The gauge of the copper wire itself is 18. It was larger than 20, but smaller than 16. 18 was perfect.

I just tried to use two long allen keys that were place in holes along the edge and to push pull on them simultaneously to dislodge it. One hole broke. maybe I'll try a dremel to cut it out ? the green part is sticking out slightly on the lateral view (hard to see that in the picture above).
