Question... I also have green (dead algae) at the bottom of my pool. Why wouldn't vacuuming be the first thing to do prior to adding chlorine or cya? I figure get rid of as much of the solid material as possible first before adding chemicals.

I know what you are talking about. I have the same problem. I assume it's dead algae. I usually try to vacuum it when it's on the floor. But it raises to the surface and creates a cloud. I'm still fighting.

I was using Calcium Hypochlorite for to add chlorine initially. Last week I switched to Dichlor because the CYA was low. I also was always vacuuming. I guess the loss and replacement of water caused the CYA to drop.

With the CC, the solution goes clear after one drop. I know .5 is more ideal. But then after a minute or so, itll turn a very very faint pink. So I factor in an additional drop.
