    Hidden algae

When I removed the ladder, I noticed many holes in the ladder. Water drained out of these holes as I lifted it out of the water. I also know that the legs are filled with sand because I filled them with sand last year (per the instructions) before putting it into the pool. I can take the ladder...

    Hidden algae

You’re correct about the FC/CYA. I had at one time measured the CYA to be 25 because I didn’t know at that time that you weren’t suppose to use in between numbers. I have since read up a lot about how to correctly do that test. Anyways, at that time I had rounded up to 30 and decided I would use...

    Hidden algae

I just saw this and didn’t know that was an issue. Thank you. How long do I leave it out for? And do I scrub it down with a diluted bleach solution? I also threw all of our goggles and stuff in the pool over a week or so ago. I make sure to move them around the bottom of the pool with the brush...

    Hidden algae

on June 1st after dark, my FC was 18. At 5 am on June 2nd (about 35 minutes prior to sunrise but not completely dark outside) my FC was 16. So I lost 2ppm. you don’t have to read this link because it’s long, but here was my first post about this problem this year: Fighting mustard algae I...

    Hidden algae

I keep the pump running 24/7 on low. So there shouldn’t be any still water. I haven’t done the OCLT in a while because I still see signs of algae. But does it matter if I do the OCLT at 5ppm or 20ppm? (My CYA was 20 last time I checked.) I have the app, but during SLAM, I found it easier to...

    Hidden algae

Yes I have a ladder in the water. I keep the pump running on low 24/7. I thought if there was any algae, I should leave the ladder in during the process so that the chlorine could kill it. There’s also a small mat underneath the ladder to protect the liner.

    Hidden algae

I’m not sold on having to brush all places that might have algae. For instance, I can’t brush inside the skimmer, the inside of the flex hoses going from pool to pump, hoses from pump to filter, hoses from filter to return in pool. If I had PVC anywhere, I couldn’t brush inside that. I can’t...

How to use Saran Wrap for suction side air leak?

yes I am looking for the air leak. I have an above ground pool with only one skimmer and one return. Yes the vacuum hooks to an adapter that goes in the skimmer. when I run the pump without the vacuum, I don’t get any air. but from other threads that I have read in this forum, sometimes...

How to use Saran Wrap for suction side air leak?

Thanks! I haven’t lost prime yet, I have an above ground pool and the pump sits almost in the ground, so I think it’ll always have some water going into it. But I worry that it’s not good for it to be passing all of that air through it. I also worry if I wanted to let it run all night, that it...

How to use Saran Wrap for suction side air leak?

When I use my auto vacuum, I get air in the pump, the longer it runs, the more gets in there. Once I remove the vacuum, the air works itself out of the pump and goes back to just being water. I have already searched this problem on here and found suggestions to use shaving cream or Saran Wrap...

Fighting mustard algae I think. Have a few questions.

I hadn’t mentioned this earlier but when swimming under water Saturday I noticed the water wasn’t as clear as it looked from outside the pool, but this is my first full summer with a sand pump so I wasn’t 100% sure how normal that was. I was starting to contemplate adding D.E. to the filter or...

Fighting mustard algae I think. Have a few questions.

Thank you so much for the thorough reply. I guess I need to reread the SLAM process and the mustard algae process (just in case). I thought I had remembered everything from doing it last year, but I didn’t remember the part about regular SLAM until passing OCLT and then bringing up to higher...

Fighting mustard algae I think. Have a few questions.

Thank you! Mine always collects in the same areas too but I thought maybe the algae is being circulated to the same spots. I did an overnight test last night and I lost almost 2 ppm. But I also noticed bugs swimming around in the skimmer this morning so it’s possible that something other than...

Fighting mustard algae I think. Have a few questions.

So on May 28th I started battling what I believe is algae and possibly mustard algae. it was dark sand looking clumps that disappear temporarily when brushed and then come back. Now it’s a much lighter color. Here it is June 2nd and it’s still here although much lighter in color. So either I’m...

    Reading test results

I used my TF-100 test kit today to test my TA after adding baking soda yesterday. When doing the test: after 6 drops, it was still green after 7 drops, it was completely pink after 8 drops, it was red. so is my TA 70 or 80? I feel like green to pink is the biggest change so maybe it’s 70 but...

How do you maintain FC daily?

Thanks everybody, I had passed the overnight test a few weeks ago but recently let the FC get a little low and didn’t realize the CYA had been rising from my floating tablet that I was putting in for half a day and then taking out for half a day. So now algae is trying to grow again. I’m gonna...

How do you maintain FC daily?

Thanks for all of the replies, everybody is so helpful. Sounds like once daily should be enough and I’ll get use to it as I do it. That leads to another question, what if I wake up and it’s gonna be storming all day? I guess find a break when there’s no lightening and run out there real quick? I...

How do you maintain FC daily?

I feel like I’ve read most of the pool school and it just says to test daily and add bleach as needed. Using just bleach once a day however means there’s time for the sunlight to burn off the chlorine, even with proper CYA levels unless I’m missing something. So here are my questions 1) How...

Green water, cc 0.5 or less

Thanks! The first night I forgot and left the dispenser in and still lost a couple ppm of FC. The 2nd night (last night) I remembered to take it out at least half an hour before my reading, maybe an hour before, I’m not sure. This morning my OCLT showed that I lost 1 ppm and had a CC of 0.5. I...

Green water, cc 0.5 or less

Thanks for the quick reply, I need to buy some bleach before I start that again. I hate getting up before the sun comes up to do that test but I guess I gotta do it. Can I leave the floating tablet dispenser in while SLAMing? I bought the tablets before finding this site.
