    Explorer 30 buyers....packaging question

To anyone who has recently bought an Explorer 30 - did you get the 2 sets of filters (fine and "spring") and if so, where was the second set located in the packaging? Cant seem to find mine....we have all the original packaging and still cant locate them. The fine ones were already installed...

    Polaris 280 power suck - 3 hours?

Dont forget the robot uses electricity too :) Your electric cost is so low, I wouldnt be looking at that as a reason to change. Even if you had to run 4 cyles of the Polaris to get your pool clean, thats going to be about 2 bux. Yes it takes more time, of course. There are robots under $1K...

    Polaris 280 power suck - 3 hours?

Exactly. There are a ton of ways to look at it....what do you "make" for an hourly wage at work? If it takes an hour to vac your pool, anything less than that hourly wage is (technically) saving you money. But I dont look at it that way. How much is your time worth (not monetary but...

    Polaris 280 power suck - 3 hours?

Up here in CT (where everything is expensive), my kwh cost is about 27 cents. So 4.5 kwh = about $1.15. Not bad, IMHO....as long as the Polaris does the job in 3 hours. In another thread I did the math on how much my robot ended up costing me since it died after 8 years. Worked out to...

Pool Cleaners (robot, etc)- how long have you had yours?

Had our Blue Diamond for 8 years, this year its no longer working correctly. But I think we all need to preface "years" with how long our season actually is. Here in CT, *maybe* 4 months of use a year. And when I was using it, *maybe* once or twice a week. So 32 months = 128 weeks, times...

    Blue Diamond pool cleaner issues

Might be a little late, sorry about that.... We did like it up until now. It cleaned well enough, sure it missed a spot here and there but the bulk of it was vacuumed up in one cycle. Id either run a second or just brush the areas that still had some dirt left. Now, after buying the "tune...

    Blue Diamond pool cleaner issues

This season we started having issues with our Blue Diamond. Have to admit I have never done any maintenance on it other than washing it with freshwater, cleaning the filter, etc. Its never been an issue until now. Reading through the manual, I see a note: "Make sure that your Pool Cleaner...

MaxFlo VSP eventual air in returns

Pump doesnt lose water when shut off (at least for the 15 minutes I left it off) Dug up some silicone grease and did the pump lid o-ring and the "t-ring" between the union and the pump Put some food coloring on the glued joint between union and PVC, didnt notice anything getting sucked in...

MaxFlo VSP eventual air in returns

Never checked when shutting down, will do that soon. O-rings are clean, but not lubed (they were brand new but I dont have the recommended Jacks lube....will run out and get a tube) Installer (me!) used the included unions. The o-rings are installed, but I didnt lube them because I wasnt sure...

MaxFlo VSP eventual air in returns

Just started with my new MaxFlo VSP pump (SP2302). I *thought* everything was OK, but today woke up to air coming out of the returns. When I stop and start the pump, at 3000 RPM there is no air in the pump basket or the returns. After prime cycle it will kick down to whatever V-speed is...

Variable speed pump and opening pool

Vinyl pool, Im not too worried about calcium. Been opening this way for a long time and its never been an issue. i do have some liquid though for when Im too lazy to pre-dissolve cal hypo.

Variable speed pump and opening pool

Yeah my SWCG is not enabled....it will flash "no flow" even with the purifier set at 1% so I set it at 1% and lowered the RPM until the flashing stopped, just to get an idea of how low I can run the pump. Currently Im just filtering and using cal hypo shock.

Variable speed pump and opening pool

Yep sorry about that! I forgot to update profile, I will shortly. I dropped it down to 2500RPM for now. I ran it at 1200 RPM earlier just to see how low I can go without my chlorinator yelling about no flow and 1200 still let it go...I didnt try to go any lower. Ill run outside and drop it...

Variable speed pump and opening pool

First season opening my pool with our variable speed pump (MaxFlo 2302VSP). I wonder - what does everyone else do in regards to RPMs? Do I just set it to max and walk away until the pool is clear? Do I lower it off max to same some electricity, but assume it will take longer to clear that...

AutoPilot DIG-220: intermittent "warning! low-amps, cell?"

Update: ran the diagnostic that AquaCal support suggested....kill power to unit for 10 seconds or so, apply power and Boost 24 immediately after screen comes up, then check volts/amps after 25 seconds What I saw was 21V/8.0A then 20V/6.8A then 20V/5A. They said the spike at startup indicates...

