

    Milky/Cloudy water and I'm stumped

Ok, thanks. I did bring it to shock level when the cloudiness first arrived a little over 2 weeks ago but I did not maintain it.

    Dead mouse

Don't do anything. If you knew what was at the bottom of even the cleanest lakes and rivers people swim in you'd probably rather eat that dead mouse you just found than swim in them.

    Milky/Cloudy water and I'm stumped

Had this pool for 10 years and have never had this problem. Water has been cloudy for over a week and I cannot clear it. It is milky in color and I can barely see the main drain in the deep end which is only 6'. Two days ago I tried using Alum, adding it directly to the skimmer to aid the...

    Leaking Pentair pool light

I see. I don't have any experience with changing out pool lights. Obviously this involves draining below the level of the light and resealing the light housing.

    Leaking Pentair pool light

It passed inspection. It runs 6' from the pool to the house then through a box 24" off the ground then to the light switch.

    Leaking Pentair pool light

The cord only runs about 6 feet under my decking to the outlet attached to my house. I'm hoping to avoid replacement but it look like that may not happen. Anyone recommend a different product with a better seal? This one seems awful crude. - - - Updated - - - I pulled the fixture out and...

    Leaking Pentair pool light

Yes, the gasket goes around the lens, the lens sits on top of the case and the stainless compression ring sits over everything and is pulled tight with one screw.

    Leaking Pentair pool light

I have a Pentair Amerlite 500w pool light (pictured below) that has been leaking since my pool was built years ago. I did not notice it right away and figured it was something I could fix on my own quite easily...not the case. Here is what I have tried: 1) Bought and installed an...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

This past summer during a very heavy storm have my box drains in the yard backed up causing a lot of water and sediment from the yard to flow into the pool. Could that bring iron into the pool if the yard had been fertilized months earlier? Does all fertilizer contain iron? - - - Updated - -...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I do fertilize the backyard around the pool. I'm very careful to never get near the pool decking with a spreader but the grass does come to within 3' of the pools edge on one side.

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I came home this afternoon to find a crystal clear pool! I think once the AA dropped the FC level, it cleared right up. My wife said it happened in a matter of hours. My new issue is where the iron is coming from. My water report from the town shows no iron in the water.

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I haven't checked today but last night it was at 16 with a cya level of 55. I added a little AA this morning to try to drop the FC quicker. I'm not home but the wife says she thinks it looks better than yesterday right now.

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

Still green this morning. Could this be from my FC level still being very high from bringing it to shock level 36 hours ago? I know if you bring up your FC level too fast during an AA treatment it will cause the iron stains to reappear.

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

Just to update...I'm trusting the experts on this. I also read up a bit and it seems having very clear yet greenish/yellow water (what I have) is typical, however rare, of iron discoloration. I dropped the ph down to 7.2 and added a bunch of Jack's Pink Stuff. Gonna let the pump run overnight...

    New to Pools Chemistry Question

I went through the same CYA nightmare a few years back. I too drained half the pool and the CYA was still off the charts. I did two drain and refills then decided just not to panic. I stopped with the triclor and diclor and used strictly bleach. While CYA will not evaporate out of your...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

No, I believe you are probably right in which case draining and filling will do me no good. So will more Jacks Pink solve this? What do you sequester yours with? Thanks for your help. - - - Updated - - - I do get a report from the town and I have looked at the iron content and thought...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

That's interesting. I fill from the town water supply, do you? I thought this was a rare source of iron in pools, am I incorrect there?

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

My problem is that I cannot identify the source of the iron. I have done a drain and fill in the past to lower a high cya and this did not remove the iron or it returned. My best guess to the source is a concrete stain that my wife had done a few years back. I returned home from out of town...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

Also, since the water is discolored, am I correct assuming that now is a good time to drain some of it out since the iron is in the water and not on the liner?

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I'll take a look but can it really happen that fast, literally in a matter of hours? In the past when i didn't have enough sequesterant in the water, the stain would slowly redeposit on the liner over the course of weeks If this is metals discoloring the water is drain and fill my only option...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I don't see how that can be the case. They would be re-depositing on the liner, not turning the water green. I've dealt with iron and iron stains in the past and have never seen anything like this. They never effect water color, just liner coloring.

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

This isn't liner staining, it's water color. I've dealt with iron stains and AA treatments many times and know how they work and this is unrelated. I am sequestering with Jacks Pink. - - - Updated - - - It is clear and green. The pool is only 6' deep but I can see the bottom clearly. I...

Water went from clear to green in less than 24 hours

I noticed yesterday afternoon my water looking a bit yellow. I tested the water and the results were: FC: 2 PH: 7.4 TA: 70 CYA: 55 I had done an AA treatment for iron staining on my liner a couple weeks back and since then the FC had dropped low a few times so, thinking this was organic I...

Can someone tell me if this is green or yellow algae?

How would Leslie's know what your FC level was if they didn't test it? As for why they would not test water based on the FC level, that's anyones guess.

Time for new water or is there a better way to attack my #'s

Re: Time for new water or is there a better way to attack my CYA has to eventually go down if he's using just bleach, right? If he is no longer adding CYA and his fill source is CYA free then splash out, evap and backwashing will lower it over time. My CYA was about 200 and after a partial...

    Metal Stains Continue to Return

Although Jacks claims that the Pink will actually remove stains over time, you would want to do an ascorbic acid treatment before the initial dose.
