    I could use your help!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to cast a vote. I greatly appreciate it. :goodjob: Still in the lead too, though there's still a week left in the voting.

I'm sure all the ski areas numbers must be way down. Loon stops making snow next week and the rest might take a drastic hit with the warmer weather coming up.

    I could use your help!

Hey everyone, Entirely unrelated to pools, but I could use your assistance nonetheless. A camera product company is running a contest to name their newest product, and my entry is one the Top Twelve being voted on to win. As of right now, I'm ahead but the competition is stiff, so I could use...

    Foam!

I'm not sure about Tmaragni, but I do just that, and I soak the set not in use in bleach overnight. Doesn't seem to affect the foam much at all.

    Foam!

I've been having the same issue. I wish people would shower more often before using the spa, but hardly anyone does. No matter how many signs are posted. I've just been doing partial drains twice a week, keeping up on my filter cleaning, and living with it. I know the water's clean and that's...

    CH test problems

I'd still try adding a couple drops of Sodium Thiosulfate (the clear drops used to start a TA test) to the sample before testing. When testing CH, my samples are always clear until I started doing this, then I can test as normal. I've also had success with this when the reagents were a year old...

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

Thanks for your effort James. I think I'm going to try draining the upper tier (roughly 850 gallons) every other day, after the spa has closed for the night, in addition to more frequent shocking. If needed I'll also do a full drain refill weekly/bi-weekly. There's no way my higher-ups are...

    CH test problems

I don't know if it's the same problem, but I have to add two drops of sodium thiosulfate when I test our bromine pool and spa to see the pink color when testing CH. You could try this and see if it helps.

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

Every day I have to add I'd say about 50-75 gallons of fresh water anyway and that also has no effect and it also puts the temp down to about 90, so I think doing so with 200-400 gallons daily would leave in a constant state on "not hot enough", which gets me yelled at.

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

What are the advantages of using Sodium Hypochlorite for shocking? Doesn't it raise pH (which I'm constantly battling to keep lower), whereas MPS does not? Don't it and bleach accomplish the same thing. I'm trying not to "skimp", but completely draining a 3,200 gal hot tub every week is a time...

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

The bromine level is maintained via a standard tablet feeder and it gets shocked with MPS once or twice a week. The bromine level is usually around 5-6ppm (upper end of the limit), and I was hoping that keeping it constantly higher would eliminate the need for shocking as often and help keep the...

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

Thanks again for your reply Scott. The 20 users a day figure is a really high estimate, in fact I'd say it only sees 20 users on Friday and Saturdays, and that's on a busy weekend. I can try to shock it more often and see if that helps. Here's another question. To shock this hot tub, I use MPS...

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

Thanks for the replies guys. The state regs make no mention of borates, so I assume there's nothing to say I can't use them. Maybe that would be worth a shot. The spa is indeed plaster, that along with the supposed reduction in foaming is why I thought a higher CH might help. To combat the...

    New(er) Hot Tub Trouble

Hello everybody, Our resort had a new indoor hot tub built a few months ago and I've been having a couple issues with it. Ours is the only multi-tier hot tub in the whole state, and now I know why, this thing is a pain! The pH is constantly on the rise due to the aeration of the three...

    FAS-DPD testing with bromine

Do you use MPS shock in this pool? MPS will give a false high CC reading. I had to buy the special Taylor FAS-DPD kit because of this.

    Question about outdoor pool.

What about using a peristaltic pump or two and doing away with the ORP? Once you got the system dialed in you could use CYA and probably save the company some $$$ on chlorine usage.

Droid App - Wrote my Own

Pretty cool app, thanks for putting it out there! A few suggestions: -Bromine! I use bromine in the indoor pools at our resort and would like to see that added to the chlorination methods, etc. -Another vote for multiple pools/spas. I'm practically forced to use other apps until this is...

    Can't find sand

I'm not sure where you'll find sand (we get ours at the closest pool store), but I recommend staying away from the Quikrete pool sand. When we couldn't find any locally we checked at the local Aubuchon hardware and they carried this particular brand. I'm not sure what the size of it was, but it...

    Adjusting pH and CH?

Cool, that's makes my life a little easier. The pH usually runs a little low due to the Trichlor, and the calcium is on the lower end too so that seems like it shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the info!

    Adjusting pH and CH?

Copied from: http://www.thepoolprofessor.com/hints.html (which is definitely not the source I got it from.) "It is recommended that you do not adjust the water’s alkalinity and hardness within 24 hours of each other. If sodium bicarbonate is used to adjust the total alkalinity you should wait...

    Adjusting pH and CH?

I know you shouldn't adjust your CH and Alkalinity (with sodium bicarbonate) within 24 hours of each other, or so I've read. Is the same applicable to using soda ash to adjust pH and raising calcium? I adjusted the pH this morning using sodium carbonate, but would like to raise the CH after...

    Best dry chemical scoops

Hello everyone, This might be a silly question but I could use some help. I was wondering what everyone thought were the best dry chemical scoops to use for pool chems, and where you get them from? I have one that has a generalized graduation of weights on one side, which isn't entirely...

Repair starite - still chugging (new ?s added on post #12)

Re: Repair starite (impeller stuck) or replace w/used whispe I have to work on the 2 HP Dura-Glas versions of these pumps all the time at work, and they're pretty similar. More than likely the bearings are shot and should be replaced, not too hard of a fix, and at least worth a shot. Since you...

    Correct lube on push/pull o-rings

Greetings everyone! Another quick question (I hope) for all of you. Our outdoor pool and spa filters have push/pull valves on them and I'd like to replace then lube the o-rings (another task neglected by previous operator) and it says in the manual: "CAUTION! Never use lubricants other than...
