New Waterfall In the Front Yard...

Good news...the waterfall is finished and it looks beautiful... Bad news...the contractor failed to seal the block wall under the tile, and water is seeping through to the back. So the tile all needs to be pulled off, the block wall needs to be sealed, and then have replacement tile applied.

New Waterfall In the Front Yard...

A lot of very good points here. My biggest concerns are around two things: 1) Scale buildup due to our crappy hard water in otherwise lovely San Diego 2) Any chemical damage to the Italian tile, resulting in my wife killing me and rendering me unable to participate in any further TFP...

New Waterfall In the Front Yard...

Ok so the waterfall basin poured concrete that was sealed with epoxy yesterday morning, and today is being topcoated with the two-step DuraSeal primer + pool surface paint. The wall surface is porcelain tile. Every pond and waterfall manufacturer appears to be anti-chlorine, probably in a bid to...

New Waterfall In the Front Yard...

Good morning - We decided to add another aquatic element to our backyard setup by installing a waterfall feature in the front, near the front door. The basin capacity is roughly 75 gallons with an 18" emitter installed about five feet above. I'll be using an Aspen pump placed at the bottom of...

    Outdoor Speaker System

I have a Sherwood Dual Zone receiver that is located hidden away in the corner kitchen cabinet, way in the bottom and at the back. This receiver is hard-wired through the side of the house to eight speakers placed around my patio and pool area, arranged in a L-R-L-R configuration for natural...

What does your pool paradise look like?

Right? No matter what I do, every photo - day or night - looks like it's been photoshopped and color-adjusted like crazy.

What does your pool paradise look like?

Just installed new landscaping, hardscape and a fountain, added retaining walls around the pool perimeter, and 108 individual LED lighting fixtures connected to seven transformers set up in four zones.

    Sound Muffling A Pool Pump

The spa jets seem to generate very little sound, especially relative to the pump.

    Sound Muffling A Pool Pump

It is fairly quiet at low to medium speeds (say, below about 2500). When I turn it up to higher speeds in order to push the spa jets, that's when it gets louder. Since we're typically using our spa in the evenings, I'm especially interested in finding a way to muffle the pump noise.

    Sound Muffling A Pool Pump

Good afternoon everyone - I was wondering if anyone had any experiences doing an acoustic treatment surrounding a pool pump in an effort to make the system run more quietly. Would love thoughts from anyone who has tried this. Thanks! Lonnybass

    phosphates

Interesting, I had an almost identical conversation with my neighbor about the need to manage phosphates when I moved into my house about a year ago. I took his advice and started using PhosFree right away. It clogged up my DE filter within a few hours and I had to run the pump at much higher...

    phosphates

If I had to guess - a problem with high chlorine consumption is either because you have algae, or because your CYA is low. Not because of phosphates at all.

    Appreciate it everyone. Thank you!

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

It took about nine or ten days, but the steady aeration and maintaining a 7.0 pH target with muriatic acid has finally gotten everything back in line. Today's test results: FC 5 pH 7.2 TA 80 CH...

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

Yep - lowering back down to maintain the 7.0 target. I checked last night and pH was still where it was supposed to be. This morning's test showed a rise to 7.4 so I dropped it back down again with muriatic acid. TA is at 130 as of this morning's test, down from 170 on Sunday.

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

Looks like the 7.0 pH target and added aeration have already started making a difference. I just retested and TA is already down to 140 from the 170 result I got last night. I'll just keep holding the 7.0 target through the week to see how the numbers balance out.

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

I can indeed run it without the heater, but since it all runs off one pump I'd need to switch the direction of the spa valve to push the pool return through the spa lines. I'll give this a shot right now to try and get some more movement than just the waterfall spillover.

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

I just dropped my pH down to about 6.8/7.0 and ordered a few fountain return jets in order to help the waterfall with aeration.

I'll need to test that later today. It didn't seem to be an issue last season.

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

The current pump settings have the waterfall running at full strength in the morning for about an hour, and again for two hours in the early evening. During the day while the solar system is activated, it's a steady trickle, enough to gently break up the surface. Should I crank it up for a...

Bringing down TA / balancing pH

Greetings all- I am continuing to rebalance my pool after doing a citric acid treatment last month. Generally speaking, things are balanced out and in good shape. However, I'm struggling to bring down my TA level to where it needs to be. Here are my latest test results: Free chlorine...

DE filter turned green after three weeks since my last cleaning!

Three weeks ago, I broke down my DE filter and did a full cleaning of the grids. In the last 10 days or so, I noticed that my pump performance had deteriorated significantly. When I opened it up today, I was greeted with the horror show below. I'm kind of shocked - especially considering that...
