Is it time to replace this heater?

Thank you, you’ve confirmed suspicions! It has been working hard, non-stop, and up until the flow stitch failed was adequately heating the water. Imagine my surprise today when I opened it up and saw this. Thinking about replacing it with the 156 model, which is slightly larger, but basically...

Is it time to replace this heater?

This is a Raypack 106 (just over 4 years old). Rollout switch opened a few times in the past year (think I see why). Then, yesterday the flow switch failed. When I opened the back of the heater to confirm I saw the entire back was rusted out. I decided to remove the heat exchanger to clean...

    Skimmer leaking in colder temps?

We are in the process of replacing a broken Pentair GloBrite, which required us to open a small section of the concrete pool deck and remove and replace the light niche. Our skimmer is right next to and slightly above the light, so we can see a small portion of the skimmer behind the pool since...

Will an LED pool light still show continuity if it failed?

Thank you, I think I'll give this one a try and hopefully it will last longer.

Will an LED pool light still show continuity if it failed?

I had the light on a timer, but no other kind of automation system.

Will an LED pool light still show continuity if it failed?

Ah, I didn’t see it before, but I definitely see the rust stain now! Thank you, looks like it’s bad.

Will an LED pool light still show continuity if it failed?

Will an LED pool light show continuity if it failed? Specifically the Pentair GloBrite (which I know if prone to water infiltration)? Verified the transformer is working correctly, but light just stopped working one evening. It was on one second and off the next!

Should I cover a running pool pump during a snow storm?

Yep, my biggest concern isn't freezing water. The pump runs 24/7 and the water is in the 70s-80s. I'm just concerned about blowing and drifting snow making its way into the back of the motor where the fan is. I didn't know if there was an issue if snow got in there. My guess is it would melt? If...

Should I cover a running pool pump during a snow storm?

We run our small outdoor pool year round in Cleveland. Last year, when heavy snow was in the forecast, I would cover the pump with a tarp. Is that necessary? The water stays heated to around 75-80 all winter long, but I'm concerned about snow getting in the back of the motor housing. I was...

Heater making a whistling sound (kettling?), even at high pump RPM

I think so. I removed the filter and spent a good amount of time cleaning it out. After that, the whistling stopped. It seems like the pressure in the filter system, which is quite large for the size pool we have, raises quickly when the filter starts getting dirty and then the sound starts. It...

How long after shocking the pool should combined chlorine be gone?

CYA is around 95. Salt pool. Our FC has always been fine, but after heavy rains we struggled to keep it high enough. Water was clear, but even with the SWG cranked up way higher than usual I figured it might be time to shock. Combined chlorine was around 0.5 when I tested it. The TFP calculator...

Heater making a whistling sound (kettling?), even at high pump RPM

We have a Rheem pool heater and a small in ground pool. Normally, if the pump is running too slow (but not slow enough to shut off the heater) it will start making a whistling sound. I've always assumed this was kettling and if I run the pump at a higher RPM it goes away. So, I run the pump at...

White residue around top of gas pool heater.

After examining things further the white residue is only the outside of the heater. If I look inside the the top of the heater I can see the back side of the seam where the white residue has accumulated and there’s nothing there. See photo attached. Is it possible this is just some salt/residue...

White residue around top of gas pool heater.

I was initially concerned about condensation as well, but the water temp has never dropped below 72 and is usually in the mid 80s. The pool is basically a very large hot tub, so it’s small enough that the water temp is being maintained with short run times. We also have an insulated blanket so...

White residue around top of gas pool heater.

Do you think it’s anything to worry about? I doubt it’s a leak because it’s the only place I’m seeing it and no pool water flows there. Wondering if moisture is getting trapped in the exhaust and causing some corrosion? It’s been cold, we run it 4 hours/day to keep water temps in the 70-80 range.

White residue around top of gas pool heater.

Today I noticed some white residue around the top edge of our pool heater, which looks almost like efflorescence. Any ideas what this might be? Pool water temp is consistently in the mid 70 or higher. Heater is new (about 5 months old). The water is balanced as well.

Floating, insulated under-cover needed for the winter!

We are planning on keeping our small outdoor pool open until Jan 1in Cleveland. We purchased is a Thermaltech ULTRA insulated cover from a company called Prairie Tubs. The cover seems well made and if fairly heavy, but not so heavy that it's difficult to take off. We just fold it up like a...

Running pool equipment year round in winter / keeping small in ground pool open all year in Ohio

Done. The cover we purchased is a Thermaltech ULTRA from Prairie Tubs. Their website is garbage, but the cover seems well made. It’s heavy. Cost was $430. Link to Prairie Tubs Website
