We've got an older in-ground pool (guessing put in sometime in the early 90's) and the main steps into the pool seem to be getting a little brittle. The other day I noticed a hole about the size of a dime that I'm guessing is now leaking water, so I'm curious...what do I use to fill that hole...

Still no go. Tried a few times and the humming eventually stops after I've smacked it, but I can't tell if the humming stops because I'm hitting it or because it just shuts itself off.

I was able to turn the impeller, but how "free" is it supposed to be? It didn't just readily spin with the flick of my finger. It only turned if I pushed on it.

I vacuumed the pool without issue, then turned off the pump to clean out the pump basket. I then closed it back up and tried to turn the pump back on and just got a feint hum for a 10 seconds or so, then it went completely silent. Any ideas what might be going on? It's a Hayward 3/4 HP Super Pump.

Probably 20-30 minutes. And I didn't check the impeller, but like I mentioned, the clog is independent of the pump. All my declogging attempts (and failures) were between the skimmer/main drain and the input into the pump housing.

Thanks Ted. I'm also really interested in stuff for when we aren't out there (like that alarm, or something of the sort). I'm not as concerned about when we're out there and able to extend a pole or jump in to help, but more so if our kid or the neighbors somehow sneak in without anybody around.

What are some good things to have for keeping our pool safe for our kids (and the neighbor's kids)? Our pool is fenced in separately from the rest of our yard, so that's a good step, but should we get some sort of alarm device or something for if our kid or our neighbor's kid somehow sneak in...

The problem is, I can't see the dead stuff. I brush it all to the center of the pool (where the main drain is) and it's too cloudy to actually see where I'm vacuuming.
