    Sunlight effect on chlorine

Thank you. Just curious, since it is best (as I understand it, but maybe I don't) to chlorinate during the night so that the strongest chlorination remains effective for the longest period, so I figured this might be a thing to consider. Searching the net, I haven't seen anyone else who knows...

    Sunlight effect on chlorine

Does indirect sunlight affect pool chlorine, or direct sunlight only? We have a large tree line to the west and direct sunlight is gone relatively early. Is it ok to add my nightly chlorine dose, or is it better to wait until closer to evening? Thanks!

    Testing my chlorine percentage

My syringe is a 3ml size, marked in .1ml graduations. I used 1 graduation, a pretty tiny amount. I will try the test again, I think I'm following the instructions correctly... P.s., this window very annoyingly changes my cursor into "text replacement as you type" mode whenever I need to go...

    Testing my chlorine percentage

Msch99, yes curious. Not sure I trust my pool store as they store their liquid chlorine outside. mknauss, I'm not great at math or chemistry - are the instructions in the link incorrect? It says to mix 1 liter of distilled water with .1ml of liquid chlorine...

    Testing my chlorine percentage

I ran across the instructions for doing this test: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/chlorine-date-code-decoder-easy-way-to-measure-strength.83147/page-2 I used distilled water, measured out 1000ml using a graduated cylinder, then added .1ml of my chlorine using an old insulin syringe...

    2019 Bleach Prices

We've been getting ours from a local pool supply store (Smith's Pools). The sell in 2-1/2 gal yellow jugs. $7.48 after sales tax, which is $3/gal. The jugs say 10%. I'm planning to test. These jugs don't have a date on them, so I think they buy in bulk and fill the jugs themselves. I've seen...

    Need pump filter lid SP1500D2

So I'm price shopping and see similar part numbers, not sure about compatibility. The number stamped on mine is SP-1500-D2. Anyone know if this is the same as SPX1500D2? I found one that says SP1500D2 in the description, but the image of packaging says SPX1500D2... Thanks

"Better" vinyl tubing for pool cover drain?

I've used a weighted pool cover drain for periodically draining my above ground pool cover, and about every year I have to get new vinyl tubing because the old line gets so stiff. Is there a better tubing that will last and remain flexible? I looked at latex, but I'm afraid that's too soft.

    Testing alkalinity - question

Using the TFT100, after adding 5 drops of R-008 to turn the sample to green, I'm not sure when to stop adding drops of R-009 to turn sample back to red. At 4 drops, the sample begins to turn red, but it is not until 6 drops that it is more definitely red. So would my alkalinity be 40 or 60...

Any suggestions while waiting for R0871 replenishment?

So starting DAY 5 (yes, caps intentional.) of SLAM. Now out of R0871 drops. Having to re-order in the middle (well HOPEFULLY at the END) of SLAMing. Suggestions requested as to best way to carry on without risking having to do-over (after spending over $100 on liquid chlorine) since we lost...

Brown stain at water level during SLAM

Starting day 3 of SLAM. Noticing a brown stain on the vinyl at the water level. The stain is only about 1/3 of the way around the pool. The stain is concentrated just past the return outlet. It does not brush off. What would be causing this?

    SLAM questions

I am circulating and filtering. Aqua-bug hose in skimmer with a vac head attached to bottom. Working just fine. SLAM instructions state "not more than once per hour," which is what I'm doing. Suggesting I increase the frequency?

    SLAM questions

Update. I have decided in an effort to not go broke buying liquid chlorine (nearly $4/gal, for 10% at Walmart), to lower my pool to 16" (4400 gallons). Already used about 15 gallons. Adding a little over 1qt/ hour to maintain 24ppm. I don't want to completely empty the pool because the liner...

    SLAM questions

Ok, thanks for clarifying about goal being to keep the FC as close to shock level as possible. The SLAM instructions don't actually say this (or I missed it), so I wasn't sure just what to do after I adjusted up to this FC level. Sig updated!

    SLAM questions

Ok, well one secret that I'm now revealing is that I have a wife at home. Didn't really want to have to involve her, but I have, so she is now a willing participant. Although she's a little "shocked" at how much liquid chlorine we're having to buy for the SLAM. Glad I got 8 gallons last...

    SLAM questions

My first post (a week or so ago) was regarding the use of PhosFree (pool store said my phosphates were extremely high). As suggested by the forum, I returned it, and instead purchased a TFT100 test kit, which I just received yesterday. This was regarding my (continuing) problem of not being...

Pool store sold me PhosFree...wondering if I should use it...

Ok, I ordered the TF100. I also returned the phosfree. The clerk says I will not be able to get my chlorine level up until I lower the phosphate level. I told him I'm trying a different approach. I did ask him to test another sample: ph: 6.3 FC/CC/TC: 0/0/0 TA: 40 CYA (stabilizer) - he said...

Pool store sold me PhosFree...wondering if I should use it...

Yes - have seen Pool School and started reading.. Though earlier in the week I was reading stuff from a Pool School from a different site (swim university) on "how to shock a swimming pool". Obvious to me (now) not the same "school". No mention of liquid chlorine bleach. So I've been in some...

Pool store sold me PhosFree...wondering if I should use it...

We had pool wall stains, and decided to use ascorbic acid "Stain Free." The readings on the test strip were: Ch:0 Ph: 6.8-ish TA: 8-ish CYA: 30-50 -ish I don't know any of the other levels. (I've browsed enough recently on the forum to guess you will scoff at test strips, but that's what I...
