The correct number is actually there, the cell it's in just isn't big enough to display the whole thing. You can see the number by hovering over and looking at the Detail box to the right of Temperature.

Why/how the pool techs could clean my pool in 15 minutes?!

No, the shock level is determined BY the CYA level. Pool size determines how much chlorine you'll need to actually get to that level.

At What FC Level Does the pH Measurement Become Inaccurate, and in Which Direction?

This gets me thinking about doing some experiments. Does anyone know in what volume of water would a single drop of 8.25% bleach increase the FC by 1ppm? This is assuming it really IS 8.25%. I understand varying strength is inevitability. Also, ChemGeek if you're following, did anything ever...

Why/how the pool techs could clean my pool in 15 minutes?!

Agreed regarding the ultimate goal is getting that deepest pink color, but how do you know you actually have the deepest pink until you've saturated the solution?

Why/how the pool techs could clean my pool in 15 minutes?!

Like other's have mentioned, using "too much" powder does NOT cause invalid FC results, it just wastes powder. On the other hand, for high FC levels, if you don't use ENOUGH powder it will indeed produce an invalid result. You know you've added the ideal amount of reagent powder when there is...

At What FC Level Does the pH Measurement Become Inaccurate, and in Which Direction?

I can only guess, but either: a) The effectiveness of the chlorine neutralizing agent in Taylor's pH test varies. Sometimes it may be able to neutralize FC levels slightly above 10ppm, other times not, depending on the batch? b) Taylor's neutralizing agent is "new and improved." It's now...

Need help balancing water for daughter's birthday party in 2 days

Ok. It doesn't look like your pH is budging. This is probably due to the Borates in that bucket of opening chemicals they gave you. With Borates, pH changes take larger quantities of chemicals. If we use a 13,000 gallon estimate, pH 6.8 and a TA of 120, even without Borates, you'll need...

Click PoolMath at the top. Scroll down to the bottom to "Estimating Pool Volume." Select "Round" and enter 24' wide and 4.08' (49"/12) deep. That should give you a reasonable estimate of your pool's volume.

Discrepancies in Levels for SWG Free Chlorine Numbers

I was more concerned about the "Target" goal which is showing as 10 FC for 70 CYA, when the chart is only showing 5.

Discrepancies in Levels for SWG Free Chlorine Numbers

The suggested FC levels in my Graphical Testing log are based on those found in PoolMath. It seems there's a slight discrepancy between PoolMath and the CYA/Chlorine chart. I wonder if PoolMath and my spreadsheet should be adjusted to more closely follow the chart?

Need help balancing water for daughter's birthday party in 2 days

What we know: You're using a copper based mineral system that calls for adding chemicals bi-weekly. Despite it being called "Perma Salt," no salt is used and it does not generate chlorine. You added a product called Perma Salt "Preparate" at opening which contained Borates, CYA and an unknown...

    Minimum Calcium Needed

You can see "BBB" mentioned in several of their PoolSchool articles so it seems like they have copied articles directly from TFP in the past. They even have a link to the old PoolCalculator.com there. Edit: Upon looking more, it looks like they've "borrowed" quite a bit, almost the entire Pool...

Actual Cl concentration in bleach and shock?

ChemGeek: I'm updating some formulas in my spreadsheet's Liquid Chlorine Cost calculator and I'm getting a discrepancy with the calculated 8.41% Trade by Volume shown below in red. My calculations are coming up with 8.64%. 8.25 * (70.906/74.442) * 1.10 = 8.644 Am I missing something?

    Reading CYA test

That video isn't very helpful. It actually shows a few things wrong: 1. It shows him standing FACING the sun. You should have your back to the sun. 2. It shows him reading the tube that is sitting on a white surface. It should be at waist level not sitting on anything. 3. He is...

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

His son is having a birthday party at the beginning of August so I have one more chance. I'll see what I can find out then. As far as the test results go, they don't actually show the customer the results at all. They just tell the customer what they "need." You guys had me second guessing...

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

The sample did turn green, with a hint of blue when first adding the indicator dye. Each drop added slowly changed the green to a grey/silver. Then it slowly started moving from grey/silver to slightly pink at 60 drops. I used the same reagents today on my pool and got the same 70 I always...

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

I agree and that's why I tested it multiple times. He was replacing large quantities of water due to his previous DE filter needing backwashed daily. That explains the low stabilizer. He did say the pool store told him to add 10 lbs of stabilizer, but he hadn't done it yet.

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

When I told him Alkalinity Up was baking soda, we compared how much he was paying at the pool store. He's paying 3x's what he could be paying for baking soda. He was not happy about the price, but even more angry about the fact that they were making him add it in the first place with the...

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

He uses trichlor tablets, so I don't think he's ever used acid. I tested the pH and TA twice, the pH was probably closer to 6.6. The TA test was very unusual because each drop changed the color very little. The sample spent most of the time being that in between silver/grey color with only...

Friend pool stored, TA through the roof!

My family and I went to a pool party today for my son's soccer team. The home owner was complaining about how he just replaced his DE filter with a sand filter because the pressure would max out after a day or two and need back washed and recharged. My thought was latent algae but the filter...

SWG's bubbles; contents and dissolution vs flow rate?

I can't stop thinking about how a SWG could do more if it's output was modified. If the relatively high FC water stream could be held in temporary storage for a few seconds before returning to the pool volume, this would result in an almost continuous near shock situation in that chamber. It...

CC zero - is that a good thing?

You may want to work on gradually getting your TA down. It's a little higher than what's recommended for SWG pools.
  27. JesseWV

CC zero - is that a good thing?

Combined Chloramine (CC) is something you DON'T want, so a reading of zero is great. In a balanced and properly chlorinated pool you might see 0.5 CC the morning after a heavy bather load, before the sun has had time to break them down.

    Added Conditioner AND Phosfree

Earlier you mentioned there was a green tint to the water. That means algae. It needs to be 100% destroyed or it will just continue to multiply and eat up chlorine as fast as your SWG and tablets put it in. I know you say you don't plan doing the SLAM process, but realistically you might...

    Added Conditioner AND Phosfree

If someone hasn't already mentioned it, using the chlorine tablet feeder will also raise your CYA and lower your pH. As the 5 tablets dissolve, assuming they're 8 oz and your pool is 35k gal, it will add about 5 ppm CYA and lower your pH by 0.4. For completing the SLAM process, we...