AutoPilot DIG-220: intermittent "warning! low-amps, cell?"

Checking my AutoPilot panel this morning, I pressed the Menu button to light up the display. Temp was 71, purifier level at 37%. I dont think the purifier was running at that point. One or two screen refreshes later, the temp jumped to 76, purifier level to 40-something, and then the...

Are the stock Hayward MaxFlo VS unions too restrictive for my plumbing?

My MaxFlo VS (SP2302VSP) pump came with unions that are 1.5" inner diameter and 2" outer diameter. I know that means I can slip 2" pipe over the outside, but I was wondering a couple things: 1. Are there unions that are 2" *inner* diameter available and 2. Is it worth trying to "upgrade"...

Autopilot Digital 220 2 years old power level 3

I have the same SWG and run my salt levels at 3500-4000. Not sure thats your issue but Id try upping the salt if possible. There really isnt much salt taste at 3500ppm so I see no drawbacks to trying it. Id also check all of the cell connections for corrosion, water tightness and overall...

    What is this mystery part?

Another option might be this: https://www.amazon.com/Hayward-AXV093CP-Skimmer-Replacement-Cleaners/dp/B004VTH60I You can use any hose section (you might even be able to just cut the existing a little shorter), just feed it right into the cone then the cone right into the skimmer suction...

Pool Pilot Digital pump relay question

Whoops, spoke to soon. Without the pump attached I can use the swg to turn the pump power on and off. The relay clicks and I get 230v at the pump wiring. One I connect the pump, though, turning the pump on through the swg immediately trips the gfci breaker that feeds the pool. Any ideas? The...

Pool Pilot Digital pump relay question

NVM, figured it out! (thinking logically works wonders!) All the relay does is....relay...the 2 Line In feeds. The relay (seems to be) rated for 230V, so it can pass either 115 or 230 but it will only pass what the transformer primary is jumpered for. Luckily, my current single speed pump can...

Pool Pilot Digital pump relay question

Spring has sprung (yay). Working on converting my setup to 220V to support a new pump, everything including the Pool Pilot is setup for 110V currently. Question - if I run 220V to the Pool Pilot, can the pump relay stay in place and operate the existing 110V pump? I dont want to "just try it"...

    hairline crack at multiport return

I had a cracked multiport some years ago (tried to tighten the threaded inlet pipe just a little too much and cracked the port) I carefully pried the crack open the best I could, then filled it with AquaMend, which is a two part "putty stick" that you cut a chunk off of and then knead it...

Just converted to SWG, chlorine demand went way up!

I just assumed it was me...while my chem levels seem correct it could just have been a fluke or there really was something eating that much FC overnight (doubtful but who knows) For the heck of it I emailed Morton support. Interested if they come back with any info. Ill post an update if they do.

Just converted to SWG, chlorine demand went way up!

Just an FYI, someone else I know used Morton Pool Salt this year and experienced the same massive overnight FC drop.

Just converted to SWG, chlorine demand went way up!

Same here, Morton Pool Salt. Oddly enough I *usually* use Diamond Solar Salt from Lowes, but Walmart had the Morton stuff at the same price so I went with "real" pool salt instead.

Just converted to SWG, chlorine demand went way up!

Interesting...something similar happened to me last week as well. FC was at SLAM level (12 or 13ppm). CC was 0.5 or maybe even less. Added the 200 lbs of salt I usually add every season to bring salt level back up. The next morning FC was all the way down to 1.0 and CC was 1.0. I know my...

    CYA conversations

Ive been CYA-phobic since the days of poolforum.com preaching WHY I should be. Even when I was using tablets, then bleach, then bleach via Liquidator and even now with an SWG, Ive always been of the thought "Id rather use more chlorine than pollute my water with CYA" Last year I made an effort...

2016 pump that doesnt suck the electricity!?

Thats a REALLY powerful pump right there. Its rated at something like 17amps, thats why its costing a lot to run it, especially if you are running 24/7. Does your pool have multiple suction and/or returns? 33ft round but 28K gallons makes me think its deeper than the standard 4 feet, yes? It...

    Hayward Motor Casing Temperature

Not sure if you've tried this already, but make sure all of the vents in the motor/pump casing are clear. My Northstar was running really hot last season, turns out there were vents in the motor case partially hidden by the pump casing. Pulled off the pump casing part that was in the way...
