    What speed to use?

Wow - you guys are awesome. The installer left our program at 3200 rpm for 12 hours during the day and 2500 rpm for 12 hours overnight. It seemed a little "overkill". The heater is not on - it's finally warm enough in Chicago to not heat the pool! We do have a bypass and they set the valve...

    What speed to use?

Hello TFP! Our very old single speed pump kicked the bucket last week. We now have a fancy (to us) variable speed pump. Is there a calculation that isn’t too complicated for which speeds to run it at and for how long? The installer did program it for us but I want to confirm it’s set right...

    Post-SLAM - what's next?

Would my CYA test be accurate right now? We have backwashed and added water several times so I want to verify that ASAP. I wasn’t sure if that would be affected by a FC level of 20. Thanks

    Post-SLAM - what's next?

Hello, Thanks to some great help from TFP, we have completed our SLAM! 16 days and 29 gallons of 12.5% Chlorine later and we are clear, our OCTL was 0.5 and our CC is < 0.5 🥳 Now, the SLAM directions say to let the FC level drift back to normal. Got that. I will welcome not checking the...

    First SLAM - need reassurance

Thought I'd update you guys who have been so helpful! Things have been improving daily, but we were still getting the green "fluff" at certain spots in the pool. Yesterday we deep cleaned the sand filter. I must say we were surprised it was not in as bad shape as we expected it to be! We are...

    First SLAM - need reassurance

Thanks for the great words of support! I'm trying... I just don't want to miss anything. It's not odd that the accumulation of algae clumps is below the jets? On my last test I had a bunch of it accumulated again after cleaning this morning. I was thinking maybe that's the weakest water...

    First SLAM - need reassurance

How do you check the drain cover? As a non-swimmer (yeah, don't laugh), I'd have to have my husband do that and would need details of "how" before I ask him to.

    First SLAM - need reassurance

Hello I have been in my first SLAM since last Tuesday. It hasn’t gone how I expected - I seem to be able to maintain my SLAM level the majority of the time with the the occasional large plummet (my target SLAM FC is 20 and it stays mostly between 19 and 20; yesterday I saw a 6ppm drop in 4...

    Help with green debris

Mknauss- one more question - during the SLAM process does the vacuuming refer to a vacuum to waste or can we vacuum with the robot cleaner (I believe I know the answer and it needs to be vacuum to waste but want to be sure) thanks!!

    Help with green debris

Thank you so much. I do know the previous owners used flocc as they left a 5 gallon bucket here. They used all sorts of hocus pocus. I guess we will SLAM it and get this all resolved. Thanks for all your help.

    Help with green debris

I normally do that proportion but wanted it accurate to the 0.2 for the OCLT. Even if I transcribed it wrong! I thought I’d this was organic matter that I would see a >1.0 FC loss overnight. With only a 0.4 loss, it still could be organic?

    Help with green debris

Thank you for your advice. I was under the impression that sand needs to be replaced every few years and we do not know when this sand may have been put into use by the last owners. So because it’s green it must be organic and alive? That makes it easy to determine what it is then. If...

    Help with green debris

Mknauss, you are catching me rushing and multi tasking at work. You are right. Using the 25mL sample I miscalculated. It was actually 31 drops so would have been 6.2

    Help with green debris

Yes, sir. That is what I meant. My apologies. I took a baseline read after the sun went down (6.1) and then another read this morning before the sun rose (5.8). That is what TFP article on OCLT recommended to do to rule out if it is algae. Did I misread the article?
