Cloudy water without evidence of algae

During the summer I have a regular problem with cloudy water. I keep my chemistry within the levels recommended by TFP (chlorine 5.0, CC 0.0, CYA 70, TA 79, ph 7.6) I regularly check Combined Chlorine and OCLT, neither of which show evidence of algae. I have several Crape Myrtle trees near the...

Seal between sand filter standpipe and multiport valve?

Thanks. I suspect that the plant dust is just so fine that it passes through the filter.

Seal between sand filter standpipe and multiport valve?

My understanding is that water is not pulled into the laterals by suction, rather it is pushed down through the sand and into the laterals by pump pressure from the top of the sand layer. Thus, it seems possible that water could be forced in between the junction of the standpipe to MPV. Adding...

Seal between sand filter standpipe and multiport valve?

I have a Hayward Pro series sand filter. Is there supposed to be an O-ring or other seal between the standpipe and the multiport valve? If not, what prevents pump pressure from forcing water and fine sediment directly through the standpipe/multiport valve junction rather than being forced down...

    Debris bypassing sand filter

I start filtering at 7:00 AM. As I said, there was no sediment visible on the bottom before the pump started, only shortly after so the sediment seems to have blown out of the returns. Also, I have a Betta Bot solar skimmer that patrols the pool surface 24/7 and keeps the surface very clean.

    Debris bypassing sand filter

Another piece of info: after I added clarifier yesterday, pump pressure increased from 12 to 14. Today it is back to 12. Since opening the pool six weeks ago pressure has only increased from 11 to 12.

    Debris bypassing sand filter

By the way, my pool is inground, SWG. FC 5.5, CC 0.0, ph 7.8, TA 60, CYA 70

    Debris bypassing sand filter

The pool was starting to get a little cloudy so I added some clarifier yesterday morning and ran the pump all day. Water was much clearer by evening and very clear this morning with no sediment visible on the bottom. After the pump kicked on the sediment quickly accumulated. I vacuumed using a...

    Debris bypassing sand filter

I replaced the sand with glass filter media this spring. I have considered the possibility that the fine dust might be algae but combined chlorine stays at 0.0 and I have not measured any decrease in chlorine by OCLT. I have several flowering crape myrtle trees near the pool and this problem...

    Debris bypassing sand filter

I have a Hayward S244T sand filter and I suspect that water and sediment is bypassing the filter. Two reasons for this: 1. Gauge pressure stays very near the clean pressure for weeks and even months without rising. 2. This morning, after the pump being off all night, the bottom of the pool...

Hi Eric. Any chance you still have the light? @DeepEndFrog

Do you still have the light? If so, I'd like it.

Very slow chlorine drop after SLAM

I SLAM'd my pool on September 9th to clear up mustard algae and it worked beautifully. The water cleared up within 24 hours and has stayed clear since. I added 8 lbs of calcium hypochlorite per Pool Math app, which brought FC up to 35 and I turned off the SWG cell but ran the pump/filter...

    Mustard Algae or Pollen?

I have been trying to get rid of some yellowish buildup in my pool for weeks. I don't know how to be sure if it's mustard algae or pollen. I put some clarifier in the water and vacuumed the entire pool and the pool looked great for a day, then the yellow stuff started to appear on the bottom of...

SWG data for TFP math input

I have a Hayward SWG GLX-Cell-15 and this model is not in the search list in the setup section of the TFP pool math app. What should I enter for 24 hour chlorine output?
