Great info, Matt. Thanks a bunch for that! I'm curious now and will test the CH using the dilution method, when I have a chance to grab some distilled water.

I'm in Oro Valley. Backyard gets full sun most of the day, even in winter... and for some reason we get crazy wind at times. The pool is just over 5' at its deepest, sloping up to the stairs and Baja step. I'm guessing average depth to be around 3.5 feet when including the Baja step.

In working through the numbers to determine if there is a potential issue with plaster, I came up with the following. Maybe this helps someone else as they struggle with rising CH as well. While my fill water currently tests around 100ppm for CH, the plumber set our softener at 14 grains two...

Quick update. I triple checked CH at the house spigots, and they are all 90-110ppm. Checked an inside faucet, and the color never changed to Red, so no hardness. So outside spigots(pool) not plumbed through softener. I'm sure hardness changes through the year, but whether it's 90 in winter...

Sorry, a little slow on response, didn't see this had carried over to a second page! I'm outside the Tucson area. To Mike's point, now I'm second guessing myself on the multiplier. But wait... I know I did it right, as I used 25ml sample for fill water, and did it twice. First time 8 drops...

Sure... here are the answers: Testing fill water from the spigot where the auto fill is tee'd. Testing using K2006 CH test. Fill water at 90ppm No, the only chlorine that is used post the initial start-up two years ago is the SWG, and a total of two gallons of liquid chlorine when I had SWG...

So I just rechecked my fill water and the CH is 90ppm. So, still questioning what is causing the 2-year rise from 275 to 1125 CH, as that 90 fill water wouldn't really do it would it? We did get a lot of rain last monsoon season, but I would think that would lower it rather than raise it...

When I checked last summer it was 125 ish. I'll check again today and report back. Allen... yes good suggestion. I've updated my signature, let's see if it comes through.

Hey just thought of my last question. Could a bad plaster mix be causing the rapid rise in CH over the two years since the pool was built? Trying to figure out where else the calcium is coming from? Fill water isn't that high to drive the number up that high in just two years I don't think...

Yes, summer will be more challenging for sure. I have started to notice the dreaded white flakes in the pool last summer, so I guess the water simply can't hold any more calcium, and that may be the limiting factor more than overall balance. Thanks for the help, Marty! Allen... I'm using the...

So, what am I doing wrong with my CSI calculations, then? (Using Pool Math BTW). When I look at my numbers, I see lots of room for lowering PH, or increasing CYA to maintain a slightly negative balance when the water temps rise to the usual max of around 84 here in AZ. I am seeing some...

So, even if the water is balanced... or slightly negative like mine (-0.02 CSI), scaling can still occur with high CH?

    CH of 1125

Well... that's really the root of my question. Even though I can still easily balance the water with TA and PH within recommended range... it still isn't advised? I felt like I was missing something assuming that overall balance is the only factor, so still trying to figure out where the...

Hi All, I've been struggling with rapidly rising CH since my new pool was constructed just over two years ago. Here are my numbers: In-Ground Plaster Pool 10,000 gallons with startup date of 11/2019. I have a T-9 SWG and Hayward equipment including Acid Feeder and Sense and Dispense system...

    Arizona Dust Devil Cleanup

So... the better part of the day later and the pool is looking pretty good. I do have in-floor cleaners, but decided to leave the pump off today and cleaned it manually. I don't have a three way valve before the filter, so to your point, mknauss, no vacuum to waste option. Skimmed what I...

    Arizona Dust Devil Cleanup

Thanks for the advise... Yeah, this is the third dust devil to hit our house in the last week. Exact same path on each one, so there is some weird wind vortex causing them to hit us head on. Neighbors weren't touched by any of them, the last one being the worst and causing the damage. I may...

    Arizona Dust Devil Cleanup

Hey All, Two dust devils came through the exact same spot in our neighborhood today 2-3 hours apart, and both hit our house and yard head-on. It ripped tile shingles off the roof and deposited a bunch of sand and debris in the pool. What a mess. I don't even own a vacuum attachment, as my...

    Pool Using Lost of Acid

Thanks for all the replies and input. The pool plumber set up the pool so I can't turn the spa off unless I turn the sheer features on, which doesn't get me anywhere in the PH reduction efforts. Strange that the auto valve changes from "sheers and returns(set to off mostly)" to "floor cleaners...

    Pool Using Lost of Acid

Hi All... Newb here. Just trying to get a handle on why my pool is using so much acid. Here are my stats: Constructed in Nov 2019... so only 4 months old Pebble Sheen finish Spec from builder shows 8500 Gal pool, but there is a Spa attached with overflow that runs all the time, and pool seems...
