Trying to get the CYA under control.

Impressive. I’d backwash and add the correct amount of de to your filter now.

    Taking over pool care

No worries, I’m very much in the mulling it over phase. If CH goes below 200 I’ll bump it up a bit mainly to make it easy to keep CSI neutral. I know it’s not strictly necessary for vinyl pools but I’m a bit of a perfectionist and neutral CSI has benefits for all the pool equipment as well.

    First timer!

If there is any kind of automated tablet chlorine feeder in your system, open it up and remove the tablets. That CYA is coming from somewhere

    Taking over pool care

The only reason I’m thinking about the CH is that someone posted earlier that the zeosand media works best with CH around 250. I’m going to try to switch the filter back to sand next year so I can add a little DE and really polish the water

TF100 the best test kit?? what accessories?

I have the speedstir on my wishlist. Swirling by hand has gotten old. The sample sizer would be a nice to have as well

Is this an ok submersible water pump to buy?

I have a sand filter so when we get a bunch of rain I break out the MA and backwash the filter with the free water

    Taking over pool care

Today’s results FC 13.5 CC 0 pH 7.6 TA 100 CH 210 CYA not tested, last reading 100 I’m considering using some cal-hypo for a bit to bring CH up to 300ish, otherwise, water is clear, pH is reasonably stable and I’m only using 1-3ppm FC per day depending on bather load

    AZ Dust Storms

I’d go with a cover. Don’t let the dust get in

    Getting 16fc loss over 24hrs

Temperature, more of the water catching UV. If you push to 60 CYA it should help. I’d do an OCLT first though

    Taking over pool care

Any downside to keeping FC around 20? CYA 100 obviously I’ll lose a bit more chlorine daily, but I have stains, and little kids that are probably peeing in the pool... I also have some staining of the liner I’d like to clear up

    Heating a 12'x30" pool

Solar panels are cheapest once they are installed, combined with your cover they should be good for 10F rise.

    The rate of chlorine decay

Yes. 40CYA will reduce your daytime losses

Pool hasn't been opened in 5 years

Put the filter in recirculate mode and check everything for leaks, probably no CYA in there but there may be ammonia. you need to source a lot of bleach and be prepared to add huge amounts at the beginning. Get the TF-100 with the XL option continue to get all the leaves and sludge out...

2gal of 10% bleach/day...Does this seem like too much?

Bump CYA to 60 and monitor. It should help

My niece had a poop accident. I raised to SLAM level of 39ppm, how long should I hold it?

    I really despise pH testing.

I measure my MA but not super precisely. As long as the amount is within an ounce or three of what poolmath tells me, I add it.

SLAM and adding FC twice a day

This is true, and we have a lock on our pool deck for this reason. However, man can always be counted on to exert with vigor, his god-given right to be stupid. the point was that liquid chlorine is hazardous and precautions must be taken.

SLAM and adding FC twice a day

The trick is how do you keep little kids away from the fascinating new toy the pool guy was playing with.... oh neat.... caustic burns.... lawsuits... having young nephews has given me a new appreciation for the suicidal tendencies of the 4-year old human. so, how do you make such a rig safe...

    Algae in pump basket

I’d bring the pool to SLAM level and brush everything really well, but I’m quite paranoid about the green stuff.

    Taking over pool care

It’s on my list of stuff I would like to do. The water is crystal clear so getting the owners (parents) to sign off on replacing the filter media will be a hard sell. im going to do a full suite of tests tomorrow I’m hoping for a cya of 100.

Trying to prepare for pool in Round Rock, TX

Another vote for the SWG. If I had the Capital I’d add one to my pool right now. Once you get one adjusted to your pool you’ll only need to add chlorine right before the big pool party.

Tabs aren't bringing up my CYA

Trying to get the CYA under control.

Yep, SLAM away, and after it’s done keep your FC a couple ppm higher. Bather load will suck up chlorine. You probably dipped down into the danger zone for FC and now algae is trying to get started again.

    What is BBB

You need to SLAM your pool To properly SLAM you need either the Taylor K-2006C or the TFT100 test kit. You need the FAS-DPD chlorine test to accurately measure up to 50ppm chlorine We also don’t trust pool store measurements here. You need to get the kit and test the water yourself. Post the...
