CYA dropped massively at end of SLAM - Halp!

Hi MissFancyPants. I got mine in January. Check CYA Testing - Not doing it right One of the guys who works at clearchoicelabs posted in there as well because they are having the issues with the new batch.

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Hey Brett I personally say good on you for reaching out about the issue. This is the sort of thing that puts your company higher in my books than many others out there who would just sweep it under the rug until you can't avoid it anymore.

CYA dropped massively at end of SLAM - Halp!

Hi guys. A little late sorry but if I can pipe in? I had the bad reagent from Clearchoicelabs. CYA standard showed nothing for me. I contacted clearchoicelabs and they got back to me on the same day, tested their own store of reagent and told me theirs had gone bad. I don't know how long ago you...

    CSI with no Salt test

I have been doing a fair bit of reading in the forum's and pool school and one thing that doesn't seem to come up massively in the forum is CSI. Yes there is mention but most results don't have it. I'm just wondering how important this is? Pool school says that anything too high is detrimental...

    Where should I go now?

Thanks for the help. I have read the lower TA in pool school and was aerating the water yesterday to bring it back up from 7. I stopped at 7.2 just so the pH increase takes longer. TA was at 200 when pool was filled. I was intending to drop the TA down to 90 by the aeration trick so yesterday I...

    Where should I go now?

Hey guys, I have attached a picture of current results from tests. I'm just wondering if I need to work on anything now or if I should try to let the pool settle out and find it's spot? Water always seems to creep up in pH. It will get to 7.8, which is where my kit tops out in a couple of...

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Update on what happened: I contacted clearchoicelabs telling them that there was no clouding in the mixture. They apologised replying to me at 8:15pm that same night and said they will send out another couple of reagents and a new standard today. Great result. Again can't fault clearchoicelabs

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Yes. I have a mixing tube that has lines on it for pool water and then detection agent. Use the mixture to slowly fill up the viewing tube until a test tube symbol disappears. Everything else from them has been great. Only took 1 day to get to me which is pretty impressive here in Australia...

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Sorry. So when I am filling the water from the mixing tube it only gets to the 40ppm line but there is another line above that for 30ppm. There is no way for me to tell if the CYA is at 30ppm because I don't have enough water in the mixing tube to check this

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Thanks for the info mknauss. I had read the pool school article about it as well as the instructions from the kit. Just tested again with the 50ppm standard and after looking at the photo from Taylor test kit mine is completely clear. There is no clouding to it at all. I'm guessing my reagent...

CYA Testing - Not doing it right

Hi all, I just tried doing the first CYA test on my pool. I have added enough CYA to bring it to 30ppm from Pool Math. Testing didn't show anything when I tried. Only goes down to 30. I did sort of expect this because there is a lot of splash over from swimming and we have had a fair bit of...

    How Often to Test

No no. Not too long I didn't even think about what else the dry stuff would be adding up the pool. May not be too much of an issue in my case because it's vinyl and liquid chlorine but I don't want to have to replace the water. It's too hard here to do. Liquid acid from now on. Just be more...

    How Often to Test

Thanks for all the help everyone. I still think I will keep the FC on the high end Needsajet. When everyone uses the pool it goes down low and I don't want to risk it if avoidable by just putting a bit more chlorine in each day. I am really glad I got the better kit. It stops the stress of not...

    How Often to Test

Second test now. Sun still not directly on the pool. We are in a valley so even though we have light here the sun is not over the hill. FC 8.5

    How Often to Test

Needed to give chlorine time to get in the pool and I am currently trying to get the kids to sleep. I will do first test after that Edit: I know it's late. 9pm here but hopefully it will still work FC 9.5

    How Often to Test

I like it. That's a great philosophy to have. New test kit came today. Super impressed with Clearchoicelabs. Australian post now says to give up to 7 days for mail. This came in 1. Ordered Sunday. Shipped Monday. Arrived today. FC 5.5 CC 0.5 or 2 (turned clear then turned back to pink after...

