Ohio weather doesn’t stop this company

This is how splash and play pools, in Thornville Ohio, installs a new liner in Ohio’s crazy warm/cold weather. (Not my pool) thought it was cool wanted to share.

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

With a solid cover you won’t get much water going in the pool to fill it up. If it’s going to be weeks before you get the cover on then yea, I’d probably go 20”. I’m sure my pool has frozen before when the return was right where yours is now with the water level. Hopefully someone else will...

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

I’m not familiar with a solid cover. What water level is recommended for the solid cover ?

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

I take mine about 2 “ below the rim cover on the returns. I definitely wouldn’t go any lower than that. I’m lazy and don’t want to pump out later in the winter. That puts me approximately 20” below the pool deck, loop loc covers shouldn’t be any lower then 18” below the deck. I typically get...

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

Ideally since you live in a freezing area I would drain it more so you’re not draining as often. BE VERY CAREFUL about busting up the ice you could puncture the liner . The ice being disturbed could cause the ice to shift side to side or up and down???? If it was mine I’d hang loose until it...

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

The blue thing is a gizmo it is screwed into the skimmer hole. It is meant to keep water from entering the skimmer pipes and also to prevent the water, when frozen to not expand and crack/break the skimmer. The pool noodles add that extra layer of protection and the antifreeze helps to keep...

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

I add pool antifreeze to the skimmer and pack it full of cut up pool noodles. Water will get in the skimmer- the gizmo is supposed to prevent breakage from a freeze, but I’m overly cautious.

Winterization in December (Michigan) and pool cover options.

I live in Ohio and I keep my water level below the returns. My returns are plugged with screw in caps. I have a loop loc, mesh safety cover and they recommend the water be no more then 18” below the pool deck. I check it periodically in the winter and pump water out as needed. Careful as you...

I remove mine and also install expandable plugs. I figure This is the one time per year I get to inspect it for calcium buildup.

I didn’t think about the deer! My back yard is fenced in so they really can’t get in. I have tied bars of Irish spring soap to limbs about 3-4 feet from the ground for my other plants in the front yard. That seemed to really work. I have deer in my front yard nightly.

These were planted 8 years ago. They were 3’ tall when planted. After the first year of getting established, that’s when the growth rate started around 3’ per year. They are approximately 25’- 30’ tall now.

    The clouds will not part...

When I have issues like that I turn off the skimmer valve and only have the bottom drain on and brush the “poofs-crud” towards the bottom drains. I don’t do this though if there are any large pieces like leaves or bugs etc…. Seems to help me!

    Trimming grass edging Suggestions

A GOOD landscaping mat and river rock-done! When leaves etc get in the rock it blows out nicely with a blower. I loved the look of the grass, but it was way too much work.

Do you mind me asking who you used for the liner install ? Sounds like you had good luck with them! I’m east of Columbus about 30 miles- I like accumulating references before the time comes for me. Thanks!

    Tricks for dissolving CYA

I use old pair of panty hose, set it inside a leaf net with pole attached. Kinda balance the pole so it doesn’t fall in, get the net in front of a return, but not against the vinyl. Leave it be, squish it, leave it be, squish it….repeat. If I’m in a hurry I’ll sit on the side of the pool and...

I get them after heavy rains in the summer too. They don’t accumulate as much during the summer I suppose because I’m quick to throw in the robot after every rain.
