Alright so I started the SLAM process. Will do first FC test after 30 minutes but is it normal for the pool to be foaming just a bit. It is only in the hot tub part and it isn't a whole lot. I used HDX liquid chlorine from Home Depot. it is 10% Sodium Hypochlorite

Also do you have a general idea of how many gallons of liquid chlorine I should have on hand for the SLAM process (I currently have 15 gallons) and will a new 10g bottle of R-0870 and a new 22ml bottle of R-0871 be enough?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY FUN LOL?!?!? According to the pool math, with a FC of 0.4 and a target of 28 it says that I should add 7 gallons. In pool school it says to test once an hour. Should I be testing more often than that? I know I am not ready to add liquid chlorine yet but when I do, where it...

FC test 0.4, CC test 0.6, TA 110, CH 510, CYA 70, pH was above 8.0 but didn't seem to be by much so I used 9.0 in my pool math app

    New pool owner

Okay so before I begin to SLAM the pool I need to bring my pH level down. I have tested and put my numbers into the pool math app. It says I need 3 quarts of muriatic acid. how should I dispense the acid. Would it be best to pour it into the skimmer or just directly into the pool? How long...

What about using a calcium hardness reducer?

    New pool owner

Alright so I am back with another question! Thank you all for being so helpful. I did a full set of tests on my pool and my calcium hardness is at 510!!!! What is my best course of action? I am assuming that replacing water is the best solution but we have really hard water where I live so is...

we are getting a pretty good amount of rain but I think that draining a foot of water should do it. I drained 2 feet (approx. 6,000 gallons) of water before the rain and it dropped my CYA by about 40%

    New pool owner

I don't have a low volume sump pump so will draining and replacing water be okay?

    New pool owner

I do not mind exchanging more water. Do you have a suggestion on how much water to exchange this go around?

    New pool owner

I do need to SLAM because we have algae
  19. McClain14

    New pool owner

Okay so I refilled the pool and I checked our water meter before and after and I replaced about 6 thousand gallons of water. I let the pump run for about 12 hours and then tested the CYA. I got a reading of 70. Will this be good for starting the SLAM process or should I replace more water?

Our house and pool sit on top of a hill so no water sits in the yard. I will do a little research and see if I can find any publications of the water table in our area.

    New pool owner

I don't believe our water table is very high (at least that is what a few people have said but who knows). How do I determine the water table in my area? Water cost are not too high so that is a good thing!

Okay thank you so much for your help! We are suppose to be getting quite a bit of rain over the next couple of days so I am worried about draining to much water at a time. Is this something I should be worried about?

When I tested before draining my level was at the bottom of the black line on my test tube. I didn't do the test with tap water because I didn't see that until someone posted it above.

The first ti The first time I drained the water I only drained about a foot of water. This time around I drained almost 2 feet of water. I am now refilling it so I can recheck the CYA level.

Thank you so much! I have been so worried that I have scrub the walls of my pool 3-4 per day while it is draining!

    New pool owner

I refilled the pool a few days ago and was able to get a reading of way over 100ppm on the CYA. I have been told numerous times to drain more water so we are currently in the process of doing that. However I am worried that the CYA is stuck to the walls and will just be reabsorbed when we refill...

    New pool owner

Hey guys! thanks for all the info you have given me. I do have another question. I was told that I need to scrub the walls of my pool as I am draining it because the CYA can stick to the walls and cause the levels to remain high. Is this true?

Thank you I will order those now. I drained a foot of water from the pool and I am now refilling it so I can use my test kit tomorrow. I am sure I will be back with more questions Thank you so so much for your help.

Okay while I work on getting all the info for my signature I just wanted to let you all know that I ordered the K2006 test. I was told that the C just meant the kit include bigger bottles of reagents? I have been told the pool is made of gunite.
