New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

Update! WE GOT IT OUT!!! With the water level as it is in the picture, and the clogbuster inflated but not exactly right where you would want it, my daughter's long armed bf got in the pool, shoved it upwards from the outside and grabbed it from the inside. Someone with shorter arms couldn't...

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

Update -- Got a temporary pool set up and mostly filled. Found out our heater has died and it blurped a lot of rust into the pool when I turned on the pump. We have a main drain, so I had turned it on to start getting the water up to speed. Anyway, the rust all settled and pretty much has been...

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

I'm still working on it. Got 2 temp pools, working on getting the water cleaned up a bit. Lots o' greenish brown crud came out of the return when I fired up the pump. We got a thing from the hardware store that is for breaking plumbing clogs. It is 2 feet long and 2 inches in diameter, pumps up...

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

The expensive thing about water trucks is the water truck itself, so it would be cheaper to go buy a 16' Coleman pool at Walmart for $250 - and they still have a few. We are looking to have a very hot summer so I'm pretty sure I could resell it and recoup a bit. I've been making a lot of...

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

The auto body bags are $75 on Amazon -- not the most expensive pool gadget I guess, but hoping not to spend that. I will post a picture tomorrow of the liner with the rake handles stuck down the side. Can't really get a picture of the offending part as it is down at the bottom of the side wall...

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

Another idea that has been "floated" is to dig under the bottom rail. The bottom rail sits on flat concrete blocks and there is a foam cove but no bottom liner.

New Liner, left shop vac in too long now can't get it out!

Ok, I'm an idiot, but what do I do now? We are putting in our first replacement liner. Had to get water delivered because our well is too slow. We weren't really sure when we were supposed to remove the shop vac hose from the skimmer opening, and now the pool is full and the shop vac is still...

    Restarting pump, wont create suction?

Thanks for the help! Good tip on the vacuum hose.

    Restarting pump, wont create suction?

It doesn't pour out, it drains away into the pool. (Normally it would pour out, seen by the washing of the skimmer window when in use) At its partially full state, the pump is above the water level. So then I'm guessing I can't get suction until the pool is full enough to get the pump below...

    Restarting pump, wont create suction?

Hi all, I'm replacing my liner for the first time ever, and have a bunch of water I need to get out of the pool. My aboveground has a main drain (as well as a dished bottom, so there is a lot of water). I should be able to get the pump running and backwash out the water using the main drain...

Borax not available -- Pacific NW only?

I found a&h washing soda at the first old-school hardware store I went to, and got two 55 Oz boxes for $10 (and a cool weeding tool - they have neat stuff in there). Over the past 4 days I've been watching the chlorine drop and the pH and TA go up. Currently FC 5, TC 5, pH 7.2, TA 70. Borates...

Borax not available -- Pacific NW only?

Thanks for the very quick response! I had forgotten about the pool calculator and was just getting to it. For some reason we aren't getting electricity at the pool and my regular electrician has a full time job now. I'm working on that. In the meanwhile, to keep the pool from getting mossy we...

Borax not available -- Pacific NW only?

Well, we're having a sudden heat wave so it is time to open, about a month ahead of schedule. I forgot all about ordering this boric acid and am going to do it now. I am guessing powdered over granular for quicker dissolving? Is there a link to a chart that says how much to put on to raise the...

Borax not available -- Pacific NW only?

I have been trying to buy 20 Mule Team for the last few months but no one has it. Two separate stores said there is an issue with the supplier having sold it all to someone else, so they can't get any. I didn't make a trip to Walmart as the closest one is 30 miles away -- they would have the...

    4 Months Until Swim Season

Good to hear. Therefore, the high chlorine rate must be due to faulty chlorinator. What do you think of the inline liquid chlorine dispensers? http://www.poolchlorinator.com/2010/02/ ... ing-pools/

    4 Months Until Swim Season

That was my thought re: salt. I read in one of the posts that ammonia can cause the chlorine to read high. Is there a test for ammonia? Ammonia was a result of bacteria. We did have the algae issue in December and the chlorinator nearly turned off to try to get the chlorine rate down -- maybe...

    4 Months Until Swim Season

Re: 4 Months Until Swim Season : now only a few weeks! Changed the pressure gauge and that cured our over pressure problem. That was easy! Chlorine is still running SUPER high with chlorinator set at .5 I can't do the daily check an adjust because it would be a one hour errand every day, so...

    4 Months Until Swim Season

Forgot to tell you status of filter sand. We replaced the original sand with one bag of glass in 2010. Turns out it was supposed to have been 4 or 5 bags of sand, so the pool store made a big error. Their own repair guy figured it out when the heater began groaning due to slow flow July or...

    4 Months Until Swim Season

I read the Chlorine/CYA chart and seems like I'm ok at 15-20 to shock. I read the shocking your pool page again. FC is not at 0, CC is at 0 so the main thing is the continued presence of algae. The sandy piles on the bottom indicate the filter isn't doing a great job (little piles, can't be...

    4 Months Until Swim Season

We've had our pool about 6 years and have suffered through a few algae outbreaks over winter when we forgot all about the pool. Last year opened to crystal water and I want to do that again! own Discovered that the pucks had run out around turkey day when we were heading out for a 2 week vaca...

Back washing sand filter caused algea in pool

Having a somewhat similar problem (curing algae outbreak). I have never used the Rinse setting on my sand filter. When do you use it? Are the valves set the same way as for backwash? Sounds like the idea here is to backwash until water runs clear (5 min or less), then rinse for 5 minutes?

After 12 days my water is still cloudy

My problem is almost exactly like this -- I will create my own post, though. Mine also is taking forever to clear. I don't have pictures, but mine looks like this too.

SlimeBag for 1/10 of the price, yes you can!

I don't know what a MIP is, but I am having trouble with dust so I just ordered four of the Duda Diesel bags. Thanks for posting the picture of the PVC assembly. I suppose I'll be $50 in by the time I get the whole thing made but for four bags instead of one.
