    Upcoming zero alkalinity acid wash

Yes. No drain, just MA. The PB just refers to it as an "acid wash".

    Upcoming zero alkalinity acid wash

I'll definitely make sure I document exactly how they perform the acid wash, what instructions they give me, and I'll report back. Heck, I may just record the whole fiasco like I did when they initially opened my pool and showed me how everything worked.

    Upcoming zero alkalinity acid wash

That's pretty good advice. I was just trying to avoid having to clean up their mess afterwards. I guess the best thing to do is just let them do their thing, do what they tell me after, and let them be responsible for the outcome.

    Upcoming zero alkalinity acid wash

Preface: I know this isn't a preferred method to deal with bad plaster installation, but it's a precursor for me for ultimately demanding a chip-out and replaster. My pool was finished Oct 31, 2017. Within a week or two I noticed the plaster had white "splotchy" spots and uneven coloring. The...

Why am I constantly chasing my pH

Ok, that makes sense. Its not a rise in TA that's causing a rise in pH. It's a high TA that is allowing for a more unstable pH? So dropping my TA to 50 or 60 might mitigate some of the instability in pH? And I'll just have to counter the increase in TA when adding fill water, before it has a...

Why am I constantly chasing my pH

How is that so, if the pH of the fill water is 7.5? I'm not doubting you, I just don't understand the relationship. I'm a pool noob. I know MA lowers pH and TA. I know aerating will raise pH, but not TA. I had no idea raising TA would also raise pH.

Why am I constantly chasing my pH

Fill water TA is ~200. Tested pool TA a few days ago and its holding steady at 90.

Why am I constantly chasing my pH

For the first two months my pool was open, my pH was a constant 7.5. Ever since I added salt and started chlorinating with the SWG, I've been chasing my pH. Every 2-3 days, I find my pH at 7.8-8.0, and add muriatic acid to bring it back down to 7.4. In the beginning I thought it was due to...

    Footprints appearing in my plaster

Here are some pictures of what I'm dealing with. Like I said, most of it started appearing within the first month after filling. The footprint (and others) appeared over last weekend. Any chance the footprints could be from someone getting in the pool after applying lotion to their feet? I'm...

    Footprints appearing in my plaster

I test with the TF-100. I went to the pool store today to check for metals. They said none. The rest of their numbers were garbage.... I just started my SWG for the first time last Thursday and have not installed or intended to install the mineral cartridge.

    Footprints appearing in my plaster

FC: 6 CC: 0 pH: 7.8 - consistently around 7.5, but we got a lot of rain over the weekend TA: 80 CH: 350 CYA: 60 Salt: 3500 No metals Phosphates: 200 (not that it matters)

    Footprints appearing in my plaster

Our pool was finished Oct 31st last year. We went with an Onyx color Ansylbrite Quartz Finish. Over the 1st month I didn't like how the plaster was curing. It developed light grey/white streaks and splotches in a few different areas. Before the pool was closed, Nov 30th, the builder agreed I...

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

Alrighty. I need to up my TA 10ppm, so tomorrow I'll add some baking soda based on a 30,000gal volume and see what I end up with. One way or another, I'll narrow this down!

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

It's been about 32 hours since I added salt. The SWG is showing 3.5gpl and my test shows 3600ppm. That's where I want to be, but not where I expected to be as I started at 600ppm, added 640lbs of salt, and pool math said that'd put me at 2850ppm. Any chance it's still too early to do a reliable...

Adding salt for the first time

Yep, tested with the TF-100 Salt Test Kit using the R-0718 & R-0630 drops.

Adding salt for the first time

Here's how I calculated my pool volume. https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/164043-Tried-calculating-pool-volume-based-on-FC-change?p=1450020#post1450020

Adding salt for the first time

I started at 600ppm, tested with TF100. Poolmath said I needed 825lbs to get to 3500ppm. I only added 640lbs to start with. My pump is single speed and usually runs 13 hours/day. Obviously I'm running 24/7 until I'm done adding salt. Mineral cartridge never was or will be installed.

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

Done and done. Started at 600ppm. SWG has never been used and the startup mineral cartridge is still sitting in the pool box, on it's way to the garbage. Hadn't planned on installing it once I realized what it was for.

Adding salt for the first time

I added 640lbs of the 825lbs recommended by pool math. Should bring me up to 2850ppm if my volume estimate is accurate. Then I'll top off as needed. I dumped the 16 bags of solar salt into the shallow end. Brushed it around and let the Polaris 360 run without a bag on it, while I did a complete...

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

That's what I used as guide, but decided I'd rather muck with the FC instead of TA. Hopefully after adding salt today I'll have a better feel for where I'm at.

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

Re: Tried calculating polo volume based on FC change Thanks! That's what I was thinking. Using the salt addition to validate the first test. Can't wait to go to Lowe's and load up 800 lbs of salt! Grabbing a few here and there for the water softener is bad enough. LoL

Adding salt for the first time

Mine does turn off when the pump isn't running, but I need to run the pump while the salt is dissolving. Can I just leave it set on 00%?

Tried calculating pool volume based on FC change

I have a tumorous kidney shaped pool. According to my builder, the volume is "approximately 34,483". I've been operating off of 34,500. I'm about to add salt for the first time and want to make sure the volume I'm using in poolmath is accurate. I waited until dark and tested. FC: 4.5 CC: 0.0...

Adding salt for the first time

I've read to turn off the SWG before adding the salt and until the salt has had enough time to dissolve (~24hrs). The control panel for my SWG has always been on, but set to 00%. Can I just leave it like that, or do I actually need to find a way to turn it off?

    I got bugs!

So this mess started two nights ago and looked the worst yesterday morning. By the time I got home yesterday around 8:30pm, the only thing floating in the pool was pollen. There was a lot of those bugs stuck in the skimmer, but that was it. Crisis averted!

    I got bugs!

I work from 12pm - 10pm. They weren't there before I left for work yesterday, but were in full force when I got home. This morning was even worse. Pool lights weren't on at all yesterday or last night.

    I got bugs!

Did some searching with varied results. Didn't come across anything with pictures so I'm not sure if these are the same bugs I read about in previous threads. Last night when I got home from work I thought my pool was covered in a layer of pollen, but quickly realized it was all moving. The...

Trichloro tabs, daily FC loss, and pool math

I definitely understand what you're saying, and once I'm fully dependent on the SWG, I'll be fully on-board with TFPC. But for now I need to maintain my FC and increase my CYA, and I still have 10 lbs of tabs that, while not optimal, will serve both purposes. Not to mention I paid good money...

Trichloro tabs, daily FC loss, and pool math

I've got 2 weeks until I do my initial salt indoc and start using the SWG. In the meantime I'm using Trichloro tabs. Only because I got "pool stored", I need to use them up, and I need to bring my CYA up anyways. My question is about my daily FC loss, the slow release of chlorine from the tabs...
