Closing AGP and leaving it up... In North Dakota.

Just to give a 3.5 year update. I've left the pool up, filled to nearly the top, not covered, every year since. I have the Steel sided AGP now, and I even left the stairs in this year to freeze. No issues!

Liquid Chlorine Shelf life vs Effectiveness

Hmm, i'll have to look at my bottles. I would never have noticed that. I use Pro-Clor 12.5% from menards - and looking at the bottle it appears you're correct. Crazy!

Liquid Chlorine Shelf life vs Effectiveness

I guess I disagree with that. All my bottles have a spill-proof adhesive seal under the cap. Its definitely not breathable.

Liquid Chlorine Shelf life vs Effectiveness

Ok - perfect - that's what was important to me - that it report correctly - and not that somehow, it would show 5ppm CL and not be as effective as fresh chlorine. Thank you!

Liquid Chlorine Shelf life vs Effectiveness

Hey all - I just wanted to come here for a little more information from the community that I haven't been successful finding on my own. I've read that chlorine starts to break down relatively quickly on the shelf, and will be less effective over even a few months on the shelf. My main...

Robot Vac for 18' Above Ground Pool - AIPER?

Hey Everyone - Just stumbled across this AIPER pool cleaner on amazon (link below), and it got me thinking - maybe I should get a robot. I have an 18' round hard sided AGP with stairs. Is it too small for a robot, would I be wasting my money? Should I get one that climbs the sides? I see...

    Constant Dirt in Pool

I just don't understand how it would be doing that. What would I even look for? When i used the 1 micron bag to completely clean the pool, the stuff still showed up the day after too.

    Constant Dirt in Pool

Not to Hijack the OP's thread - but I've got a few updates to share. Now before I go to far, I will be doing a SLAM, just couldn't this weekend as we had expected pool traffic. I'm not losing chlorine very fast at all, so I could hold off. Yesterday I took my time vac'ing the pool before we...

I also purchased something similar to the slime bag - same deal, little smaller - but also only $10. Reviews seem positive...

    Constant Dirt in Pool

I have the same issue - thinking it was dirt / silt. I can vac most of it, my chlorine is stable and under control. I had a bloom early last year, but got it under control. Took the stairs out and scrubbed them. I do leave the pool up over the winter (this is North Dakota, so it does freeze...

Best Manual Pool Brush/Vac? 18' AGP and 1.5hp pump

I did order this one - tried it out the other day - it works better than my old one, but not great. It could be a bit heavier, but I think I can add some weight - so gonna try that next time. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R3GNR9N?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Best Manual Pool Brush/Vac? 18' AGP and 1.5hp pump

Hey Everyone - Going into my 4th year of AGP ownership (2 in Intex, last 2 in Steel Sided) I've about had it cleaning with my Intex "deluxe pool" vacuum. I don't mind manually cleaing the pool, it's somewhat satisifying, but this thing takes forevery and you have to go real slow to keep...

Pool Heater specific pump - Recommendations?

Sounds like the min. the heater needs for flow is 20gpm, my TACO will do 15gpm max. So we'll see...

Pool Heater specific pump - Recommendations?

I reached out to Raypak to see if they can give me an idea of the idea flow rate through the heater, or minimum at least - I think the Taco might be able to do it - the flow rate is ok, but the volume might not be high enough as typically floor heat uses 3/4" pex max vs the 2" connectors the...

Pool Heater specific pump - Recommendations?

Is there a hands off way to change the speed on the VS pumps? Or do you have to walk over there and manually change it whenever you want it. Right now, I have my pump and heater on a smart outlet, so I can just start heating from anywhere.

Pool Heater specific pump - Recommendations?

Interesting - I certainly might have too much pump for my 18'x52 pool, but Dang do I like the pressure and I have a few pcv plummed water features - so I'd rather have more than less. My exact model is SP1515Z1BC https://www.hayward-pool.com/shop/en/pools/power-flo-lx-a-supowx--1 As far as a...

Pool Heater specific pump - Recommendations?

Hey Everyone - Just coming off my first season with a gas pool heater. Love it, worked as expected, and very happy. The only improvement I'd like to make is to get a seperate pump to move the water through the heater - my pool pump is a 1.5 Hayward, and while I'm happy with that for it's use...

Near constant possible Algae fight - clear water but silt on the bottom

Just to update - Last week I unhooked the stairs, removed the rubber step grips, scrubbed the stairs and vac'd to waste what was in the pool. Popped the CL up to 15, and hoped for the best. Well the day after CL was at 14, and 3 days later is was still at 13. I think that's a victory. I...

Near constant possible Algae fight - clear water but silt on the bottom

Cool - i'll check that out. I'm at a rate of about 2 ppm CL loss from day to day with no activity in the pool.

Fine silt bypassing my new cartridge filter

Also - you'll find that your grass will LOVE propertly balanced water. The small amount of chlorine will not hurt your grass at all. My neighbor just had a hose come loose and he lost about 1/3 of his water, most of which ended up in my yard. As you can see, the grass was REAL happy about it.

Near constant possible Algae fight - clear water but silt on the bottom

Is there a good way to completely clean the stairs? Just dump straight bleach on them and scrub? Or will just letting them dry 100% do the job?

Near constant possible Algae fight - clear water but silt on the bottom

This is my third year with a pool, first with a steel sided AGP. Last few years have been pretty easy - I test every other day, keep levels in check and things have been great. Early this year, I noticed things were getting cloudy and I had a dark colored silt on the bottom. Vacuuming it...

What to backfill with - semi-inground AGP

I've backfilled a bit - some extra sand my neighbor had - but I put down landscape fabric between the pool wall and the sand / dirt to hopefully give it some sort of barrier over the years. we'll see how it turns out.

Slightly Cloudly water - Chemicals in balance - Floc or clarifier?

So - follow up. I went slam and kept it at 10-11ppm for 3 days. Lots of silt on the bottom of the pool, but it got very clear. Passed an overnight CL test - 8pm 11ppm to 10am still at 11ppm. I took the cover off for the day (still only 20cya) and filled the pool right up to the top. Last...

    Solar Cover Clamps?

I thought about that - mine would only need about a 1" trim to do that same thing

    Solar Cover Clamps?

I got a new (and better) solar cover this year, and i'm having trouble keeping it on the pool with our North Dakota wind. Previously I had an Intex 18' and cheap cover, and it would take a real storm to even move that a little. Now I have an steel side AGP and it seems like slightly above...

Slightly Cloudly water - Chemicals in balance - Floc or clarifier?

Thanks for the heads up - I have not done an overnight test yet- I will do that. Hey - thanks for the reply. I guess I wasn't running my filter 24/7 as I figured turning the water over twice was all the filtering it needed - but I can definitely do that. This filter is brand new - I did a...
