How to fix this leaky pipe?

If I use a sealant...won't that mean it's permanently threaded into the pump?

How to fix this leaky pipe?

Yesterday I replace my pump. All seemed to go well until I noticed water pooling at the bottom of it. Turns out the culprit is where the water leaves the pump to go to the filter. Where the PVC pipe screws into the pump, it's leaking. I wrapped the threads in plumbers tape and tightened is...

How to fill hole in steps?

We've got an older in-ground pool (guessing put in sometime in the early 90's) and the main steps into the pool seem to be getting a little brittle. The other day I noticed a hole about the size of a dime that I'm guessing is now leaking water, so I'm curious...what do I use to fill that hole...

    Smoking Hayward Pump

So earlier this week my Hayward pump stopped pumping (just made a humming sound then turned off). I ordered a new capacitor and just installed it. I then turned the pump on and sure enough, it started pumping. But then I realized about 30 seconds later that I had forgotten to prime the pump and...

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

Also, how do I know if the capacitor is bad? Here's a photo under the proverbial hood of my pump:

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

Still no go. Tried a few times and the humming eventually stops after I've smacked it, but I can't tell if the humming stops because I'm hitting it or because it just shuts itself off.

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

Yeah. It's humming again, but doesn't start.

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

Yeah, it does. So...still not sure what might be going on.

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

I was able to turn the impeller, but how "free" is it supposed to be? It didn't just readily spin with the flick of my finger. It only turned if I pushed on it.

Hayward Super Pump won't turn on

I vacuumed the pool without issue, then turned off the pump to clean out the pump basket. I then closed it back up and tried to turn the pump back on and just got a feint hum for a 10 seconds or so, then it went completely silent. Any ideas what might be going on? It's a Hayward 3/4 HP Super Pump.

    Sealing light casing hole?

So I've had pretty major water loss (1-2" per day) since we got our pool up and running this year (bought the house, had to replace the liner) and after doing a bit of investigating, I found that the hole in the back of our underwater light casings (we have two lights) where the cord for the...

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

Had my local pool guy come by with some better equipment and ultimately seems there was just a ton of air in the pipes. We spent about an hour blowing out air and doing different combinations of opening/closing pipes to clear out the air and get water flowing. So...seems we're good now, and the...

    Water evaporation rate?

I know there are dozens of factors that play in to how much water evaporates from a pool, but ours just seems high. On average, it seems we're loosing about 1" per day (that's on non-swimming days, so it's not due to splash-out). Various bits of info that may or may not be pertinent: * Water...

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

Haha, I've actually been wondering if a snake or something got in the pipes. Can't imagine how, but those things are sneaky.

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

Probably 20-30 minutes. And I didn't check the impeller, but like I mentioned, the clog is independent of the pump. All my declogging attempts (and failures) were between the skimmer/main drain and the input into the pump housing.

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

See my original post...that's exactly what I did. I referred to it as a "bladder" though.

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

I guess I didn't explain myself well. I'm forcing water from the skimmer to the pump housing...and no water is making it through. This is pure PVC piping, all before any actual moving pump parts are hit. I'm also forcing water from inside the pump housing towards the skimmer (not into the...

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

But how would that explain no water passing through the pipes? I was forcing water through with the pump off and the pump cover off and there was no water coming through.

No water coming through pipes...I'm stumped

Short story: No water is coming through the skimmer or main drain pipes...nothing at all and I can't figure out why. Longer story... Went out of town on Saturday morning. Pool was pumping fine. I run my pump 24/7, and made sure the water level was high so that we wouldn't loose too much while...

    Safety equipment?

Thanks Ted. I'm also really interested in stuff for when we aren't out there (like that alarm, or something of the sort). I'm not as concerned about when we're out there and able to extend a pole or jump in to help, but more so if our kid or the neighbors somehow sneak in without anybody around.

    Safety equipment?

What are some good things to have for keeping our pool safe for our kids (and the neighbor's kids)? Our pool is fenced in separately from the rest of our yard, so that's a good step, but should we get some sort of alarm device or something for if our kid or our neighbor's kid somehow sneak in...

    Safe FC level to swim?

Wouldn't my shock level, based on my CYA, be 10-12? Making my FC of 16 a bit too high?

    Safe FC level to swim?

We've been on a two week journey of shocking our pool and now that it's nearly 100 degrees, the family is ready to swim (plus, my wife is wanting to have a pool party in a couple of days). So now that our pool is clear, what is a safe FC level to swim at? Here are my current test results: FC...

Have been shocking for 10 days now...won't clear up

The problem is, I can't see the dead stuff. I brush it all to the center of the pool (where the main drain is) and it's too cloudy to actually see where I'm vacuuming.

Have been shocking for 10 days now...won't clear up

10 days ago our pool was a nice thick green. Now, it's no longer green, it's just cloudy. I can see about 3-4 feet down. I've kept the pool at an FC shock level of 12 for 10 days now and it just doesn't seem to be clearing up at all. Here are my test levels as of this morning: FC - 9 CC - 0...

    Possible skimmer issue?

Should the suction on my vacuum be really obvious? I can feel a small amount of suction, but not much, and it certainly doesn't seem to be sucking up anything. I'm wondering if there's some sort of clog in my skimmer line. If I'm running my filter and shut off the main drain, looking through...
