the piece with the 4 screws is what I'm referring to

Hi, I have inground pool with this type of setup for return. The screw in cover the prongs broke so cant unscrew. I removed screws. Does the piece that's screwed in also threaded? It did not release when screws were out. If its threaded how do you remove it? Thanks
