I wanted to share some After pictures now that the spa is clean. Only thing left is to rebuild the Polaris. I just got it’s rebuild kit and new hoses yesterday!

    Chlorine and stabilizer question

My life saver has been the Pool Math app. It's been much easier for me to use compared to the one on my computer. You just plug in your results and the app will tell you exactly how much and what to add. It's amazing to me that all you need is some 10% bleach!

Almost in normal ranges! I’m so happy with my CYA right now. I don’t think I need to add anything and can start doing liquid chlorine for upkeep. Still brushing some silty stuff to the filter it out but I think once I get a new Polaris or fix the old one I won’t have to brush daily. The deep...

The pool app suggested a little over a gallon of liquid conditioner which was cheaper than the powder. I added that, brushed the walls and bottom, skimmed the top, and washed out the filter basket. It’s looking awesome! This weekend we clean the small hot tub section which will be easy. Then it...

Should I go ahead and add some CYA or wait until tomorrow? I’m also wondering if I should add more chlorine tonight since some of this will burn off during the day.

So I went to Walmart last night and they didn’t have CYA so I bought a box of trichlor bags (shock) hoping it would raise my FC and my CYA. Well it sure raised my FC but my CYA is still non existent.

The Pool Math on here gives me different amounts than the app. I can do 6 bags of trichlor for $15 at Walmart and that will pump my amounts way up but it shouldn't take my CYA over the limit. I'll keep thinking about it. I have about a 2 hour window between when I get off work and when I have...

So would it be better to use bags of shock right now until levels go up and then move to TFP?

Okay that makes more sense! According my fancy Pool Math app I need 3 jugs of chlorine and 8lbs of stabilizer. Is there an easier way to add it then the sock method? Can I add it to the skimmers? Going to vacuum and add DE to the filter tonight!

Test results 6/5 8:30am FC=3ppm CC=8ppm pH=7.6 CYA=0 The test kit was overwhelming at first because there is so much stuff in it but then I realized the rows are organized by test you are doing. I think I did the FC correct, it was hard to get the water to turn pink. I had to add 3 scoops of...

I went ahead and put 4 gallons of 10% chlorine in while it was filling. It’s almost done. I’ll be posting my 1st test results when I get home from work tomorrow (or 1st thing in the morning)!

Still filling but what a difference! The deep end still has some stuff on the bottom but we can vacuum to waste as soon as the fill is done. Still a 100 times better than my first picture in this thread. (I wanted to Shop Vac the deep end but we couldn’t find one person willing to let us put...

Update: We are thinking it might be a pressure issue. After putting the filter back together and then trying again we had more pressure and it started working. We are now refilling. Probably will need to vacuum the deep end a couple times to get all of the residual out but we are in a far better...

So we hit a snag. Got everything clean and now the main drain is not working. Either we have our valves wrong or something has blocked it up. Hopefully we can figure it out and resume refilling. EDIT: Valves are turned correct but it’s not drawing water into the pump.

I think a paint job is something we may do in the off season. I would love to do it but time is not on my side with work and the start of summer.

I am so tired. We are almost done but I ran out of steam. The pool is about 75% sprayed down, we still need to drain and clean out the hot tub but that's not as hard as the pool. We only had 2 fall/slides into the deep end. That was gross but nothing a shower didn't cure. I wish the past owner...

It’s a rental from Home Depot: Submersible Pump 2" Rental - The Home Depot We are now down to a foot in the deep end. I didn’t want to drain more than that to be safe. Tomorrow starts the actual muck removal. I don’t know where all the mud came from. There is actual dirt in there. Luckily we...

3pm and we are down to the hopper. My oldest has started pushing all the leaves into a pile so the water can drain down to the deep end. The two large frogs are in denial and hanging out in the deep end. The only snafu we have hit is the spicket outside by the pool is leaking into the house when...

It’s going a lot faster than I thought it would. This is after the pump going 2 hours. I was able to finally disconnect the old Polaris. We decided to purchase a new one. As you can see the white paint is missing in places and you can see the old blue paint underneath. I’m okay with paint...

Pool reclamation has begun! We put the pump in a 5 gallon bucket before dropping it in the deep end. The frogs have all taken residence in the skimmers watching the water go down. We ran the hose out into the street by our driveway. It smells to high heaven but hopefully no one notices to much...

I’m starting to get worried about the process. Since I’m unable to get the leaves out pre draining I’m worried the pump will just get clogged constantly. What is the best way to drain when you have debris? Should I start the pump in the shallow end and move it as I clean out leaves?

We will be starting the process of draining, cleaning and refilling this weekend. I'm renting a pump from home depot. We will either pump into our grass in the backyard or into the driveway since the water is chemical free right now. I received my test kit from Amazon but sisn't want to waste...

We aren't 100% sure when the pool was built. The investor we bought it from said it was there when he bought the house in a foreclosure sale. He had it re tiled and painted in 2009. When it's clean you can see places that the white paint is peeling and showing a previous blue paint underneath...

I canceled the plans I had for today to start working on the pool. After watching some inspirational pool cleaning videos I started using my pool rake to pull the leaves out. After an hour I realized...we have to a drain and refill. The weight of the leaves is bending the pool and threatening to...

Money is the most important factor to me. I would rather spend time and gain knowledge on how to take care of my pool then to give someone else $12,000 and still have no idea what I'm doing. The pump works great, we just replaced the motor before letting it sit. The issue I had with his quote is...

Well, I've now done enough research on draining pools to scare the heck out of me...add in the many pictures on Google I looked at when I searched "floating pool". I'm wondering if I can do a partial drain, basically keep about 2 feet in the deep end so I can still get the muck out but not...
