    Arm&Hammer CYA

I was in Wally World tonight and the only CYA they had was A&H 'Saltwater Stabilizer'. Is this the same as 'Freshwater' CYA ? The label says 100.0% CYA. Thanks ..

I should also thank Duraleigh (Dave at TFTestKits) for their fast delivery and reasonable prices. You guys rock. (Even when I'm tired and order the wrong stuff. :hammer: )

    Green to Clean

Ha, I just read a post below, I did not know there was a product called 'Green to Clean'. I did NOT use it to clear my pool. 12% Bleach, 3 lbs of CYA, about 15 backwashes and elbow grease did the trick.

    Green to Clean

I thought the board might like to see another success story. I have been a member since 07. Using this site I never had issues until this year when my cover sank. I had a real mess but the information here, 3 weeks of POP and $80 in chemicals - I'm swimming now. Thank you. The pics are from...

12% chlorine prices around the country

The only place I have been able to find it in Richmond Va is Pressure Works (powerwashing store). $13 for a 5 gallon carboy. The guy at the counter says about 30% of their chlorine sales are to pool owners.

Used flex pipe when building inground pool

Hi Tom - I'm in central VA and I used flex pipe on my inground pool. I was not aware of a termite problem until I read your post. Termites are not a big issue here but I will be paying attention now. The pool company I bought the kit from uses flex pipe for just about all their...

DIY In~Ground Vinyl Lined Pool Kits

Thanks for the info, I love this site. I was all over this issue last night when I got home. The first thing I did was go look at my conduit. It's 1-1/4", not 3/4", see old pic below. (I used 3/4 recently for an outlet and I guess it was stuck in my fading brain). So I'm good there. But...

DIY In~Ground Vinyl Lined Pool Kits

Thanks for that info mtbarr64. Being somewhat anal, I had to go check this out. I ran the electic in this manner for three reasons: - I had to use conduit because the run goes under a driveway. - The electrician I hired said it was fine and would pass inspection. - Indoor cable and conduit...

DIY In~Ground Vinyl Lined Pool Kits

Hi Casey, here's my thread .. brian-s-pool-construction-t2851.html FWIW - I'm a programmer by trade, I'm pretty good with cars, but this was my first construction project. I read everything I could find about it here. The things I contracted out were: - Digging the hole. There will be ALOT...

Classic pool store moment - Leslies doesn't like BBB

I didn't know either until I started reading TFP. It's just a large reusable container you buy once and then you can have it filled over and over again. 8)

Classic pool store moment - Leslies doesn't like BBB

I hope I'm in the correct forum for this ... I went to Leslies to get a wall whale at lunch. (Saw they were on sale in another thread). This was my first trip so I asked Jonathan if they sold liquid chlorine. Jon and a buddy descended on me like wolves. It was the same conversation I've...

Something I learned here a couple of weeks ago: If the builder puts rebar in the concrete make sure it is connected to the pool bonding wire(s). 8)

    Pool Light Help

I'm curious - what kind of light is it ? Your description of the problem sounds like a ballast overheating and resetting, which means there is a short in the wiring, ballast, or bulb. I would call an electrician if you don't see an obvious problem when you pull it out. I would also disconnect...

Need advice on Vermiculite Bottom (Pictures)

Welcome Nod ! I finished a similar pool in my backyard this spring with a vermiculite/cement bottom. It's almost impossible to get it smooth like a concrete floor. As Duraleigh so eloquently put it - 'You think you have it perfect, and when the lights come on it looks like the surface of the...

    Backyard Pools and Young Children

One thing I haven't seen mentioned ... Don't put a main drain in your pool unless you really need one due to location or some other reason. If you have to have one, make sure you can turn it off and that it's always off when your kids are out there. Good luck with your pool !! :-D

    Something is under the liner

I have just discovered that there is something under the liner in the corner of the hopper. (The cleaner is hanging up on it.) I sent my son down to check it out. He says it is about 3" long and 2.5" high and has an edge on one side.  It just about has to be something the...

    Poolvergnuegen The PoolCleaner ?

I have a 4-wheel suction side and I like it. IMHO with an 18x36 hopper you are going to want a 4-wheel. You may want to look for a couple of extra hose sections also. Someone with a pressure side poolcleaner will chime in soon. Good Luck and welcome ! P.S. - I was also able to go 'bbb'...

    Basic Question

Thanks for the kind words. Yep, I think that was October. We are swimming, but the pool is still kinda cold. It's a standard 20x40 hopper with 3.5' shallow end and 8' deep end.

    brian's pool construction

Got concrete this weekend. I feel like I have a real pool now. Last night after installing ladder and handrail. Sorry the pic is dark. The fence should be in by the end of next week. Then we get to see the inspector again.

Tried to add suction line for cleaner - I'm not a plumber

My 'ThePoolCleaner' works well but doesn't reach the shallow end. Putting the skimmer at the deep end was poor planning on my part. Anyway, my brother-in-law plumber was over yesterday, and after a couple of Mike's Lemonades we decided we would add a suction line that I could move down the...

    Bonding/electrical questions

Yep, that's what I used too, with #6 wire because Lowe's didn't have #8 bare. I originally attached them to the aluminum walls with zinc-plated nuts and bolts, but the inspector had me replace them with brass. I also sprayed them all with some undercoat I had in the garage.

    Stuff floating on top

Does anyone know what this stuff floating on top is ? The picture actually highlights the stuff a little too much, it is actually kind of translucent. It has been appearing every day for a week. The skimmer gets it all in about 3 hours. Not causing a problem that I can see, just curious...

    Concrete slope question

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I asked him specifically on the phone yesterday ' 1/4" per foot, or 1/4" total ? ' and he said 1/4 inch from pool to edge. I am going to shoot for 1.5 inches on the 8' sections and 1" on the 5' sections. I agree, I don't think it's going to be...
