    Evaporation rates

After a long weekend of patching the liner I might have the leak either stopped or slowed way down. I’m down to losing about an 1/8 during the day and a 1/4 at night. Haven’t had time to do the bucket test because of a busy weekend. Hopefully it’s just evaporation now. Plan on contacting a pool...

    Evaporation rates

I plan on redoing a bucket test and just letting the water drop till the water loss slows down.

    Evaporation rates

Not that I’m aware of. Now the 500-600 might of been a slight exaggeration ?. I think I figured it one day that 2 inches in our pool is about 600 gallons. That would be over a couple days if I would not fill pool. Our pool is surrounded by a deck and rock so it is hard to tell. I feel like I...

    Evaporation rates

I should note that I know my skimmer has a slight leak. When I mean slight I am talking about a drip every 10-30 sec. I feel like that doesn’t add up to almost 500-600 gallons a day of water loss.

    Evaporation rates

10-4 I have tried that with mixed results. Sometimes the pool looses more and some times the bucket seems to. It rained hard enough a couple weeks ago to fill the pool up to the top of the skimmer. It was cloudy and cooler for 3 days and it showed no sign of water loss. Within 2 days of sunshine...

    Evaporation rates

I have been noticing some random water levels drops throughout this summer. Being new to the pool thing I was just wondering how much evaporation is considered normal. Some days I can loose almost an inch or more. Other days I could loose less than an 1/8 of and inch. So far this week I have had...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Temps have been in the low 50s to low 60s so I’m sure the colder weather isn’t helping algae growth.

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

I’m trying to slam, but with work and my crazy schedule and Mother Nature the last 3 days it’s been hard to keep the FC high. Still no test kit... (suppose to have arrived today). I’m relying on my strips and so far I assume everything ok. Ph dropped to 7.2 today from 7.8. We received 3.5 inches...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

When I woke up this morning pool water was clear and I could see the bottom well? Weird I know. I bit the bullet and let pump run the 4 hours today while I was at work. No problems, but filter was pretty dirty. Never went over 5psi higher than normal. I’m assuming since I switched to using...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Sounds good. I just don’t understand why they would label it as filter sand. I believe everything that you have said. That’s why I’m wondering if the sand over time is setting down around the lateral to tightly. A guy I work with used the same sand last year with no problems. So I’m just between...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Yes I haven’t seem much sand settling in my pool, but on the other hand I can’t really see the bottom. ? I feel like if it was a sand issue I would have already figured that out. If anyone else had input on a 20/40 mix instead of #20 feel free.

Sorry it was actually 2 bags of Tech-Mix sand and one bag of the all star. I have a little of both left over in my bucket and they look identical besides the color.

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Just a little of both. Didn’t know if that why it’s getting gummed up so quick. I put a woman’s knee high in the skimmer and it was full of Crud within minutes. I’m thinking the pool is just full of junk and that’s why its clogging up the filter so quick. It’s been running for almost an hour and...

Ok one more dumb question and I swear I’ll leave everyone alone. The sand I installed in my filter is a 20/40 mix. The specs on the sand are .42-.89mm in size. My sand filter spec is .45-.55. Is this an issue you think? I attached a picture of the pump and sand filter for reference.

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

test kit is ordered and pressure gauge has been replaced. Running 10 psi clean. Still clogging up about every 1-2 hours. Only was able to run the filter for about 4 hours yesterday due to not being able to babysit the filter all day. I have added 1.5 gallon of 6% until test kit arrives. I will...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Sand filter is a top valve system. All the hoses are flexible lines and I never even thought of installing them. Skimmer line I can just install the vacuum hose and leave it on the deck. The return jet I’m not sure how to plug it so water does run out ?

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Could air somehow be getting trapped in the top of my sand filter? My filter is under my deck below the water line. As I was just under my deck inspecting everything I just realized I did not install any valves on the skimmer or return. So doing any repairs of my pump or sand filter are not an...

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

The gauge was in my garage all winter, but is reading around 2-3 psi when the pump is off. As the pressure goes up on the gauge the flow of water out of the jet is less noticeable. I just assumed it was working correctly. Maybe I need to grab a gauge when I order the test kit.

    Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Found something out that was interesting. I left to grab some dinner and I was gone for a couple hours. Shut the pump off when i left and the pump was reading around 18-19 psi. When I got back home and fired everything back up the gauge was reading at 12-13 psi. That reading is what I found to...
