    Skimmer socks?

Do you guys use skimmer socks? Are they recommended? Do they actually prolong the life of your filter? It seems like they’d work but I’ve only just discovered these and haven’t bought any yet. Thought I’d ask here first. Thanks.

    Aeration to increase PH

I find my pool often dips to 7.0 or 7.2 in the mornings. I only run my pump during the day and if I aerate using the jets it rises to about 7.4 or so by the afternoon.

Yea that’s right it is pressure treated spruce. This is good info thanks. I am coming around to the realization that a pressure wash and sanding every couple years is prob the way to go on this deck.

Recommendations for deck staining and maintenance.

I’ve been using a hand held orbital sander when I have a spare hour. Doing a bit at a time. The results are pretty clean so far actually. I don’t think I’ll need to use a stripper. It’s slow going, but not to bad, especially on the part of the deck that is only a few years old.kind of a crappy...

So I started to research a bit more into this whole staining business and I noticed that Behr (and prob most other brands that do stains) also make what they call a wood penetrating oil. You can get it tinted as well. So I think maybe you are on to something with the wood oils. Anyway, they are...

@Pauls234 thanks for the reply. This is helpful and very timely. I had considered trying the stripper actually but for some reason I decided in my mind that it wouldn’t work. I think I may just give it a go, and then sand whatever is left over. As far as what to do with new staining afterwards...

Recommendations for deck staining and maintenance.

Yea I kinda got a weird situation. Part of the deck closer to the house out to about 12 feet is older. In fact that portion is now 12 years old pressure treated spruce. Beyond 12 feet up to the pool and then the areas at the ends of the pool were built when the pool was put in (August of 2019)...

Ok thanks. I don’t mind having to do a light sanding and pressure wash every year or two but I can’t get my head around staining this thing once every three years.

Thanks I feel like this is what I wanted to hear. I think it’s prob easiest. Half the deck is about 10 years older then some of the newer stuff directly around the pool. When it was built we had it integrated into the existing part closer to the house. I have seen some of the trex stuff and it...

Recommendations for deck staining and maintenance.

Yea it’s a bit of a pain. I agree it would be easiest to stain over what is there now but we hate this semi transparent brownish stain and want it gone. That’s gunna take some work I think. I feel like this is going to be the summer of sanding. Maybe once it’s sanded off just do nothing but a...

Recommendations for deck staining and maintenance.

Hey guys. Well, pool is open for the year and I prob shouldn’t say this but I feel like after a couple of seasons under my belt and following the good advice here I have the water under control (more or less). Different kind of post this year: I stained the deck a few years ago and now it looks...

What to do if Gizmo won’t fit.

First time closing. Everything went great (at least I think). Saved myself 300 bucks, minus 30 dollars for antifreeze and liquid chlorine. Thanks guys.

What to do if Gizmo won’t fit.

This rings a bell now. I think what they did was they plugged it, and then put the empty jug of antifreeze in there. It’s all coming back to me now.

What to do if Gizmo won’t fit.

This is the first year I have closed my pool myself. Last summer an end piece of the connector for my kreepy Krawler got stuck in my skimmer. It doesn’t affect anything or the operation of the skimmer but it won’t come out. We’ve tried everything to remove it. Anyway, the pool company that...

pH fluctuating up and down this year

Hopefully some people will learn from my dumb mistakes! Although I don’t think this one was quite as embarrassing as when I thought there was something wrong with my skimmer (just needed more water in the pool!). Thanks guys!

pH fluctuating up and down this year

Well guess what. It’s now 7.8. :ROFLMAO: Edit: This makes me realize that last year I was consistently taking samples in the evenings, and for some reason this year I’ve been doing it in the AM. Unreal!

pH fluctuating up and down this year

Ah. Good question. This morning no. It rained last night, I turned the pump on this AM, and I tested it right away. I didn’t even think of that. Sometimes the simplest explanation alludes me!! It’s been running a few hours now I will check it again. Thx.

pH fluctuating up and down this year

The only thing I can think of is the rain we have gotten lately. It has rained in the night a few times. Downpour for 10 or 15 minutes. I test with a Taylor CK 2006 kit. I don’t add anything except a couple weeks ago I added some muriatic acid when it was 8.0. Seems strange no? Like this...

pH fluctuating up and down this year

Thanks TS. Good to hear the TA is OK. I thought maybe that might be the prob. It just seems like last summer I’d be able to keep it steady for a week, but this summer it drops overnight a fair bit. I bring it back up to optimal range over a day or two, couple times it did get too high, then...

pH fluctuating up and down this year

Hi guys. This year pool has been pretty easy to manage. Been able to keep things in check for the most part. However, one thing I have noticed the past 2 or 3 weeks is that I’m having some problems keeping the pH stable. Usually in the morning it is 7.0, I try and aerate it through the day by...

What’s the cause of my pump system acting up like this?

Low water was the issue guys. Put an inch in and everything is good. Relieved. Thanks a bunch.

What’s the cause of my pump system acting up like this?

Thanks. This pump does seem to have a lot of umph. I notice when I vacuum the pool it pulls dirt from many feet away. I do t know maybe that’s normal for pumps but it does seem to pull a lot of water. Hopefully raising the level will do the trick. Will report back.

What’s the cause of my pump system acting up like this?

I had a sock full of CYA pellets in there but it does it with or without the sock. And I’ve had the sock in there since opening last week but I took it out today to test if that was the culprit. But seems not.
