    Pump basket almost never fills

That's a good way of explaining it. I think it's a bandaid...but I'm not picking up air and the water level isn't dropping. I can inch by until the lines are replaced (when I feel like doing more digging).

    Pump basket almost never fills

So I tried something new. I put in a valve on the returns. I was messing with the valve to increase the pressure at the filter (which normally sits below 5psi) I closed up the valve so that the pressure at the filter sat at 10-12psi. And for 2 days straight there do not seem to be any bubbles...

Ok I'll check that again. When I put it back in during opening It seemed to be hinged and moving up and down with water movement.

    Pump basket almost never fills

Funny thing. I looked this morning and my pump basket is full and no air bubbles are coming out of my returns. I didn't change anything. It did rain yesterday and the temps are lower. I wonder if that's affecting any leaks that I have.

Never thought of bypassing the filter on recirculate. I'll test to see if the pump can keep prime that way.

    Pump basket almost never fills

Another interesting note: If I try and fill the basket with my hose before priming it never completely fills past the bottom of the suction line. Water goes into the suction side and I hear the pipe starting to fill...but it just never seems to fill up all the way. Another problem? Indicative...

    Pump basket almost never fills

Ok thanks Jim. The water is exactly in the middle of the skimmer right now. I'll hold the weird door down. I have not tried the Drain King. I should. When I place my hand around the skimmer I do feel quite a bit of suction. Do you think it could still be clogged? (I just ordered the 1.5" drain...

    Pump basket almost never fills

Yeah I can't figure out the prime and loss either. No change in pump RPM. Yes I have some pool o-ring lubricant that I used. Cleaned off the flat surface with my fingers and made sure there was no dirt or sediment. The lid was very tight...i almost through that I had somehow mis-threaded it...

Ok thank you. I've got my shovel out and have started to dig.

The video showing the basket filling perfectly during startup at 3000 rpm and then suddenly drops pressure for some reason. I did not touch anything. The skimmer: The return jet:

No vortex in the skimmer. The water level is just about halfway but even when it was much higher, closer to the top of the skimmer when I first opened the pool it was still doing the same thing. I will double check the water levels to make sure it's not sucking air in. I don't think it is. I'll...

    Pump basket almost never fills

I've struggled with the plumbing for years. Literally years. I have a small in-ground pool. 12k gallons. I put in a 22ST filter with Zeosand a few years ago. It is oversized yes. And I just recently put in a Pentair Variable speed pump. 1.5HP. Oversized yes. I have 2 returns and a skimmer. No...

Redoing my lines and a new pump [pic included]

My pool area is still an embarrassment but I need to get it up and running due to COVID and kids being at home. The details: Octagonal in-ground pool. Roughly 12k gallons 4.5 feet deep in the center 3 feet deep at the edges 2 returns, 1 skimmer I have had a leak which I can't trace so I...

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

So I'm back at it. I haven't done anything. Too much going on at the house. I checked and my current pimp runs on 110 not 220. That means to get and install the 011018 would require running 10g wire and a new gfci breaker. That would cost $250 to $300 in parts. So 1200 in parts to save 500...

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

I forgot. I have to check to see if my current pump is operating at 115 or 230. If 115 I think i'll have to at least change the breaker to a 2 pole...and maybe new wiring etc. I'm gonna spend a lot of money to save some.

And it's on the list! I'm always so confused about how these pumps are different.

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

I just got off the phone with them. 1. It does not need to be purchased from one of their listed retailers 2. It does not need to be installed by a contractor 3. The funds are almost out and I should act quickly should I want this rebate :)

It's the State of New Hampshire. They provide a list of approved pumps. It may be hard to get one approved if it's not "on the list" even though technically it's the same pump. Pool Pumps

yep. That looks to hit the mark. Unfortunately it's not on the list of pumps that I can get a rebate for. :) It's never easy. The PL2516 is (but it doesn't have any sort of smart phone control)

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

Thanks for that info. I think I understand the logic. The variable speed can't simply be shut off and turned on to function. They need power all the time to set the speeds etc. If that's the case can most of them be programmed to a schedule so I can set it and forget it? For the 2 speed -...

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

Ok thanks for the input. I thought a 3HP pump would be overkill as well. However I read somewhere on here that someone used an oversized pump and just ran it at very low rpm 24 hours a day at a scant $20 per month cost. The switching power on/off may be just much simpler with a non-variable...

I can get a $500 rebate for buying a new pool pump. Wireless control? Choosing a pump?

I saw this rebate opportunity and I figured I'd look into pool pumps but I am struggling a bit. I have an existing 1HP Hayward Super Pump and it has 1.5" ports on it. My hopes: 1. Cut my energy bill by as much as possible. 2. Somehow wirelessly control it. So if I'm not home I can turn it...

Finding a pool cover for my odd pool

Ok thanks for that tip. I was wondering the same thing (going past the edges of the pad)

Finding a pool cover for my odd pool

I think I had a mesh cover that was laid over the pool and then concrete cinder blocks were placed around it to secure it to the pad. An inflatable bubble was put in the center of the pool to hold it up, and every year it deflated :)

Finding a pool cover for my odd pool

I'm open to either. Have been doing some research on both and there are pro's and con's. I'm in the Northeast so snow is definitely going to be sitting on top. I think I was going to go with mesh. My pool person is pretty honest. It wasn't a pool company, but rather a job she has done by...
