Right - I have not loaded it or turned it w I was concerned about impacting the SWG.

Chlorine Feeder in line with SWG

Our pool is small (8500 G). We have always used our SWG, but heavy rains dilute the salt concentration as the overflow drains to our ditches. This makes it very difficult to sustain an adequate salt level, resulting in algae growth. This is worse when we are gone for a week and there is heavy...

    Help on calculating flow rate

Yes, I purged the air from the filter - that's when it dropped from 12 to 10. I can try measuring the pressure at 3450 - and cross-correlate. But, as you suggest, I think I'll wait until I get the air leak fixed before pursuing this further.

    Help on calculating flow rate

I don't have another gauge, but I thumped it, and it dropped down to 12. I should note that I have an air leak - waiting on a strainer basket o ring to come in as the most likely fix for that. I shut the pump off, the skimmer lids popped off, and then I reprimed. The gauge now reads 10.

    Help on calculating flow rate

Mark - The gauge does go to 0 when the pumps shuts off. The gauge sites on top of a Pentair Clean & Clear cartridge filter, so it's probably a little over 3 ft above the water level of the pool. Dave - Thanks, good point, but I would like to know for my own edification. By "adequate skimmer...

    Help on calculating flow rate

I'm trying to calculate flow rate so that I can set the pump RPM to turn over the pool once per day (and ultimately lower my electrical costs). Here are some data points: Pump: Intelliflo VS-3050 Pool volume: 8500 Current RPM: 2050 Current pressure measured at filter gauge: 14 So, using the...

Leak vs evaporation - interconnected pool and spa

I replaced the spa return check valve , and that did solve the problem. On closer inspection, there waz a tiny tear in the old one. Thanks for all your help.

    Expected Equipment Life

I just double checked, and the pump is actually an Intelliflo VS, not a Whisperflo. Any different perspectives on that pump? Oh, and after diverting the errant sprinkler head, I still see moisture under the pump - so I suspect it will need attention.

    Expected Equipment Life

Yes, we do have gutters above the equipment, but now that I think about it, there is a sprinkler head that hits the equipment. I should probably fine tune that one. And, I agree, I draw the line at DIY when it comes to gas.

    Expected Equipment Life

Thanks for the heads-up on the Whisperflo, quinn. At what point should I proactively do the seal replacement? I don't see any signs of leaks or other problematic behavior. So, does anyone have any feedback on the expected life of the other components?

    Expected Equipment Life

As a new pool owner, I don't know what to expect in terms of longevity for our equipment. The in-ground salt water pool was installed in 2008, and we bought the house last year. The equipment is all Pentair. I'd like to be able to budget for the future - can y'all give me some idea of when...

Leak vs evaporation - interconnected pool and spa

Pulled the valve cover off, and inspection showed no debris - so now I'm really mystified.

Leak vs evaporation - interconnected pool and spa

OK, back in town, so I can look at this problem now. What do I need to do before or after I take the screws out of the Jandy check valve to inspect it ( other than turning off the pump)?

Ok, thanks. I am out of town now, so the diagnostic work will continue when I return.

Leak vs evaporation - interconnected pool and spa

Ah hah! Good question. It is blocked off. Now the flow makes sense to me. What do I need to do before or after I take the screws out of the check valve to inspect it ( other than turning off the pump)?

Here's a more top-side view, from the right and left. The chlorinator is not used - just the SWG.

Leak vs evaporation - interconnected pool and spa

I'm still a newbie - we have had the house with pool just over a year, and I am still learning about it. Our pool has a spa that flows into it. We run the filter from 8 to 5 daily. At night, the spa shows a considerable water drop (like 7" for the 7' diameter spa) - which is then replenished...
