    Friend needs help

That much? She had 100 to start last year and then dosed this year. I've carried a CYA of 35, dropping to 30 this season and I'm only 10 miles away from her. In fact, I only use about 10ppm or so over a season....ever, if that, historically.

    Friend needs help

Backstory - Got a friend who inherited a pool last summer. I got her using the troublefree pool method and she bought the TF-100 test kit and downloaded the app. I've been using troublefree method since 2008. When she "opened" her pool last year, we tested CYA of 100 (not uncommon as previous...

    2016 bleach prices

Walmart in New Hartford, NY has "Pool Strength Chlorine" at $2.50 for 10% !!! I believe it's a full gallon as well (don't have bottle convenient to me at the moment). That bests their house bleach at 121oz of 8.25% for $2.75 I think (might even be higher). First time running it, so I hope it's...

    Public pools

I've been a "pool snob" ever since the first year of using the "Trouble Free" method. I've seen pools (at a camping resort) where you wouldn't have seen a body at the bottom of the deep end. I almost wanted to call the Maryland Dept. of Health (or whatever they call it down there. Soooooo many...

Questions about opening a pool and using a mesh cover

Probably would have been best to not put in CYA until you do a SLAM method. That way you do not have to fight getting above a CYA level. Next would be to get your pH straight and keep SLAMming the pool until the end results are met. This is my two cents, I'll let one of the experts chime in as...

1st time pool owner Help please

The only way to go is using the Trouble Free Method, Pool Calculator, and a good test kit as recommended here. Be sure to read, and re-read, Pool School. Nothing like testing your water, putting in your values to the Pool Calculator, and knowing exactly how much of any chemical you will need to...

And thanks (even though I didn't need to use it) for backdating the sale to Feb. 1st!! THAT is customer service!! I just finished posting a thanks in the "coffee shop" forum and then came across this thread.

A BIG shout out to tftestkits.net

"Other" uses for Trichlor Tabs now that i've switched?

What I do is let my CYA drift down after the spring rains and then when I go on vacation in July I use the "pucks" to chlorinate and increase CYA during the week. Last two seasons CYA starts at 50, drifts to 40, and 3 pucks during the week vacation and back to 50 I go!

First year of BBB and TFP

Next year will probably be even cheaper. You're lucky you found this forum in your second year. Sadly, I was in the midst of my 3 or 4th year and a pink algae bloom!

First time pool owner need help!

Totally agree with jbizzle...close the pool and SLAM it in spring. In the meantime you will read through pool school 2, 3, maybe 4 times and read some forum posts to see how others get their pools crystal clear, AND keep them that way (that's the point of the BBB Method). Your pool will contract...

    Adding bleach daily?

Sounds completely normal to me. Full sun exposure and use (swimmers) will eat up the FC's. I "predose" my pool by a couple of ppm FC's if I know we are having a pool party. Yeah, I am that paranoid, and a snob...LOL

    Moles...

I have heard of the "juicy fruit" trick also. Can't confirm effectiveness. But I can tell you that the last couple of years I have been aggressive with grub control and this past spring ...NO mole hills. A bonus is the limited vole activity because they don't have a freeway (old mole run)...

Hard Plumbing of AGP Done (w/ pics and parts list)

Makes sense...thank you. Just because teflon tape has worked for me doesn't mean problems down the road. I would like this setup to last quite awhile. EDIT - Uh oh ...the Oatey's Great White says, "LUBRICATES and seals all threaded joints." But I am figuring the "lubrication" with this is...

BBB has turned my wife into a "pool snob" (true story)

And if they're reading right now, welcome to the forum ...from here on out you will have crystal clear water with moderate initial effort and then waning to only slight effort on your part!! Read, read, read, "Pool School" ....and then read it again. It won't take long, or massive amounts of...

BBB has turned my wife into a "pool snob" (true story)

Seriously thinking of doing this next year, or at least report them, when I see the same swamp I've seen the last two years now!!! I can only imagine how many people have been sickened by this pool! The pool at our beachfront condo complex in the same resort town is always clear, may not have...

BBB has turned my wife into a "pool snob" (true story)

Laying on our pool floats one day talking about how a neighbor's son contracted swimmers ear. Wife - "We're picky about swimming in other people's pools nowadays, aren''t we?" Me - "Well dear, up on the troublefreepool forum they call it being a "pool snob"." Wife - "Then I guess we fit the...

    Any difference in bleach?

Wish I saw this before last night. WM was out of GV and I had to spend a whole extra $0.50 per bottle for Chlorox !!!! Ugggghhhh !!! LOL Well, I'll keep that in mind next run ... thanks !!

    Any difference in bleach?

I switched from Aldi's Brand (Tundra) to WalMart Brand (Great Value) because the GV stuff seemed to hold the FC better even though both list 6%. But I have no scientific proof to that statement.... just my two cents.

Here's an Update to my setup ... I hooked it all up this year (first time using it) and NOT ONE leak (knock on wood)!!! It is real quiet also, can't hear any water rushing through the pips and the flow seems real good at the return!! I'm mean, real good!! So I don't think I have any restrictions...
