Would you repair or bail out of a 20 year old Spa?

We bought a Sundance Optima new in 2003. It's been great, very reliable we've only put a few heaters, flo switches and covers on it but now it's time for another new cover ($500-$600) and I'm not sure how more life to expect from it at this age. It works perfectly right now, but how long do...

    R-0009 Regent Question

I got a new test kit after 10 years with the old one and wanted to test some of my larger left over regents. The large bottle or R-0009 doesn't have an expiration like the others do so I compared it to my new one. The new kit 0009 shows my TA at 100 and the older 009 has it at 60...a huge...

    2 Good Closing Tips!!

My husband and I figured out a couple things this year that made closing a lot smoother and kept tempers from flaring. They may be nothing new but I haven't seen them mentioned. The hardest part for us is putting the cover on, so this time we got 2 full pieces of PVC (1.5 and 2.0 inch) and...

Ideas For Closing a Gunite/Tile Pool Without Lowering Water Level?

I have a 4 year old 16k concrete pool with a tile waterline we've opened and closed every year with no problems. I was trying to think of a way to leave the water level up this time by putting some kind of expansion protection in the pool just like the foam water tubes we put in the skimmers...

How do you get these lights out??

We have some bad Savi Melody lights we have to remove. There are (were) 2 small notches in the 1.5" lens that were supposed to take a little key that came with the lights, but they are sooo tight they wont budge at all. We are thinking about trying a spanner wrench and if that won't work...

    Is this Poop?

I get these 1/4" long dark things the diameter of pencil lead on my deck that blow in the water and make a dime size orange spot on the bottom of the pool. They seem to come from under the edge of a maple tree. I believe it to be some kind of insect dropping but I'm not sure. Some days I get...

    Constantly chasing PH and TA

I have the same issue as this topic. I do use a waterfall at times, but am constantly chasing PH and TA. My TA drifts down to 40 every week, I stopped raising it as much per another threads recommendation. I used to push it to 90/100, now I just keep it 40-60, but I still fight the PH always at...

    Constant Low TA, High PH

The whole BBB system works very well for me, but it seems like I constanly fight low TA and high PH. The lowest I've dared let TA sink is 50, 8 lbs of baking soda puts me back to 100 for a few weeks. The PH always wants to be high, I add acid about 2 times a week to control it. Is this normal...

    Winter cleaner storage

Is it best to leave a Polairis cleaner in the water under the cover all winter so the seals/rubber parts don't dry out in the house?

Will the plaster dry and cracK????

We are about to close the pool and need to drain it below the returns, but that leaves the whole first step of the swim platform out of the water and dry, which we've read here never to do. We have tile on the water line so do we leave it up and risk cracking the tile, or drain some and worry...

    Trying to get closure...

I think this got lost in another post so i started a new thread. We left our pool open the first year but want to close it this winter for the first time. I've read everything I can but still have a few questions, 1) I'm getting a new Loop Loc mesh in a few weeks, but we get a lot of rain/snow...

    3 Inch Tablets

I'm using BBB now but would like to use the tabs for when we are away. Does anyone make just chlorine tabs that aren't di or tri chlore? I don't want to raise my CYA anymore but the tabs can be verrry handy!

    Mosquito Traps

I read the thread on mist systems, but was wondering if anyone else has had experience with the traps. I have a friend who uses the Dragonfly http://www.mosquitosolutions.com/ and swears buy it. Home Depot sells the "Mega Catch" which could be returned if ineffective. Maybe a fogger too, someone...

    Plaster problems, 3 months old!!!

We just noticed a lot of the spots in the deep end of our new gunite/plaster pool are actually areas of plaster peeling off. 20-30 spots so far, and many plaster flakes caught in the cleaner bag. How common is this and how is it usually resolved by pb's. They have been a good company to wok with...

    Freeze Question

My pb talked us into leaving the pool open through the winter and it's been going well so far. But last night we wondered what we would do if we lost electricity for the freeze protection that keep the pumps on if it gets very cold...like tonight when it drops to 9 degrees!! We'll prolly get set...

    CSI?

Happy New Year!! Thanks to this board I've got a good understanding of the chemistry now, but the CSI thing on the calculator has me confused. It seems most recommendations for CH are 250-350, my 2 mo old plaster is at 280. When I plug my readings in, it says I need to raise my CH to 450 to get...

    TA and Freezing cold!

Hi everyone, my new plaster pool just turned 2 months old and I have a couple of questions if I may. I'm in Oklahoma and it gets fairly cold, 19 deg tonight, :-( What temp do most of you set your freeze protection for? The lowest mine goes is 33, is that usually safe, or should I keep it at...

    Deck-o-drain replacement cap

Has anyone replaced the top cap of their plastic deck o drain? They make a redwood color repalcement top that would look sooo much better than the white we have now, but you have to cut the top out and glue the new cap in I think.
