    Pump shuts itself off

Anyone have experience ordering just the motor for a pump? I am considering this http://www.amazon.com/AO-Smith-ST1102-Nema-C-SP3010EEAZ/dp/B003XKGVFM Any better place to order a pump? Does Hayward rebrand AO-Smith pumps? Thanks!

    Pump shuts itself off

OP here, no problem with me. This discussion IS useful to me so please discuss... If I wanted to replace just the motor (SP3010EEAZ), how would I go about that? If I found and ordered the part, is it straightforward for an experienced DIYer to replace? Is the $20 shaft seal a difficult...

    Pump shuts itself off

Thanks, Jason. I wouldn't say louder, but it did sound different. Different from the normal hum that it makes, maybe slower, or maybe under more strain. This is the 8th season on the pump. Is this typical for a pump? Should they last longer?

    Pump shuts itself off

Hi. I have a Hayward SuperPump II (1 hp) and it was running great up until last night. Last night, it just stopped running. Flicked the switch off then back on and nothing runs. Today, I flicked the switch and it started running but only at about 1/2 speed, then shut itself off after about...

    DE Filter Pressure Question

Thanks, James. I thought it might be something like that.

    DE Filter Pressure Question

Hi! I have the Hayward Pro Grid DE4820 (48 sq ft). My pressure with a fresh charge of DE was 9 psi. After vacuuming, it had climbed to about 20 psi. I shut the pump down for an hour or 2, came back out and restarted the pump, and the pressure was back down to 9 psi again. After more...

Left over trichlor pucks after pool closing

Do you think I could just let them dry and put them back in the bucket with the unused pucks?

Left over trichlor pucks after pool closing

What should I do with half-dissolved left-over trichlor pucks after I closed the pool for the winter? Is there any way to safely dispose of them? Should I pack them away and use them next year? Thanks!

Wahoo! TF100 kit arrived. Now for some real numbers...

I went light on the CYA. I was thinking the trichlor in the chlorinator would bring it up some more. Is my thinking correct? Note: I am only newly freed from relying on the pool store and thinking for myself.

Wahoo! TF100 kit arrived. Now for some real numbers...

Yes, I used the block test. I just ran the FAS-DPD test and came up with: FC = 13.5 (!) CC = 0.5 Ouch! I guess it was a little more greater than 7 than I thought. I can let that level come down over the next few days. When I added the 5 drops of R-0003 it turned an ever-so-slight shade of...

Wahoo! TF100 kit arrived. Now for some real numbers...

My TF100 kit arrived today. TC was > 5 (off the scale, maybe around 7 if I had to guess) Ph = 7.2 CYA = 20 (the dot disappeared around 20) CH = 120 TA = 100 Almost there. I need to bump the CH up because it is a plaster pool. The Ph could use a little boost too. My CYA was zero when I...

Question about CYA in a sock

Thanks. I now have the sock dangling about 1 foot away from one of the spa jets and it is getting a good soaking. I have a TF100 kit on order and will be a brand-new user when it comes in. I'll post up my numbers when I have them. :)

Question about CYA in a sock

Thanks, Richard. Put it in the skimmer while the pump is running, but tie it to the pool side or noodle when the pump is off, right? The pool store says to pour it through the skimmer with the pump running and keep the pump running for 24 hours. I have a DE filter and I worry about this being...

Question about CYA in a sock

Probably a silly question, but I'll ask anyway: If you want to raise you CYA level by putting CYA in a sock and putting it in the skimmer basket... if it dissolves too slowly and you want to turn off your pump for the night, can you leave it in the skimmer and restart the pump later to finish...

Can anyone help me identify my pool?

Thanks, James. I followed your links. There is only 1 builder in NJ: Creative Master Pools Inc. but they are way up in Lincoln Park. I guess they could have come down to central NJ. That is some very interesting info on the Master Pools guild. Not sure that I want to contact them - I think...

Can anyone help me identify my pool?

Hi everyone! Seven years ago we bought a house with a custom in-ground plaster pool we don't know much about. We know it was built sometime in the '70s, it's a kidney bean shape, it's got a shallow end with "wedding cake" stairs and a deep end (about 8 ft.) with a notch with stairs. There is...

    Hello from New Jersey

As soon as I can get my wife to put it on her paypal account, I'm going to get a TFT membership and a TF-100 kit. I'll work on getting the PH down and post my numbers when I do. I'll probably go with the dry acid (Lo 'n Slo) since I have it on-hand. Thanks!

    Hello from New Jersey

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply! I did not know that. That's not good. I do have trichlor tablets in the in-line chlorinator, but I have it turned off at the moment. I didn't want the CYA to climb any higher. But, now it is a trade-off: to a let the CYA climb a little bit higher and let...

    Hello from New Jersey

Hi Everyone! I live in central New Jersey and have a 29000 gal. in-ground plaster pool (came with the house), Hayward Pro Grid DE filter (48 sq ft), Hayward Superpump II (1 hp), and in-line CMP chlorinator. I've been "winging it" for 7 years now (by "winging it" I mean, get the water tested at...
