    Liner has tears

My brother had this problem on his 8 year old liner. he caulked the bad part to the wall so it was mostly waterproof and it got him through the season. it lasted several months. his liner wasn't nearly as old though.

User installed flow switch to control SWG with IntelliFlo

Re: User installed flow switch to control SWG with IntelliFl I'm thinking of putting in a flow switch with a delay off relay to shut off the pump in a no flow situation. this has been an issue twice in the last year, and I don't want to damage the pump. I was thinking of using this flow...

    Inspection - Door Alarm Advice

I live in a small community on the southern tip of Santa Clara county California. We are in the middle of a valley with hills on both sides. One day a few years ago I was working outside and I could hear sirens. Not just one or two, but 5 or 10. They passed my house and headed up the hill...

    remote control of computer

Team viewer also has a lan only mode that does not go through their servers. I am not too concerned about security, but it will be faster in lan mode.

    Gfcb/gfci breaker question.

Does it trip if you disconnect the lights? That will tell you if its the wire or the lights. I have had issues with a miswired gfci. If the neutral and ground is switched or bonded past the breaker it will trip. The neutral needs to connect to the breaker, not to the bus. Hope this helps.

    Always Check Covenants Of Neighborhood

Keep in mind i know nothing about this, but do they have any legal recourse to do anything? Can they sue you? What did you sign? What would they do if you told them to get lost? How frustrating! Sorry to hear...

Inground pool poses huge safety concern

If you do consider raising the pool depth, check with your insurance company and slide specs. I dont think you can do a slide in the shallow end, but have not checked. No slide here yet! What is the size of the shallow end? It looks small in the pics, but the pool is huge. Mine is 20x16 in...

Has anyone filled up there pool with well

I used well water. At 300gpm it was hard to say no. Im sure my iron content is high. When i filled it i didnt clean the pipe long enough and got rust in the pool. Once it filtered out it was fine. Now my pool is clean, warm, and refreshing. YMMV.

Inground pool poses huge safety concern

Please don't let your concerns sour your attitude towards your pool. You have a great pool and as long as your kids don't know you're really worried about that deep end, your kids will have a blast in it as soon as they can swim. Perhaps it's a California thing, but most people i know have...

Isn't that a light under the diving board? Or am I crazy?

Inground pool poses huge safety concern

I purchased an in ground pool off Craigslist, so my depth choices were limited. It had a 4 foot shallow end and a 10' deep end. I have kids that are 13, 6, 5, and almost 2. My best advise for you is swim lessons. Once they can swim it doesn't matter how deep it is. Our 5yo barely touches...

    Do-Over

Post some pics of the water so we can see. Is it still green or more grey? As you kill algae you will need less chlorine. For me it turns grey then gets cleaned out by the filter. Adding DE to the filter helped me a lot. I noticed a difference in hours. Brushing daily is a must i learned...

Few Questions about a diy "pool heater"

I bought used solar panels off Craigslist for $1.00 a square foot or less. I have almost 1000 sq ft of panels and the kids love it. That might be easier and cheaper than DIY.

3 year old liner has an issue

Just a comment - I bought my in ground pool used after the liner had been in storage for 5 years. I think it was outside for part of it because there were leaves inside the folds and one bad fold that I had to patch part of. However, the liner went in easy and is OK after 1 year. Who knows...

Best solution for the main drain problem

I put in my pool last year and was concerned about this, but the new vgba regs solved a lot of this. New drains require 2 drains each capable of taking the full flow, spaced a certain distance apart. They also require skid entrapment covers. I purchased something similar to this...

    Extension Cords and Filter pumps???

It's probably frowned upon to not have an outlet so close, and might not be to code, but see what other people have to say. If you do run it this way make sure the extension cord is 12 gage. 12ga wire supports up to 20 amps. Also IIRC,, the standard outlet is only good for 15 amps. There is...

Replacement pump selection for 50,000 gal inground pool

Well, I asked, and everyone said to get the smaller 2 speed Whisperflo, so that's what I'm doing! I'm going to keep the challenger pump and use it for another project - it won't go to waste. As an aside - I measured the energy usage of the pump with a my TED (The Energy Detective) and it...

Replacement pump selection for 50,000 gal inground pool

Sorry for the delay - I was out today. I primarily use 3 1 1/2" return lines, all have eyeballs on them, but i could use up to 4, and take eyeballs out of some. The filter gauge does go to 0 when the pump shuts off. The pad plumbing is all 2". The Challenger pump is a CFII-N1-1-1/2A. It...

    Pool Deck Paint?

I used tintable concrete paint from Lowes to paint a splash pad a couple years ago. They only had one kind of paint in our area. After 2 years of the kids playing on it and many thousands of gallons of water, its still in great shape. I even added the glitter you can add to make it sparkle...

Replacement pump selection for 50,000 gal inground pool

There is a $100 rebate on a VS pump from our electric provider, and it looks like it can be purchased anywhere. I am not using automation and don't plan to in the near future. The suction lines are approximately: 2" - 30' long 2" - 70' long 1.5" - 30' long There are 2 skimmers on either side...

Replacement pump selection for 50,000 gal inground pool

Thanks for the information! I was thinking about the 3/4 HP Whisperflo, but I keep dismissing the idea because the pool is so big. That being said, the pump would be plenty big enough, but I may have to run it longer if I run into water quality issues. I'll stop looking at the Superflo. Matt

Replacement pump selection for 50,000 gal inground pool

First off, thank you all for your help! I've been using this board for the last year and the information on it has been very helpful. I purchased an in ground vinyl liner pool (used off craigslist, but that's another story) and installed it August of last year. The equipment came with the...

average life span of a hot tub

I have a Marquis spa thats over 10 years old. It was indoors and used for 2-3 years, then left empty until this summer. When i started it up a couple jets poped out because their retaining ring broke. New filters, a couple new jets, some retaining rings, and new graphics for the control panel...
