    Water Loss

I'm in my first summer season with the new pool and having way more water loss than I was planning. I think the problem is that we've had little rain and have been consistently between 95-100 for weeks (with no end in sight) Is there anything I can do to mitigate this? Has anyone used the...

    Saving Frogs & Skimming Water

This is also an elegant solution. That said, our covers are integrated into the stamped concrete, so replacements would not have the same aesthetic impact.

    Wifi at pool area

I'll concur with Geebot on the ORBI products. I have a 3-unit ORBI network in the house and have no problem with wifi throughout the yard and pool area.

Brilliant :) Thank you. Are hair nets basically all the same size and all good to go?

    Saving Frogs & Skimming Water

I'm about to place an order for 3 frog ramps for my in-ground pool. They always seem thrilled to be rescued, but I hate if I ever miss them. I'm also thinking about a couple of skimmer add-ons and want to know if there are pros or cons to either. Vortex Skimmer basket: I'd like to have more...

    Poolside Plants

This might be a good plan. The last time we did this, we got stuck with someone who wouldn't furnish the plan if we didn't use them to execute it. We'll be more careful if we go this way again. I'm totally on board with this. I'm a fan of xeriscaping: low maintenance, perennial, self...

    Poolside Plants

I wholly agree with the analogy. And it would offer “some” privacy, but the height of the houses and decks mean that neighbors would likely still see into the pool proper. Good idea, though.

    Poolside Plants

I'm honestly unsure what cover any planting will provide. I can stand on the deck for the 2nd house over (and probably the first and others) and look directly at the surface of the pool.

    Poolside Plants

It would be convenient to have a space that guests can use without going into the house. I also like the idea of providing a path of less resistance to a restroom.

We are liking your little building! We have to one step at a time some things with the HOA, but that would be a good add. Is the area with the door a plumbed room or a storage room?

    Poolside Plants

Surprisingly, I haven't seen dandelions in my current neighborhood. We used to have tons in Massachusetts where I grew up. Supposedly there is a great tea to be had, but I've never tried it. I'm very conscious of this. Having experienced fall, I'm even enthusiastic about getting plants that...

    Poolside Plants

I can prep some pics once the rain stops... hopefully in the next day or so. Definitely perennial. I'm not a gardener and would rather not plant season after season. I'm also not opposed to evergreen with soft leaves. Privacy is immaterial. I have neighbors with 2nd and 3rd story decks...

    Poolside Plants

We installed our pool in the fall with a large stamped concrete patio and a retaining wall. On 3 sides of the patio (those without the wall) we have about 2' of mulch surrounding the patio. I'm looking for recommendations for best plants and shrubbery for this area. We live in NC, so while we...

First Cold Season & Chlorine Tablets / Salt Pool

I guess I need to run a new test. Total newbie here. We just had a major repair and stopped heating for the season. My vendor does testing with the expectation of buying chemicals with them. Is it hard to do personal testing that is as effective? They seem to run theirs through a computer...

First Cold Season & Chlorine Tablets / Salt Pool

We are starting to have days that have highs in the mid-50s and lows in the 40s. When should I drop the first chlorine tablet?

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

The whole liner came out and was reused. I don't see any flaws in the liner. The primary repair was in the deep end with a major crack repaired. They resealed the whole of the pool though, and smoothed out the bumps and divots that had formed.

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

Finally had the repair. The primary concrete needed to be redone. They used a different type to hold back ground water. Looks better now, hoping it will hold. Of course it turns out they didn't install enough drains or returns for our setup, but that's not something that can be easily remedied.

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

Thank you, that's what I was suspecting. On the one hand, at least it's still their problem. On the other hand, if they don't think to re-order the vinyl before starting, we may be looking at a concrete hole again for some weeks. I just want it right. I appreciate your help James, and I'm...

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

Thank you again. We are definitely "not right". I got in again last night with the goggles and there has been more deterioration in the last 24 hours along the bottom and even on the opposite side from the major issue. I suspect the contractor for the final phase of the project didn't do what...

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

Thank you, James, for your feedback. My understanding is that they will empty the pool and remove or partially remove the liner to repair. My bigger concerns are these: Will the repair take or will this problem persist and Are the other "imperfections" indicative of a problem. I don't care...

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

This is a brand new pool, the dig started in August. They did not hit water nor was water apparent to them when they did the initial dig. We dropped 2 feet with a retaining wall and then another 8 feet for the deep end. For a few weeks the concrete was in optimal weather conditions. Then we...

    Repairing pool immediately upon finish

We opened our pool yesterday, but not before finding that the concrete in the deep end has already collapsed. Pool company is claiming that there must be a water source beneath. They intend to repair in a few weeks, but I want to be sure that they do what they need to do and we don't have a...