    How Often to Test

Thanks for the help everyone. I was under the impression the CC smell was from anything the chlorine is attacking so it is good to know that isn't correct. Don't need to stress just because that smell is there. Yes an indicator but could be from the swimmers. I will keep FC up as much as...

    How Often to Test

Sorry guys. I was at work. Tested again and FC down to 2. Pushed it back up to 10 now. It seems weird. There is no CC smell from the pool now. Is the heat and Sun just breaking it down and making it less noticeable? People have been swimming in it today as well. Clearchoicelabs test kit has...

    How Often to Test

Second test from OCLT. Still over 5 FC but I can't tell by how much. There does seem to be that "chlorine" smell coming off of the pool now but only faintly. I'll do what you suggested for now Needsajet and raise FC to 8 every night, hopefully that will hold it at bay until I get the test kit...

    How Often to Test

Ok. I just did first test for OCLT FC at 5??? That's as high as my test kit goes. I guess the only way I'm going to know if this works with my current kit is if it drops below 5 tonight. On a brighter note, I ordered the clearchoicelabs test kit today. The chlorine is from the local pool store...

    How Often to Test

Hi Needsajet, I didn't reply to yours before. I don't have a smell in the pool either. We just got out and I couldn't smell anything coming off of the water while I was in there. As for the pool. Yes. Everything you said is correct. Filter and size.

    How Often to Test

Thanks again. I just got back inside from jumping to 10. I highly doubt I have caught this soon enough from what you are saying. I have attached screenshot of the logs from my PoolMath app. This has been consistently going down that low. I also had a look at the pool debris and there is a lot...

    How Often to Test

Hi Texas Splash, Thanks for the quick reply. I have been using the PoolMath app on my phone. This shows 6 as the upper "recommended" limit for 30ppm CYA so that was just what I was bringing it up to. Being that there are a lot of people using the pool is and FC of 10 going to still be safe for...

    How Often to Test

Hi guys, At the moment I only have a 4 in 1 test kit. I am getting the clearchoicelabs kits soon but haven't been able to order it yet. We are in the process of building a house and Christmas kind of destroyed our accounts. I am testing pH, FC daily at present. I was just wondering once I get...

    New Pool Owner - Brisbane

Hi Susii, I didn't see this until now. Sorry. I have been looking more around the maintenance side of the forum. I was hoping you could share a couple of pics of the PVC setup you have. I am hoping to do something like that with mine but I'm not sure how the fittings would work. All of the...

    I need some clarification

So I just tested FC in the pool this morning after adding the CYA yesterday. Man that stuff makes a massive difference. Normally by the morning my FC is pretty well gone after adding enough to bring it up to 4. Now it is still sitting at 2. I love you CYA

    I need some clarification

Thanks Heaps for the advice YippeeSkippy. I can stop freaking out now. I am still waiting to get a better testing kit so I haven't been able to test CC to see if there are any problems in the water. I haven't smelt that CC smell in the pool so it did come as a bit of a shock when I felt this in...

    I need some clarification

I just went to add CYA to my Intex 24' above ground pool (I know, signature needed) My dilemma is that I don't have a skimmer box on this pool so I decided I would dissolve the powder into a bucket and spread across pool. Well turns out CYA doesn't like to dissolve all that well. After pouring...

New Pool Owner Near Brisbane Australia

I don't think it's perfect. I think that because he is only testing it every now and then he is overcompensating so that when he comes back the next time it isn't stuffed but it's my dad's pool. My dad won't do it himself and I live over 2hrs away so I can't help out. But I can do better with mine

New Pool Owner Near Brisbane Australia

Mknauss Sorry for not replying earlier, Christmas and all. Dad doesn't look after the pool himself. He has a local pool guy come around and do it. I may just be over cautious thinking the guy isn't do a great job. The water looks nice and clear when there is direct sunlight on it but once it...
