While you're at it order the 50ppm CYA standard. That way you have a direct comparison as to how the dot should look. Helped me out for sure.

It was the UnionGap place. I find the experience in that store is very dependent on which employee you work with.

I took a water sample into the pool store to get tested for metals. I had them do a full work up to see how they compared. I had just added a gallon of bleach after FC fell to 8.5ppm (a bit overkill), and I had also just tested PH which was still 7.6. FC after that gallon of bleach was 12ppm...

Looks like I'm good on CH. The Jandy manual states CH needs to be between 200-400ppm.

Regarding the CH I thought I was okay since I have a vinyl pool. Didn't think about the heater. I'll check the paperwork that came with it. Good to know I don't have to mess with TA or PH for now. thanks for the help!

As of this morning FC has finally drifted to below 10. So I ran some tests mostly to get a more accurate PH reading. TA seems very high. Should I wait until PH drifts up higher and then add some MA to bring it down to 7.3 or so? FC 9.5 CC <.5 TA 180 PH 7.6 CH 250 CYA 80

14 days ago just before starting the SLAM it was 7.2. Now 60 gallons of bleach later...

11 hours later at 5pm and FC is only down to 19ppm. CC is zero. That's only 2.5ppm used with the pool sitting all day uncovered in the mid 90's hot sun. It might be a couple days before I can accurately test PH again, lol. I also tested CYA and it's down to 80ppm. I have the 50ppm CYA reference...

Passed the OCLT! Last night at 11pm FC was 21.5ppm. This morning at 615am it was still 21.5. CC was zero. Woot!

Awesome, thx! Good to know. So I just tested my FC/CC. It's 6pm so it's been 12 hours since the last test. The pool has been sitting in direct UV and today got decently hot into the low 90s. FC dropped from 32ppm to 26.5ppm. I assume it's normal to see decent FC loss when you're that high...

So it is possible to test using 5ml sample? Less powder and 1 drop = 1 FC or is it some other formula?

Would it be possible to hook up the vacuum hose to the skimmer and keep the other end down in the water? I was actually thinking about this for my own use. I have a valve to shut off the skimmer and/or main drain, but I like to know all options.

25ml test would be brutal on reagent use at that FC level, lol. Three tests would probably kill a 2oz bottle. I was very careful when counting drops. But over the course of 60+ drops, as said, the disparity between them probably comes into play. I would have preferred an even smaller sample...

I guess I didn't read that section of pool school. Last backwash I did 5mins and then rinse 1min. Based on water level drop I figured about 600 gallons was pumped out.

I've been doing the CYA test using the tap water and multiply by two method. After the last backwash and refill I come up with 90ppm. I'm not in a situation where I can pump to waste 6000 gallons of water, so lowering my CYA will just have to happen over time with longer backwashes. I have...

I decided to keep the pool at SLAM level all day yesterday and do another OCLT overnight just to be sure. Tested at 10pm FC was 32.5. This morning at 6am FC was 29.5. Ugh. Brought it back up to 39ppm. I'll do another OCLT. Any reason why it might have regressed?

Okay, much better news this morning. Yesterday I kept FC levels up, swept the pool, did a 5 minute backwash of the filter, and topped up the water afterwards. Last night at 11pm FC was 38ppm. This morning at 6:30am FC is at 37.5ppm. CC has been below .5ppm for several days now. Sometimes zero...
