I was able to unscrew the union on the filter side, use the fastener than came with the SP14953 I ordered and all is back in order. Good news! No cutting required.

I've got a CMP union (Unions (1.5" Socket x MIP Flush) - CMP) Equivalent to the Hayward SP14953S and my union split after about 8 years. Wondering if there is an easy fix , maybe via a split union or some other method for this or am I looking a a replumb? Thanks! - Nik
