Keeping pool open in winter in Nashville, TN

Last year was our second winter with a pool, and we have not closed it in Clarksville, TN. The cold snap last winter was quite a scare. I kept my pump running 24/7 during that spell and covered the equipment pad with a tarp and blankets and put a couple of 100 watt bulbs underneath the tarp...

New Fiberglass install in Clarksville TN (Dig started Nov 16, 2020)

Looks great! Ours got lots of use this weekend too, and the weather was beautiful in the Queen City of the Cumberland! I saw in a previous post you mentioned that you had to raise your calcium. I did also...apparently our water here has little calcium.

I called it! I thought the concrete would fade and look fine by summer. It didn't even take that long. Your pool and deck look great.

Looking for Jandy r0446000 drain plug

In the In the panic of the cold, I lost the drain plug on my Hayward 300 heater. A replacement was about $20 online, but I found something at Lowe's that worked for $1. a 3/4 inch threaded PVC pipe plug fit perfectly. I'd try to find something locally first.

Considering SWG -- Horror Stories-- Advice?

My pH doesn't ever change. My pool just thawed out this weekend and I checked the pH for the first time in a month. It was still perfect. I can't remember the last time I added any acid. Maybe June? I bought 2 gallons after I got my pool set up a year ago and I have a gallon and a half...

    Frozen Pool Pics 🥶

Mine survived. It was up and running during the cold spell. I put a tarp and blankets over the equipment pad along with a couple of 100 watt light bulbs. I wasn't convinced it would make it, but we were fortunate and never lost power. Came through like a champ. Today I brushed, ran the...

Help Needed - Freeze Protect Failed and Above Ground Lines are Frozen.

I actually did that too......set up a tarp and blankets over my equipment and put a couple of 100 watt light bulbs under it. I had been relying on freeze protection but I also had the pump programmed to run at about 2000 rpm during the night. The freeze protect went off after the equipment...

Few days of below freezing temp. What to do?

I'm in the same boat here in Clarksville, Tenn, albeit without the power outage. It has not been above freezing here since last Wednesday. We are not hitting single digits, but have been around 15 at night and 20 during the day recently. I think we are looking at 12 degrees tonight...

New Fiberglass install in Clarksville TN (Dig started Nov 16, 2020)

I bet if you lightly acid wash it and let it sit, by summer it will look fine. I'm no expert, but that's my guess. Mine was a little splotchy and had some light/dark spots at first, and now, 1 year later, it is pretty uniform. I'll see if I can scare up photos. If the problem is the...

Heating for Christmas - how long

How fast does it heat under more normal circumstances? Mine normally heats about 3 degrees per hour, but I figured it would be a bit slower with the ground and air so cold. I ended up not heating mine, as the high temp on Christmas Eve was low 30s and windy. My 15 year old did a polar...

How I cool down my Pool

I got one last summer and liked it. My pool was on the cusp of being too warm, so I sacrificed one of my 3 returns and put this sprayer on it. The water never got too warm, the family liked the water spray and the sound of it, and it only cost me $24. I can't say scientifically if it...

    Dolphin S200 and smart switch

Some time ago there was a post on here about how to set your Dolphin's power supply to enable it to be controlled by a smart switch. That is, set it so each time power is applied to the Dolphin, it would run for a 2 hour cycle, then turn off. I cannot find this post, but would like to set...

Heating for Christmas - how long

I've been thinking about doing the same.....my pool will warm about 3 degrees per hour in the spring. I too am curious about how much longer it would take with the ground cold and air temp in the 30-40 range. Keep us posted!

New Fiberglass install in Clarksville TN (Dig started Nov 16, 2020)

We are in no-mans land for grass here in TN. It's really too hot for fescue unless you can water the heck out of it, and it's too cool for Bermuda/Zoysia. The Bermuda really doesn't come in great until late May, and then it dies out in mid October.

They don't sub it.....they do it on their own. Mine had a color added and it was a little streaky and blotchy until it dried for a few days. After a few days it was a very uniform shade. That could have been the case there also, or maybe not.
