I use a UNICEL Filter, all I do is wash it with the water hose nozzle when the flow gets slow at the return and right back in service.

I purchased a used pump off eBay without the SWCG. I hook it up in the winter and run it 2 hours a day and just dose with bleach as needed.

Without test results it is hard to advise you. You can start by reading http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/shocking_your_pool and running the pump to filter 24/7 You really need a good test kit when trying to maintain your pool.

Empty the skimmer every few days. Brush once a week. Vacuum once/twice a week. Clean the filter every month or two. (when flow slows) Check FC and PH almost daily, other chems every few months. (PH very stable almost no MA used. Hear daddy can we go swimming daily, go swimming almost daily...

Mine stays up and uncovered, check chems once/twice a week. Pump runs 1 hour in the A.M. and 1 in the P.M. stays on if freeze is forecast-ed.

Due to the discoloration of the housing I would say that's a well used Intex SWCG. I would think your money would be better spent on a new unit.

No cloud to mine, added and brushed around until dissolved.

We had that problem with bees too, now we shake the noodles off and take them in doors when not in use.
