Is it okay to put chlorine tablet in skimmer basket?

I don't put any chemicals in my skimmer. Otherwise the levels that go through your equipment will be too concentrated. When I had a pool guy he was doing that regularly. I don't know if it had anything to do with it but nearly all of my equipment failed during the time he was "taking care" of my...

How much salt is typical a non-SWG pool?

Thanks. I agree. If the CSI is maintained, I don't see the problem. Fortunately, the pool math app accounts for salt levels.

How much salt is typical a non-SWG pool?

This person says that SWGs are not good for concrete pools: What do you guys think? It looks like he installs fiberglass pools so maybe he's not the most objective on this topic.

How much salt is typical a non-SWG pool?

Yes, I take those articles with a grain of salt (no pun intended). Everyone with a SWG has raved about them. I am thinking about converting my pool to SWG. Perhaps next season.

How much salt is typical a non-SWG pool?

Hah. A pool guy did tell me that last year when the TDS showed 2,500 ppm on the water test. I asked him why it mattered and he said that chemicals don't mix well with high TDS/salt. I further inquired why it didn't matter when SWG pools have even higher TDS than that. Boy, his face turned red...

How much salt is typical a non-SWG pool?

I have a non-SWG pool and have been using liquid chlorine for about 3 years now. I measured the salt levels today and it's at 2,000 ppm. I understand that all forms of chlorine convert to salt but liquid chlorine adds double the salt. Just of curiosity, what are the typical salt levels for...

Plaster peeling off in spa drain - safe to ignore?

Than Thanks. Yes, that was my only concern. It's easy to tell if there's water loss in the spa since levels will have dropped overnight. I keep an eye on that. I think I'll let this ride until I replaster in few years.

Plaster peeling off in spa drain - safe to ignore?

I wish I had taken pictures because my spa drains don't like others I've seen. When you pop off the drain cover, there's a cavity, about 1' x 1' which is a plastered surface. Inside the cavity then you have the pipe that goes to the pump. The plaster in these two drain cavities has been flaking...

CYA:FC relationship but 10ppm chlorine unsafe for swimming?

4ppm is the maximum allowed in drinking water. And that is at 0 CYA. I'm more worried about chlorine in my drinking water than I am about chlorine levels in my pool at the appropriate FC/CYA levels. CYA ~50-60 is the sweet spot for me.

    Ohhhhh...

Do you have an autofill? Unless you had a massive leak where all of your water leaked out and was replaced by the autofill I don't know how you could lose 40ppm of CYA in a month. What kit are you using to test?

None of the equipment is running - what to check?

Yes, I eventually figured out it was the breakers at the equipment.

None of the equipment is running - what to check?

I have a Jandy Aqualink that is fairly new (2 yrs old). It's on but it not turning on any of the equipment (pumps, heater, water feature, etc) in either service mode or auto. We did have a power outage yesterday, so it could be related. What should I try? I've turned off the power at the breaker...

DE Leaking into pool - what to do next?

Replacing the grids and manifold solved the DE leak for me.

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

Update: after 5 hours, the spa level has not dropped, not even a millimeter. So it was the light, and the leak is now stopped! What a relief. Thanks guys for your help!

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

I drained the spa to take a closer look at the light. The broken piece of lens was stuck in the thread. I removed it. I was able to fit in a 1.5" threaded return plug. It was a perfect fit and is flush against the wall. I'm hoping this will be fine. I have now filled up the spa. I will see if...

Ok, so there were no fibers in the pipe. So perhaps it was just an extra pipe.

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

Assuming the conduit was cut, anyone know what to do next? I don't care about the lights. Do I just stick a new lens in it?

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

Yes, it is an old pic from about a year ago. It's hard to explain the pipe location. Here's a drawing. The pool is surrounded by a concrete deck. Point A is where the pipe came out from under the deck from the direction of the spa. Point B was where it supposedly terminated. Point B is the...

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

I wonder if this is related. I had some channel drains put in last year and the contractor dug up this pipe (attached pics) which he said was likely just some extra pipe the pool builder put in but didn't need. It made sense to me at the time since the pipe was empty and had no wire or water...

So, if the lens thread is broken like that, it would leak? I found a lens on Amazon. I hope this will resolve the leak.

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

I did. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to get it to work for me. I'll try it again as the water drains lower. The spa water level is currently half an inch above the return jets. We'll see what happens in the next 24 hours and whether the spa continues to drain past the returns.

Please help me diagnose this extremely frustrating leak

I jumped in the spa (jeez, it's freezing). I thought I would take a look at the light enclosure and found that it just slipped right off. It is cracked but interestingly, I could not find the broken piece. The pool lights do not work anyway, so I'm wondering if there's a way to plug them all...
